✨✧ Rolling StonesBeggars Banquet ... LP
London, 1968. Good Gatefold ... $14.99
One of the greatest albums ever from The Rolling Stones – a set that still draws on all the bluesy roots of their best 60s material, yet which also shows a sharper, nastier edge as well! The album shows the tremendous sense of focus and power the Stones had in this crucial late 60s stretch – a bold step forward that would give them some of their most memorable moments ever, launched by this sublime set of tracks that includes "Sympathy For The Devil", "Street Fighting Man", "Dear Doctor", "Parachute Woman", "Prodigal Son", "Factory Girl", and "Stray Cat Blues". LP, Vinyl record album
(Blue label stereo pressing with Jagger/Richards credits, in the gold border gatefold cover. Vinyl plays with some crackle and occasional click, mostly on Side 2. Cover has surface wear and aging, split seams, a name in pen, and some smudges in front.)

✨✧ Rolling StonesExile On Main Street ... LP
Rolling Stones, 1972. Very Good 2LP Gatefold ... $44.99
The Rolling Stones at their rawest, most shambling, sleazy and brilliant – the epic, unimpeachable Exile On Main Street! What can we say about one of the most iconic LPs of all time other than chime in with our agreement that it's one of the greatest rock albums ever! Big choruses come and go, but the easy hooks of earlier and later Stones hits are buried in mud, grit and a sleazy bluesy groove. Titles include "Rocks Off", "Rip This Joint", "Tumbling Dice", "Sweet Virginia", "Loving Cub", "Torn And Frayed", "Let It Loose", "All Down The Line", "Shine A Light", "Soul Survivor" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Broadway label pressing with Artisan etch in the Unipak cover. Includes the printed inner sleeves & perforated postcards. Cover has surface wear with some scrapes, unglued bottom seam, some wear on spine.)

Rolling StonesGet Yer Ya Ya's Out – The Rolling Stones In Concert ... LP
London, 1970. Very Good+ ... $18.99
A landmark live set from the Rolling Stones – featuring material from their smoking tour of 1969! The set really captures the Stones at their most nasty – that great turning point when their edge was maybe sharpest of ever, right in the best Let It Bleed mode – but with even more raw energy from the live setting. Titles include "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Love In Vain", "Carol", "Live With Me", "Street Fighting Man", "Sympathy For The Devil", "Little Queenie", "Honky Tonk Women" and "Stray Cat Blues". ✨✧ Rolling StonesGoats Head Soup ... LP
Rolling Stones, 1973. Very Good+ ... $16.99
A sometimes-overlooked classic from the Rolling Stones – but that's maybe just because it's sometimes obscured in the shadow of Exile On Main Street, the record that immediately preceded it! And while it might be a stretch to some, we like to think of Goat's head as kind of a capper to that double-length set – as the Stones are still working out a fair bit of similar ideas, with an opening ear to some global currents, and with great help from some of their key collaborators too. The set's worth it alone for the classic gut-wrencher "Angie" – and other tracks include "Star Star", "Hide Your Love", "Winter", "Can You Hear The Music", "100 Years Ago", and "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes printed inner sleeve. Cover has light surface wear.)

Rolling StonesLet It Bleed ... CD
Abkco, 1969. Used ... $1.99 2.99
Hard to go wrong with a Stones classic like this one – a record that really has the group hitting their late 60s stride, and coming across with a depth and power that really goes beyond their earlier releases! There's a sinister quality to the record right from the start – thanks to the brooding, haunting power of "Gimmie Shelter" – and the sublime "Monkey Man", which may well be one of our favorite Rolling Stones songs ever! But the whole thing's great – and other tracks include "Love In Vain", "Let It Bleed", "Live With Me", "Midnight Rambler", "Country Honk", and the classic "You Can't Always Get What You Want". CD

A 70s album from The Stones, but one with a 60s-looking cover – and for good reason too, as the set features a whole host of unissued gems from their first decade in the studio! The package is a great reminder of how strong the group were at the start – so much so that the set ended up standing quite strongly next to other 70s giants from Mick and Keith. Way more than the disco cash-in some folks thought at the time – and a surprisingly classic set that perfectly sums up the late 70s Stones ethos – and, in a way, the vibe of a changing New York! Titles include "Miss You", "Beast Of Burden", "Shattered", "Imagination", "Lies", "Far Away Eyes" and "When The Whip Comes Down". LP, Vinyl record album

Rolling StonesSticky Fingers ... LP
Rolling Stones, 1971. Very Good+ ... $59.99
Landmark work from The Rolling Stones – and a set that may well stand alongside Exile On Main Street for capturing the group at their height! The record's got the Stones very much in their own space – years from just putting a UK spin on American blues – and instead, finding a way to take all their best influences, and fuse them into a nasty, gritty sound that's complete genius all the way through! Yet at the same time, the set also has them more comfortable with rootsy elements too – but returning to styles in ways that are very different than their youth – with a new sort of mature confidence that holds the album together wonderfully. Titles include "Brown Sugar", "Wild Horses", "You Gotta Move", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "Bitch", "Sister Morphine", "Dead Flowers", and "I Got The Blues". LP, Vinyl record album
(Broadway label pressing in the zipper cover with CORT clasp. Cover side flap is unglued, some edge wear, light surface wear, hype sticker on the back.)

Rolling StonesTheir Satanic Majesties Request ... LP
London, 1967. Very Good Gatefold ... $29.99
A record that was initially thought by some as a cheap cash-in on the Sgt Peppers concept – but an album that, to us, really helped set The Rolling Stones free to express themselves in so many new and amazing ways! There's definitely a bit of the hippie vibe to the set at times – such as sitar that might have been unimaginable on a Stones track a few years before – but there's also an explosively creative approach to the album's arrangements and production, creating a kaleidoscope of sounds that only further seems to illuminate the Jagger and Richards genius! Titles include the classic "She's A Rainbow" – plus "Citadel", "2000 Man", "On With The Show", "Sing All This Together", "In Another Land", "The Lantern", and "Gomper". LP, Vinyl record album

A bit of an odd album, but one that showed the Stones were alive and kicking in the 80s. A club crossover classic from The Rolling Stones – a track that surprisingly got the group onto the dancefloor in the late 70s, but which still held onto most of their best elements! Although sometimes panned as a cheap disco cash-in effort by some, the tune is actually pretty darn great – a gritty little tune that relies on heavy vamping, rolled-out guitar parts, and one of the catchiest vocal hooks that Mick Jagger had sung in years. Harmonica completes the sound, and the whole thing's got a bluesy undercurrent that's totally great! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Eagle Rock, 1981. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A legendary night at Chicago's Checkerboard Lounge – a set recorded at a time when the Rolling Stones were in town, and decided to pop down to the south side, and visit the home turf of their blues hero, Muddy Waters! You'll notice that the record bills the performance as Muddy Waters & The Rolling stones – and that's definitely the case here, as the Stones step in almost as Muddy's backing band – allowing Waters to really step out in the lead, while the group remind us that way back in the day, they got their start as a blues-based group first, before finding a style of their own! The set's also filled with guest appearances – including work from Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and Lefty Dizz – and titles include "Mannish Boy", "Hoochie Coochie Man", "Long Distance Call", "Next Time You See Me", "Champagne & Reefer", "Clouds In My Heart", "One Eyed Woman", and "You Don't Have To Go".

It's a covers-heavy set, given that they were just beginning to do doing original material at this early point – and the tracks include the Jagger/Richards penned "Good Times, Bad Times", "Congradulations" and "Grown Up Wrong" – plus "Time Is On My Side", "Around And Around", "2120 South Michigan Avenue", "Susie Q" and more. A sometimes-overlooked classic from the Rolling Stones – but that's maybe just because it's sometimes obscured in the shadow of Exile On Main Street, the record that immediately preceded it! The set's worth it alone for the classic gut-wrencher "Angie" – and other tracks include "Star Star", "Hide Your Love", "Winter", "Can You Hear The Music", "100 Years Ago", and "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)". Joel SelvinAltamont – The Rolling Stones, The Hells Angels & The Inside Story Of Rock's Darkest Day (hardcover) ... Book
Dey St, 2016. New Copy ... $4.99 27.99
A detailed look at one of the most famous rock and roll concerts of all time – the ill-fated Rolling Stones 1969 performance at Altamont race track, in which the group made the mistake of inviting Hells Angels to handle security! The Angels were bullies, and famously stabbed a concert-goer at the event – after beating up many others along the way – and the whole event has been hailed as the end of the party for the 60s over the years. Yet while many tell the tale with easy explanations and a prime focus on either the Stones or the Angels, author Joel Selvin does a really great job of setting the whole scene, and putting the tragedy in the larger cultural context of the time – with a fair bit on both the leadup and the aftermath of the concert. 358 pages, hardcover, with some images. World Pacific, 1966. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A sweet jazzy take on the music of The Rolling Stones – one that features guitarist Joe Pass in the lead, over some tight backings from the great Bob Florence! Joe's joined by Dennis Budimir on additional acoustic guitar – and both players ring out with a hollow-body sound that's a lot lighter than the original style of Jagger & Richards – almost a bossa take on the Stones at points, supported by soprano and tenor sax from Bill Perkins, trombone from Tommy Pedersen, and vibes from Victor Feldman. Titles include "Lady Jane", "I Am Waiting", "As Tears Go By", "Stones Jazz", "Paint It Black", "Play With Fire", and "Mother's Little Helper". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo deep groove pressing. Cover has light wear and aging.)

CharmainesI Idolize You – The Fraternity Recordings 1960 to 1964 ... LP
Fraternity/Ace (UK), Early 60s. New Copy ... $18.99 19.99
A long-overdue collection of work by this sublime Ohio soul group of the 60s – a trio of lovely ladies with a really tremendous sound! The Charmaines – also known as Gigi & The Charmaines – are hardly the girl group cliche you might think from their sweet name and the image on the cover – and on most of the numbers here, they're hard-rolling at a pace that's somewhere between the best Detroit Northern Soul of the time, and some of the sweeter female soul that was coming out of Chicago at the end of the 60s. This package focuses mostly on the group's Fraternity Records singles, including a few unissued tracks – and titles include "GI Joe (first version)", "I Idolize You", "On The Wagon", "Goodbye Baby Goodbye", "Rockin Pneumonia", "Rockin Old Man", "Where Is The Boy Tonight", "All You Gotta Do", and "What Kind Of Girl" – plus their work with Lonnie Mack on "Money" and "Sticks & Stones", and with Carl Edmondson on "Baby Please Don't Go". Barbara KeithBarbara Keith (Warner) ... CD
Warner (Japan), 1972. Used ... Just Sold Out!
A really wonderful album from the lovely Barbara Keith – a singer who's a bit folksy at points, but also has all the cool Cali touches you'd expect from the canyon scene at the time – that special blend of elements that can make an early 70s album like this such a unique treasure! Barbara sings lead vocals, and provides acoustic guitar – and backing shifts from track to track, and features great contributions from folks like Spooner Oldham on Fender Rhodes and Danny Kootchmar and Lowell George on guitars! With company like that, you'll get a good idea of the style – a mode that's faithful to roots, but really pushes things forward – and with an approach that's maybe more subtle than some of Barbara's male contemporaries, but in a nice way. Titles include "Detroit Or Buffalo", "Shining All Along", "The Road I Took To You", "The Bramble & The Rose", "Rolling Water", and "A Stones Throw Away". CD
(Out of print, includes obi. SHMCD pressing.)
