✨✧ Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah BandDr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band ... LP
RCA, 1976. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the most creative club acts of the 70s – the mighty Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band! Before starting his Kid Creole & the Coconuts combo, August Darnell worked to great fame with Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band – kind of a campy, jazzy ensemble – one that worked with a 20s aesthetic over a disco groove! There's a fair bit of acoustic instrumentation in the rhythms, and lots of those choppy, scratchy lines that we love so much in the Kid Creole work – all of which makes for a very nice change from the usual, especially in the late 70s mainstream. Darnell and Cory Daye are the main vocalists, and Darnell wrote all the lyrics for the album – on titles that include "Cherchez La Femme", "I'll Play The Fool", "Sour And Sweet", "We Got It Made", "Hard Times", "Sunshower", and "Betcha The Love Bug Bitcha". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousRoots Rock Reggae (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Savannah/Doctor Bird (UK), Late 70s. New Copy 2CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A fantastic collection of roots reggae from a lesser-known source – material issued on the Big Phil label of Phil Mathias – brought together to make a superb album as a whole! There's a nice mix of artists here, and the production styles are also nicely varied – with some numbers that still have a roots vibe, but also move into warmer lovers territory – balanced with deeper, more progressive cuts that make the whole thing an all-killer, no-filler set! Titles include "A Lonely Walk" by Albert Malawi, "Consider Yourself" by Delroy Wilson, "Black Beauty" by The Mindbenders, "Riding High" by The In Crowd, "Never Get Weary" by Wellesley Braham, "Think About Tomorrow" by Ranking Joe, "Miserable Woman" by Leroy Smart, and "Once Upon A Time" by The Main Attractions. 2CD set also features 19 bonus tracks, 6 previously unissued, including some rare 12" singles – titles that include "Help Us Jah (12" mix)" by Leroy Brown, "Why Won't You Come On (12" mix)" by Bim Sherman, "So Many Times" by The Majestrians, "Too Sweet To Let Go (12" mix)" by The Studds, "Running (12" mix)" by Devon Lyon & Jah Thomas, "Road Traffic Law (12" mix)" by Jah Ruby, and "Wise Man" by Junior Dan. ✨✧ VariousOsunlade Presents Offering ... CD
R2 (UK), 2002. Used ... $6.99
Quite an Offering indeed – as Osunlade presents a rich tapestry of globally-influenced grooves, including some of his own work from recent singles, other work of a similar nature from European artists, and a few lost tracks that fit in very nicely with the mood of the set! Afro-funk inspired beats meet warm house production, smooth soul vocals, and jazz-influenced production – the best of New York, London, and Europe wrapped into one sweet little package, mixed non-stop by Osunlade! Titles include "Chimes Of Freedom" by Atelewo, "Night Of Music" by Savannah, "Our Music" by Trackheads, "Damelo" by Gregory, "That Night (Wahoo mix)" by Jazzanova with Vikter Duplaix, "Tranquility 2001 (ambient mix)" by Mettle Music, "Midnight Ceremony (Osunlade's Black Messiah mix)" by Boobjazz, "Samba (scat dub)" by Faze Action, "Bota Foga" by John Beltran, "Don't Be Blue (slow & local mix)" by Jackie & Roy, "Alegre" by Truby Trio, "Africa" by Osunlade presentes Beats De Los Muertos, and "Tree Of Life" by Osunlade with Nadirah Shakoor. ✨✧ Peter EvansBeing & Becoming ... LP
Peter Evans, 2020. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A nicely spacious quartet date from trumpeter Peter Evans – one that lets the leader's horn get plenty of room to roam around in the open space of improvisation – but which also features some great contributions from Nick Jozwiak on bass, Savannah Harris on drums, and Joel Ross on vibes – the last of whom is very nice, and a lot more outside and experimental than on some of his other recordings! Evans is often very careful in the way he picks his notes out of the air – blowing both conventional and piccolo trumpet – and often hanging around some favorite patterns for a bit, before stepping out more – balanced nicely by the less-rhythmic work of Ross on vibes, who also chooses some darker, more chromatic elements to offset the horn. Titles include "Wormhole", "Sphere", "Double Drone", "Point Of Return", and "Matrix". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousDisco Discharge – Classic Disco ... CD
Harmless (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
Way more than just classic disco – hardly the hits package you might expect, and a really well-chosen batch of grooves that gets right down to the music that really mattered on the dancefloor back in the day! As you'd hear in the best clubs of the late 70s, the grooves here come from a range of different sources – funky jazz, clubby soul, crossover club, and more – tracks from both big labels and small, laid out back to back at a level that really recreates the excitement of a hip disco back in the day – not in a live mix, so you can enjoy each song on its own, but still in a way that makes you feel like there's a legendary DJ guiding the grooves. Titles include "Love Magic" by John Davis & Monster Orchestra, "Thanks For Loving Me" by Double Discovery, "Do Your Dance" by Rose Royce, "Funk Encounter" by The Constellation Orchestra, "Keep On Dancin" by Gary's Gang, "Counting On Love" by Peter Jacques Band, "Gone Gone Gone" by Johnny Mathis, "What A Difference A Day Makes" by Esther Phillips, "Makes You Blind (re-edit)" by Glitter Band, "Just A Groove" by Glen Adams Affair, "Livin Up To Love" by Companion, "Got To Have Loving" by Don Ray, "Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone" by Manhattan Transfer, "Turn The Music Up" by Players Association, "It Burns Me Up" by Change, "Look For Love" by Cerrone, and "Cherchez La Femme/Se Si Bon" by Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band.
