✨✧ Sons Of AdamSaturday's Sons – The Complete Recordings 1964 to 1966 ... CD
High Moon, Mid 60s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A brilliant presentation of the lost legacy of this killer Cali group of the 60s – a quartet that features searing guitar from the young Randy Holden, before he moved onto greater fame in Blue Cheer – and a sneering style that's very much on the sharper edge of the Sunset Strip scene! Sons Of Adam only issued a few singles at the time, before members went on to join Blue Cheer, Love, and other groups – but as you'll hear on the collection, they've definitely got some amazing energy here – right on the cusp of that moment when west coast groups were trading in their striped button-down shirts for darker clothes and sunglasses – really starting to burn the fires that would roar later in the 60s! The package features all the singles by the group, plus outtakes, and a never-issued live set from 1966 – and even a few early singles by The Fender IV, who were an instrumental precursor of the group, with Holden on guitar. Titles include "Take My Hand", "Tomorrow's Gonna Be Another Day", "You're A Better Man Than I", "Mar Gaya", "Baby Show The World", "Feathered Fish", "Saturday's Son", "Go Away", "Evil Hearted You", "Mr Sun", "The Long Road", and "I Told You Once Before". VariousHappy In Hollywood – The Productions Of Gary Usher ... CD
Ace (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... $14.99 20.99
Killer California sounds from the 60s – all served up by studio wizard Gary Usher – a legendary talent who worked in the same generation as Brian Wilson and Phil Spector, but never got as much time in the spotlight! That was all OK with Gary, though – as he spent endless hours creating wonderfully groovy records – including some key cuts by big names, overlooked gems from the Sunshine generation, and a few that were completely cooked up in the studio by acts who never existed in the real world at all! The sound here is fantastic – really unified, and one of the richest tapestries of SoCal studio genius we've ever heard – all put together with detailed notes that finally tell the whole story behind Usher's work and so many of these tracks. 24 titles in all – with tracks that include "Same Girl" by The Neptunes, "My World Fell Down" by Sagittarius, "Go Go Getter" by Keith Green, "So You Say You Lost Your Baby" by Gene Clark, "School Is A Gas" by The Wheel Men", "Sunstroke" by Chad & Jeremy, "I Don't Wanna Say Goodnight" by The Forte Four, "Happy In Hollywood" by California, "It's A Happening Thing" by The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, "Codine" by Sean & The Brandywines, "You Ain't Going Nowhere" by The Byrds, "Just One More Chance" by The Hondells, "Baby What I Mean" by Spiral Starecase, and "Take My Hand" by Sons Of Adam. Shindig, 2022. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
That's the crazy Arthur Brown on the cover, and the issue's got a great look at his early career and really wonderful music! There's also a nice feature on prog giants Hatfield & The North – and more on Womble Mike Batt, garage giants Sons Of Adam, and the Japanese psych of Kikagaku Moyo – and more on Helen Love, Curation Records, Ty Segall, Paolo Nutini, and The Black Angels – as well as an especially cool feature on sweet pop duo records from the 60s and 70s! Bill WolferWolf (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Constellation/Octave (Japan), 1982. New Copy ... $13.99 14.99
A rare set of blue-eyed soul from the early 80s – recorded by Bill Wolfer, singer and keyboardist who'd worked heavily with Stevie Wonder in the late 70s, and also a bit with the Jacksons in the early 80s. Wolfer's one of the only white artists to record for the mega-hit Solar label in LA – and this album has a great sound that's somewhere between the work of other Solar artists, and the work that Stevie Wonder was doing at the end of the 70s. Titles include "Call Me", "So Shy", "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", "Nobody Knows", "Soaring", "Wake Up", "Pop Quiz", and "Camouflage". CD features lots of bonus tracks – including "Love Games", "9000 Problems", "Call Me (orig single)", "You Are One Sunny Day", "The Hard Way", "I Will Get To You", "Little Miss Lover", and "Adam & Eve".
