✨✧ KinksEverybody's In Showbiz (SACD pressing with bonus tracks) ... CD
RCA/Konk/Mobile Fidelity, 1972. Used ... Out Of Stock
An overlooked gem from The Kinks – a set that's got all the wit of their late 60s material, a bit of the rootsy currents of Muswell Hillbillies, and a lot more bite than the group would have in some of their next few albums to come! Ray Davies' pen is razor-sharp, as is his vocal approach – and the songs are maybe even more gritty than the group would have done a few years before – furthered by some of the instrumental currents that also bring in a few acoustic elements and some Americanized riffs, which are then also matched by an occasional twang in Ray's vocal presentation. Plus, the double-length set also features one album of studio material, and a second live album – almost as a "bonus" thrown in for good measure. Studio tracks include the hit "Celluloid Heroes", plus "Here Comes Yet Another Day", "Maximum Constipation", "Unreal Reality", "Hot Potatoes", "Motorway", and "Supersonic Rocket Ship" – and live cuts include "Skin & Bone", "Alcohol", "Banana Boat Song", "Lola", "Holiday", and "Mr Wonderful CD
(Out of print Hybrid Super Audio CD.)

Big LLifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous ... CD
Columbia, 1995. New Copy ... $4.99 8.99
The classic first solo album by Big L – with bedrock DITC production by Buckwild, Showbiz and Lord Finesse – perfectly framing the rhymes by Harlem's finest. Big L didn't leave a huge wealth of recordings before he was taking away from the world, but he started out strong, and this benchmark effort makes a pretty solid testament to his legacy. Alongside some of the period QB hip hop, this one is pretty close to the pinnacle of streetwise east coast 90s hip hop. 12 tracks in all: "Put It On", "MVP", "No Endz, No Skinz", "8 Iz Enuff", "All Black", "Danger Zone", "Street Struck", "Da Graveyard", "Lifestylez Ov Da Poor And Dangerous", "I Don't Understand It, "Fed Up Wit The Bullsh#t", and "Let 'Em Have It L". Diamond & The Psychotic NeuroticsStunts, Blunts, & Hip Hop ... LP
Mercury/Get On Down, 1992. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... Just Sold Out!
A 90s hip hop masterpiece from Diamond D – and like some of the rest of the best of the decade, a set that was slightly slept-on at the time, but which has gone to have massive impact over the decades – still sounding completely fresh in comparison to bigger hits of the time! Diamond D comes from the same DITC underground as Showbiz & AG, Big L, and Lord Finesse – and like those others, when he got his time in the spotlight, he really took off – with beats that had an influence on so much more to come – and a very collaborative spirit that opens the door for contributions from Fat Joe, Mark The 45 King, Brand Nubian, Lakim Shabazz, and some of his old partners in DITC. Titles include the classic "Best Kept Secret" – with its fantastic Kool & The Gang sample – plus "Sally Got A One Track Mind", "I'm Outta Here," "Check One Two", "Freestyle", "Stunts Blunts & Hip Hop", "Pass Dat S**t", "What You Seek", "Confused", "A Day In The Life", "Step To Me", and "Shut The *!*! Up". LP, Vinyl record album

Tommy Boy, 1995. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... $32.99 36.98
A stone classic from Lord Finesse – a key moment when the DITC underground got a chance to hit the mainstream – and really show the rest of the world why NYC was still the undisputed center of hip hop! Finesse is fantastic, both as a producer and lyricist – and that collaborative vibe of the crates crew is still very much in place here – opening the door to appearances from MC Lyte, Showbiz, Kid Capri, OC, Akinyele, and KRS-One – while also holding onto a solid sense of identity that's made this one a treasure for decades. Titles include "Time Ta Bounce", "Brainstorm/PSK (no gimmicks rmx)" with KRS-One and OC, "Gameplan", "Taking It Lyte" featuring MC Lyte, "Flip Da Style", "Showtime" featuring Showbiz, "Speak Ya Peace" with Diamond, AG and Marquee, "Food For Thought", "Hip 2 Da Game", "True & Livin", "O Lord" featuring OC, "Words From Da Ak" featuring Akinyele, and "No Gimmicks" featuring KRS-One. PlaceboPlacebo Live 1971 ... CD
We Release Jazz (Switzerland), 1971. New Copy ... $9.99
A never-issued live set by one of the coolest European funk bands of the 70s – the legendary Placebo – not the current group, but a vintage ensemble that features wicked work on Fender Rhodes from the mighty Marc Moulin! The 1971 date of the set places it before the combo's famous albums in the studio – and in addition to plenty of open, flowing keyboard lines from Moulin, there's also a more spiritual sound from the group as well – more jazz than funk, but never in a too-jamming way – as the whole thing retains that strong sense of space and timing that's always made Placebo so different than some of their contemporaries! There's great fluegelhorn from Richard Rousselet, soprano sax from Alex Scorier, bass clarinet from Johnny Dover, drums from Freddy Rottier, and massive basslines from Nick Kletchkovsky – which really keep things moving over the course of the album-length "Showbiz Suite" – a cool track with lots of great changes! Streetjazz (France), Late 70s/1996. Used ... Just Sold Out!
Second great volume of DJ Cam's series of rare soulful jazz tracks from around the world, featurings some great French stuff like "Pointe Des Chateaux" by Fabiano Orchestra, "Troupeau Blue" by Cortex, "Initiation" by Les Masques, plus other stuff from Sun Ra ("Rome At Twilight" – from one of his Horo records!), Nate Morgan ("Mrafu"), Five & Four ("Face to Face"), and Placebo ("Showbiz Suite"). Very similar to the best comps on the Soul Jazz label, with thoughtful fusiony grooves. CD

✨✧ Placebo (Marc Moulin)Ball Of Eyes (180 gram pressing) ... LP
EMI/Music On Vinyl (Netherlands), 1971. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A very cool little album from Placebo – arguably the group's most soulful session ever, and one that draws heavily from American funky jazz at the start of the 70s! The grooves are nice and tight, and keyboards are focused on the most soulful sort of riffs – not nearly as tripped out as in later years, and really doing a great job of sending home the funky rhythms – almost in a way that's sort of early CTI at the best points! Marc Moulin's genius is already firmly in place – and he handles all arrangements, plus plays Fender Rhodes, electric harpsichord, and even what sounds like a bit of moog! Titles include "Humpty Dumpty", "Aria", "Showbiz Suite", "Ball Of Eyes", "You Got Me Hummin", and "Inner City Blues". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Placebo/Sadi Quartet/Rene ThomasLive In Bruxelles – Jazz In Belgium – Three Days In April (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
P-Vine (Japan), 1973. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Rare work from the legendary funky group Placebo – recorded live here in a set that also features contributions from two other great Belgian acts too! Placebo dominate the first half of the record – and turn in a hard-driving performance that's heavy on Fender Rhodes from the legendary Marc Moulin – who has this way of playing that makes his keyboard lines all nice and chunky, and a perfect fit for the funky drums and tight horns on the tunes! The group's a septet, with two trumpets, two saxes, bass, and drums – all kicking out a great groove for the Rhodes, on tunes that include "Showbiz Suite", "Only Nineteen", and "Planes". Next up is strongly soulful work from vibist Fats Sadi – a player you might know from his 60s work on MPS and in the Clarke Boland Big Band – sounding great here in a quartet mode, with piano, bass and drums – ringing out out strongly on tunes that include "Burgos", "Gigi's Pad", and "Gospel Time". Last up is guitarist Rene Thomas – a player whose best-known work is from the 50s Parisian scene. Rene still sounds great here – and actually plays with a harder tone and more freewheeling vibe – in a trio with bass and drums, on the titles "Blue Tempo", "My Wife Maria", and "Chega Da Saudade". ✨✧ Marc Moulin/PlaceboPlacebo Years – 1971 to 1974 (180 gram turquoise vinyl pressing) ... LP
EMI/Music On Vinyl (Netherlands), Early 70s. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Some of the heaviest keyboard funk recorded in Europe during the early 70s – all the work of the jazz/rock combo Placebo, headed up by the legendary Marc Moulin! The tracks here are awash in Fender Rhodes and other keys – all supported by tight basslines, funky drums, and a fair bit of jazzy riffing on sax, trumpet, and flute. But the main groove always focuses around the keyboards – recorded with a spare, almost earthy quality that's a fair bit greater than some of the slicker keys that crept into the European scene a few years later. Moulin's really at the top of his game here – working in a groove that could easily rival Herbie Hancock or Bob James in the US – and unlike his Sam Suffy set, of similar vintage, this collection's all straight ahead jazz funk, with hardly a bit of experimentation! Tracks are from the albums Ball Of Eyes, 1973, and Placebo – and the set list here differs from the earlier Counterpoint collection with a similar name. 9 tracks in all – including "NW", "Balek", "SUS", "Aria", "Stomp", "Red Net", "Showbizz Suite", "Polk", and "Humpty Dumpty". LP, Vinyl record album
(Individually numbered limited edition of 1000 – on heavyweight turquoise vinyl!)
