A beautiful little session from trombonist Curtis Fuller – and quite possibly the most obscure of all his Blue Note albums, all of which are pretty darn obscure! The Fuller heard here is in a softer, gentler mode than on some of his hardbop stormers for other labels – laying back with a sweet sense of lyricism and soulful soloing – and playing in an excellent group that includes Art Farmer on trumpet, Sonny Clark on piano, George Tucker on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. Farmer's horn proves to be a perfect counterpoint to Fuller's trombone – and they both bring out the best qualities in each other's work – Farmer, by forcing Fuller to find a bit more space between the notes; and Fuller, by getting Farmer to bite into the groove a bit more.
