Crosby, Stills, Nash, & YoungCrosby, Stills, Nash, & Young – Live At Fillmore East 1969 ... LP
Atlantic, 1969. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $31.99 34.99
Amazing early work from David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, and Neil Young – a live performance recorded just a month after their famous appearance on the stage at Woodstock – and one that captures the group as they're working through new ideas that would emerge more fully on their classic album Deja Vu! There's definitely a "liveness" to this set, and we mean that in the best way possible – very spontaneous, honest interplay between the members of the quartet, as they work through both their trio material and some of Young's tunes too – presenting the whole thing in two different modes, so that the first half is all acoustic, and the second brings some electricity to the mix. Essential listening for anyone who even remotely digs the group – and titles include "On The Way Home", "Our House", "Sea Of Madness", "Long Time Gone", "Wooden Ships", "Find The Cost Of Freedom", "Down By The River", "Helplessly Hoping", "Suite Judy Blue Eyes", "Blackbird", "Lady Of The Island", and "I've Loved Her So Long". ✨✧ Crosby Stills Nash & YoungDeja Vu ... LP
Atlantic, 1970. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of those records that was a classic from the moment it was first released – the legendary second effort from the trio of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash – with added bonus of Neil Young in the mix, which gives the whole thing a current of darkness that's completely mindblowing – especially in comparison to the harmonies of the quartet! These aren't the vocal patterns of the Sunshine Pop generation of a few years before – and CSNY find a way to capture all the darkness of the fading light of the 60s, while finding a special space for more thoughtful, sensitive sounds that never would have gotten a chance a few years before. Every track's a classic – and titles include "Carry On", "Our House", "Almost Cut My Hair", "Deja Vu", "Country Girl", "Everybody I Love You", "Woodstock", and "Teach Your Children". LP, Vinyl record album
(1841 Broadway RCA club pressing in the textured cover.)

✨✧ Crosby, Stills, Nash, & YoungCSNY 1974 (3CDs/DVD) ... CD
Warner/Rhino, 1974. Used 3CD & DVD ... Out Of Stock
Legendary live work from one of the greatest supergroups of all time – never-heard material from their famous concert tour of 1974! Neil Young is a key part of the lineup of Graham Nash, David Crosby, and Stephen Stills – and the quartet harmonize and trade leads beautifully on a set of tracks that bristle with even more intensity than their famous studio versions – almost with more of the sort of edge you'd find on Young's own recordings at the time. The guitar work is wonderful – very upfront and essential on most tracks, with different vibes than the studio versions – and titles include "Immigration Man", "Wooden Ships", "The Lee Shore", "Only Love Can Break Your Heart", "Suite Judy Blue Eyes", "Chicago", "Ohio", "Long Time Gone", and "Johnny's Garden". Massive package features 3CDs' worth of music – 40 tracks divided into three different sets – plus a bonus DVD with 8 more tracks, and a huge 188 page booklet! CD

✨✧ Joni MitchellClouds ... CD
Reprise, 1969. Used ... $3.99
Joni Mitchell's second album, and the one where she really seemed to find her voice – quickly moving past the more folk-styled music of her roots, into that special territory that was very much her own! The album has some incredibly deep songwriting for such a young artist – tunes that are unabashedly full of love, wonder, and worry – graced with acoustic guitar and those amazing vocals – exploding into sunshine and life with a power that still holds up strongly after all these years! Stephen Stills plays bass and guitar on the record, but Joni clearly doesn't need any superstar help at all – as she shines brilliantly on titles that include "Both Sides Now", "I Don't Know Where I Stand", "Chelsea Morning", "Tin Angel", "That Song About The Midway", "Songs To Aging Children Come", and "I Think I Understand". ✨✧ Buffalo SpringfieldRetrospective – The Best Of Buffalo Springfield ... CD
Atco, 1969. Used ... Out Of Stock
A seminal collection of work from Buffalo Springfield – a group with a short-lived existence on the LA scene, but an impact that shaped the sound of mainstream rock for many years to come! That effect is no surprise – given that the lineup features a young Neil Young, Stephen Stills, and Richie Furay – moving from folk influences into trippier, headier territory – and paving the way for both classic and country rock to come! Here at the start, things are nice and lean – well-penned tunes that pack a heck of a lot into a very short space – given key production help from Jack Nitzsche, Brian Stone, Jim Messina, and even Neil Young himself. Titles include "For What It's Worth", "Mr Soul", "Broken Arrow", "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Win", "Expecting To Fly", "Go & Say Goodbye", "On The Way Home", "Sit Down I Think I Love You", and "Kind Woman". ✨✧ Buffalo SpringfieldBuffalo Springfield Again ... LP
Atco, 1967. Very Good- ... Out Of Stock
A record that's way more than just "again" – that is, a recap of the first Buffalo Springfield classic – as the set not only has the group really exploding forward, but also the individual members taking these strong steps on their own that really point towards their big legacies to follow! Neil Young grabs us with darkness on the first tune, Richie Furay warms us with some country strains on the next, and Stephen Stills moves into a space that's very much his own on the next – yet throughout it all, the record has this sense of unity that really holds up over the years – giving us depth that makes the whole thing an amazing listen time and time again. There's some key help along the way – a bit of piano from Don Randi, electric piano from Jack Nitzsche, and even some recording help from Jim Messina – all furthering the warmth of the group's approach. Titles include "Mr Soul", "Sad Memory", "Hung Upside Down", "Good Time Boy", "Rock & Roll Woman", "Broken Arrow", "A Child's Claim To Fame", and "Expecting To Fly". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Buffalo SpringfieldLast Time Around ... LP
Atco, 1968. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
The cover image here gives you an idea of what's going on – with Neil Young looking away from the rest of the group – as the album's not just the last by Buffalo Springfield, it also really shows the key members striving for a solo voice of their own! The set was released after Buffalo Springfield had already broken up, and a number of the tracks within are near-solo projects handled by Neil Young, Richie Furay, and Stephen Stills – although there's also some of those great duets that really have the group spirit shining so strongly. Jim Messina produced, and really makes sense of the material together as a whole – on titles that include "It's So Hard To Wait", "Four Days Gone", "Carefree Country Day", "Special Care", "The Hour Of Not Quite Rain", "Questions", "I Am A Child", "On The Way Home", and "Kind Woman". Grapefruit (UK), Late 1960s/Early 1970s. New Copy 3CDs ... Out Of Stock
A really great package, and one that shows all the cool criss-crossings of styles that we happening up in the hills of LA at the end of the 60s! The artists here are all part of the famous Laurel Canyon scene – a place where late folk, new psych, country rock, and other modes criss-crossed in loose social networks, music studios, and clubs – creating an array of sounds here that really might catch you by surprise! You'll know most of the artists within, but the presentation of them together makes for a very cool compilation – especially as the 3CD set begins with lesser-known early work, then tracks shifts in sounds and styles – moving into later years when the artists and sounds had shifted down into the Hollywood scene. At another level, the whole thing also just makes for a great evolution of Cali rock and pop over a few short years – presented with detailed notes on the artists, songs, and scene – with a set list of 72 tracks that includes work by The Turtles, Rick Nelson, Love, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Gentle Soul, Clear Light, Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Stephen Stills, JD Souther, Judee Sill, Crazy Horse, Nilsson, Ned Doheny, Leon Russell, Howdy Moon, Jo Mama, The Leaves, Byrds, MFQ, Steve Noonan, Barry McGuire, Holy Mackerel, Ruthann Friedman, Smokey Roberds, Susan Carter, Loggins & Messina, Gram Parsons, and many others!
