✨✧ L7Best Of The Slash Years (180 gram colored vinyl pressing) ... LP
Slash/Run Out Groove, 2019. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A pretty tight snapshot of much of the best from sludge punk/hard rock pioneers L7's Slash/Warner era! L7 reached a degree of fame in the mid 90s, but never really got the props they deserved for obvious and not-so-obvious reasons – and it's the not so obvious bits that make them so memorable after all these years. Few bands, male or female, paired the smarts, cynicism and penchant for sly satire of the then flourishing alternative rock scene with unpretentious, brawny, headbanger friendly hard rock like L7 did. Includes "Pretend We're Dead", "Mr Integrity", "Andres", "Bad Thing", "Off The Wagon", "Moonshine", Bitter Wine", "Freak Magnet" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Run Out Groove exclusive. Pressing quantity based on pre-release demand – extremely limited and individually numbered!)

✨✧ XLos Angeles ... LP
Slash/Fat Possum, 1980. New Copy (reissue)... $13.99 17.99
One of the greatest records to ever come out of the west coast punk scene at the end of the 70s and start of the 80s – incredibly well-penned and well-played – at a level that instantly leaves behind so many of its contemporaries! The themes of the tunes are fantastic – sung by Exene Cervenka and John Doe – as little tales of lust, greed, compromise, and decay – all set to the fantastic drums of DJ Bonebrake and the searing guitar of the great Billy Zoom! The quartet are amazing together – never missing a beat as they rip through classics that include "Your Phone's Off The Hook But You're Not", "Johnny Hit & Run Pauline", "Soul Kitchen", "Nausea", "Los Angeles", and "Sex & Dying In High Society". XWild Gift ... LP
Slash/Fat Possum, 1981. New Copy (reissue)... $13.99 17.99
A mindblowing album – and one that we'd never part with, ever! X may have sprung from the LA punk scene of the late 70s – but this second album from the group is one that pushes way past every one of their contemporaries – a set that's always urgent, never dated – and which is filled with well-written, well-penned songs that should all be in the pantheon of rock and roll! Every aspect of the group is perfect at this point – the amazing drums of DJ Bonebrake, the searing guitars of Billy Zoom, and the fantastic vocal interplay between John Doe and Exene – working here at a level that's way different than any male/female duo in rock, pop, or soul from previous decades – as they set fire to the brilliant words of tunes that include "The Once Over Twice", "We're Desperate", "Adult Books", "I'm Coming Over", "In This House That I Call Home", "White Girl", "Some Other Time", and "Year 1". There's not a single mis-step on this album – and we should know, as we've listened to it thousands of times over the years! LP, Vinyl record album

Charleston GrottoRaw Sewage ... CD
Everland (Austria), Late 70s. New Copy ... $14.99
Obscure late 70s material from Charleston Grotto – a long-running LA band who prefigured punk attitude with their work in the 60s, and who still sound pretty darn unique here even when the rest of the world was beginning to catch up! The music isn't exactly punk rock, but it's got a similar sense of f-you defiance – lyrics that are hardly going to get any radio play, and an all-attitude presentation that helps propel the group through some of their more offbeat moments – including some more complicated rhythms that almost have these guys hitting the wit of the world of Frank Zappa. Titles include "Back Biting Leeches", "Old Gene", "Sex Drive", "Screaming Cadavers", "Silver Lake", and "Slash My Wrists". CD

✨✧ VariousThird Noise Principle – Formative North American Electronica 1975 to 1984 (4CD set) ... CD
Cherry Red (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 4CD ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic entry in the Close To The Noise Floor series – one that looks at early American experiments with electronics – but from the DIY generation that was unlocking access to technology that had previously been in the hands of bigger label artists and the academic electronic scene! The work here is a great partner to UK changes in the punk years and beyond – and, no surprise, some of these artists gained greater fame overseas, where their sounds resonated strongly with music from Sheffield, Manchester, Berlin, and other cities on the continent. And if you think you can guess what's coming, then guess again – because there's so much material here, the 4CD set really goes into some deeper, darker corners – and also pulls together work from different areas of the underground that most folks wouldn't normally connect. So while there's familiar names from labels like Ralph or RRR, there's also a lot more surprises – amidst selections by Richard Bone, Data Bank A, Tone Set, Psyche, Patrick Cowley, Mental Anguish, Controlled Bleeding, Psyclones, Lon C Diehl, Suicide, Residents, Chrome, If Bwana, Terry Riley, Geoffrey Landers, Futurisk, Dark Day, K Leimer, Hunting Lodge, Boy Dirt Car, Smersh, Steve Roach, John Bender, Ministry, Move, Nash The Slash, Tuxedomoon, and many others. Comes with a great book-styled package – pages and pages of notes on the music, with lots of images and record covers too! CD

Fabio FrizziShark Rosso Nell'Oceano ... LP
Beat (Italy), 1984. New Copy (reissue)... $29.99
Long before the Sharknado phenomenon hit the small screen, this sweet Italian film came along to woo the world with its wonderfully cheesy representation of aquatic terror! The 1984 date will give you a good idea of what to expect on the screen – and the music by Fabio Frizzi very much follows suit – heavily electric, with lots of keyboard and guitar lines that are similar to his horror and slasher material of the time – but maybe given a slightly more redemptive vibe, to focus on some of the more heroic moments in the narrative! The whole thing's got a sound that's every bit as delightful as the image on the cover – and the LP features a total of 15 tracks from the film. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Aaron Lupton & Jeff SzpirglasBlood On Black Wax – Horror Soundtracks On Vinyl (hardcover) ... Book
1984, 2019. New Copy ... Just Sold Out!
A beautiful book on horror film soundtracks on vinyl – one that starts with the earliest days of scores for famous early Universal monster movies, then really takes off when it hits the glory days of the 70s and 80s soundtrack! The book nicely moves past the classic generation – and really digs deep into the new wave of sounds that were unleashed during the slasher years – with plenty on films that include Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th, and Nightmare On Elm Street – and a strong look at the rise of keyboards and rock elements in 80s horror soundtracks too. There's also special looks at John Carpenter, Fabio Frizzi, Harry Manfredini, Pino Donnagio, and other key composers – and the whole thing is plenty hefty, and very nicely done. Book

✨✧ Jon McCallumSurf Nazis Must Die ... LP
Strange Disc, 1987. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $29.99
The first-ever commercial release of the soundtrack to this great bit of 80s horror schlock – a film that would have been right at home in the drive-in scene of the 70s, but which was nearly lost a decade later! Jon McCallum's music is nice and spooky – lots of the cool keyboards and stiff rhythms that you'd hear in slasher films from a few years before – spun out here at a level that works almost as well as an album on its own – with slight repeating themes, and a sinister undercurrent that really holds things together. Titles include the more rockish theme "Nobody Goes Home" – plus "Once You've Caught The Wave", "Youth Of Tomorrow", "Visit To The Morgue", "Pushed To Far", "Mama Sends Her Love", and "The Last Wave" – plus a special 1986 Fangoria promo! ✨✧ Ugo Busoni/Gerardo IacoucciRullio/Violenza ... 7-inch
Four Flies (Italy), Mid 70s. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Tight funky drums kick of "Rullio" – a wicked bit of sound library funk that has these really evil keyboards moving up and down – echoing a slasher horror edge, but with a lot more funk in the mix overall! "Violenza" has more great drums too – a bit more romping than breaking, but still nice and heavy – and punctuated with this off-kilter piano that jumps all over the groove – peppering it nicely with a sinister sound! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Basement 51965 to 1980 (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Island/Pias (UK), 1980. Used ... Out Of Stock
UK West Indian ex-pats in vaguely sci-fi looking outfits team up with Martin Hannett for a blistering set of post punk guitar slashing that sadly seems to have become mostly a side bar in the history of the 80s UK scene – although sometime singer Don Letts did start Big Audio Dynamite later. None of the dubby effects of their singles and little of the reggae influence are at work here, but it's still worthy of more than a passing listen! 9 tracks in all, including "Riot", "No Ball Games", "Hard Work", "Immigration", "Last White Christmas", "Heavy Traffic", "Union Games", "Too Soon" and "Omega Man". ✨✧ VariousVault Of Horror – The Italian Connection 2 (180 gram pressing – with bonus CD & print) ... LP
Demon (UK), 1970s/Early 80s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
The vaults of horror here are open pretty darn wide – so much so that they run a span from the initial years of Italian giallo films, all the way through some of the more electric slasher and shock films of the 80s! As with the first film, the package goes way past the obvious – and instead does a great job of pulling together tracks that really show the full scope of Italian horror – from atonal orchestrations through more small group electronics – with plenty of bits of rock-influenced modes along the way! The set features 20 tracks in all, wrapped up in a wonderfully vivid cover – and titles include "You Are Not The Same" by Fabio Frizzi, "Il Paese Del Sesso Selvaggio" by Sergio Patucchi, "Ecologia Del Delitto" by Stelvio Cipriani, "Make Love On The Wing" by Nico Fidenco, "Savana" by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis, "Conquest" by Claudio Simonetti, "Valley" by Bill Wyman, "Sudden Death" by Carlo Maria Cordio, "Satanik Seq 7" by Roberto Pregadio, "La Lucertola" by Ennio Morricone, "John Dalton Street" by Guliano Sorgini, "Opera Theme" by Bill Wyman & Terry Taylor, "Lady Frankenstein Seq 1" by Alessandro Alessandroni, and "Arizona Mountain" by Francesco De Masi. ✨✧ BBC Radiophonic WorkshopSoundhouse ... LP
BBC (UK), 1983. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
Weird and wonderful sounds from one of the coolest spots in the universe – the legendary BBC Radiophonic Workshop, home to a mix of surprisingly groovy and experimental electronic music! This album was issued on the 25th anniversary of the sonic institution – and it features a strong mix of older analogue styles with some more 80s-oriented electronics – yet still with all the depth you'd expect from the Radiophonic Workshop during its classic years! These aren't tinny slasher keyboards, or electro pop programs – and instead, the music here is as thoughtful and compelling as the sounds created during the Delia Derbyshire generation – but are handled by artists who include Peter Howell, Paddy Kingsland, Dick Mills, Jonathan Gibbs, Elizabeth Parker, and Malcolm Clarke. Titles include "Mainstream", "Radiophonic Rock", "Computers In The Real World", "Rallyman", "Seascape", "Land & People", "Houdini's Magic Box", "Ghost In The Water", "Planet Earth", and "Catch The Wind". LP, Vinyl record album
(Recent 180 gram yellow vinyl pressing.)
