✨✧ Roberta Flack & Donny HathawayRoberta Flack & Donny Hathaway ... LP
Atlantic, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An amazing record from the team of Flack & Hathaway – one of the hippest duos in soul! Individually, each had taken the music to new heights and new audiences, through the use of jazzy phrasing and sophisticated lyrics, while never selling out in the way that earlier pop soul acts had been reduced to. Flack's somber folksy style is a perfect match for the warm spirituality of Hathaway – and the pair work beautifully in counterpoint on hits like "You've Got A Friend" and "Where Is The Love", as well as on more obscure numbers like "Be Real Black For Me", "When Love Has Grown", and "For All We Know". The album also features a 7 minute spare acoustic/electric piano instrumental called "Mood". LP, Vinyl record album
(Broadway label stereo pressing with RI suffix.)

Donny HathawayDonny Hathaway Collection (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP
Atlantic, Early 70s. New Copy 2LP ... $36.99 39.99
Pure genius from Donny Hathaway – a 70s soul giant who burned brightly for just a few years, then was taken away from us all too soon! In our book, Donny is every bit a giant of the decade as Marvin Gaye or Curtis Mayfield – and you'll hear work here that easily matches the best of both, topped with some of the musical complexity that made Hathaway such a budding talent in the studio – ready to give his gifts to so many, and be shared with the world! Every cut's a gem – and titles include "The Ghetto", "Giving Up", "Someday We'll Be Free", "To Be Young Gifted & Black", "A Song For You", "What's Going On", and "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" – as well as Hathaway's Holiday classic "This Christmas" – maybe the tune that most people know the best. Also features famous duets with Roberta Flack on "Where Is The Love", "The Closer I Get To You", "You've Got A Friend", "Back Together Again", and "You Are My Heaven". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Donny HathawayBest Of Donny Hathaway ... LP
Atco, Early 70s. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
A classic overview of the too-short career of 70s soul genius Donny Hathaway – issued by Atlantic Records right after Donny was taken from us all too soon! There's a really nice mix of tracks here – album cuts and singles, and tunes that show both the farther reaches of sophisticated soul that Hathaway was opening up, mixed with his great ear for a catchy tune! Titles include the wonderful funky instrumental "Valdez In The Country", the seminal holiday tune "This Christmas", and classics "The Ghetto", "Giving Up", "Someday We'll All Be Free", "A Song For You", and "You Were Meant For Me" – plus duets with Roberta Flack on "You've Got A Friend" and "Where Is The Love". LP, Vinyl record album
(Vintage pressing, still sealed, with a cutout hole and hype sticker. Cover has lightly bent corners.)

✨✧ Roberta FlackChapter Two ... LP
Atlantic, 1970. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Mindblowing work from Roberta Flack – an album that should be in the collection of any fan of righteous soul music! Forget all the wimpier modes of Flack's later years – because here, the young Roberta is a vision of positive power and spiritual soul – a singer with roots in jazz, which helps to transform some of the album's very surprising song choices – and a depth and sensitivity that goes way past the usual female soul modes of the time. Donny Hathaway handled half the arrangements for the record – a perfect choice for Flack – and Deodato handles the other, with some large arrangements that still have just the right sort of gentleness to go with her voice. Titles include a version of "Reverend Lee", penned by Eugene Daniels – and the great "Gone Away", written by Curtis Mayfield, Leroy Hutson, and Hathaway – plus the tracks "Just Like A Woman", "Do What You Gotta Do", "Business Goes On As Usual", and "Until It's Time For You To Go". ✨✧ Roberta Flack & Peabo BrysonLive & More ... LP
Atlantic, 1980. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A double album from Roberta & Peabo – with some nicely recorded tracks from a gig at The Holiday Star Theater in Merrillville, IN (not too far south of Chicago) in the dawn of the 80s – and some tight studio material, too! It's got a some terrific live versions of some of the biggest hits from both singers – plus their great duets. Titles include "Don't Make Me Wait Too Long", a nice version of "Back Together Again" – which was originally done by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway, "Killing Me Softly", "God Don't Like Ugly", "Feel The Fire", and "Only Heaven Can Wait/You Are My Heaven". 14 tracks on 2LPs. ✨✧ Les McCannComment ... LP
Atlantic, 1970. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A very hip record of vocal tracks – done in the same sort of spiritual soul style that Les introduced on Roberta Flack's first album, and which was also showing up on some of Donny Hathaway's work for Atlantic. While the record is not on of McCann's funkiest, it more than makes up for that with the well-conceived vocal performances – especially on the tracks that feature arrangements by William S Fischer. Titles include "What I Call Soul", "How Many Broken Wings", "Can't We Be Strangers Again", "Comment", and "Baby Baby". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Faith PillowFaith Pillow ... LP
Uncle Tunes, 1981. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A lost soul gem! Faith Pillow has a style that's a bit Roberta Flack, a bit Donny Hathaway – mixing up soul and jazz in a mode that's pretty complicated, quite sophisticated, yet unarguably soulful! This rare 1981 set is a live recording that features Faith in an intimate setting – singing over small group accompaniment on a set of original tunes like "Winston", "Shady Lady", "Love Me Right", and "Sanity" – plus good covers of "Blackbird" and "Natural Woman". The record was a "private" classic long before anyone was ever talking about "private" records – and for good reason too! LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic, Late 40s/1950s/1960s/Early 70s. Used 8 CDs ... Out Of Stock
Here it is, the mother of them all! The set's got 8CDs worth of killer soul, funk, and Rhythm & Blues – all culled from the rich history of the Atlantic records label, and lovingly put together with great notes and everything! Although this sort of set usually tends to be a bit simplistic, this box actually features a beautiful mix of tracks, lots of which are hard to get in any format. It's a lot to go through, but it's worth the trip! We can't even begin to list the tracks here, there's 203(!) of them in all, but some of the artists include the Bar Kays, the Beginning of the End, Archie Bell & The Drells, Ruth Brown, Solomon Burke, the Capitols, Clarence Carter, the Chords, the Cookies, Don Covay, King Curtis, Tyrone Davis, the Drifters, Roberta Flack, King Floyd, Aretha Franklin, Major Harris, Donny Hathaway, the Ikettes, Willis Jackson, Nat Kendricks & The Swans, Barabra Lewis, the Mar-keys, Les McCann & Eddie Harris, Stick McGhee, Otis & Carla, the Persuaders, Percy Sledge, The Spinners, Willie Tee, Joe Tex, Chuck Willis, Betty Wright and loads more!
