✨✧ Ray Parker JrOther Woman ... LP
Arista, 1982. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Ray Parker steps out here with the other woman – with a groove that's somewhat different than his earlier sound with Raydio! There's a slightly sharper edge than before – almost a rockish influence in some of the instrumentation, which is a key factor in helping Parker's crossover in the 80s – one that had undeniable impact on the sound of other mainstream soul. At times, it's almost as if there's a slight hint of new wave inspiration in the rhythms and instrumentation – used very sparingly, but quite different than earlier Raydio funk and soul. Parker's vocals are more pronounced than before too – almost with a bite on the upbeat numbers – but warmly soulful on the mellower cuts, which we still like best. Titles include "Stay The Night", The Other Woman", "Street Love", "Let's Get Off", "Stop, Look Before You Leave", and "Let Me Go". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a stained corner and a cutout notch.)

✨✧ Ray Parker JrChartbusters ... LP
Arista, 1985. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
A very fitting title – not just because of Ray's big fame for the theme of the film Ghostbusters, but also because Parker was really hitting the charts at the time! The album's something of a compilation – one that features a few moments from earlier in Parker's career, mixed with a few fresh tracks out at the time of the record – showing the full range of Ray's talents in the early 80s. Titles include "Ghostbusters (12" single rmx)", "Christmas Time Is Here", "Invasion", "Woman Out Of Control", "A Woman Needs Love", "Jamie", "The Other Woman", and "I've Been Digging You". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cutout mark. Shrinkwrap still has the hype sticker.)

✨✧ Ray Parker JrSex & The Single Man ... LP
Arista, 1985. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Ray Parker's definitely a single man at this point in his career – leaving behind his earlier role in the Raydio group, and working here as writer and producer on a string of 80s hits! The album follows strongly in the catchy, crossover mode of Parker's work from the middle part of the decade – almost equally balanced between mainstream rock and soul styles of the time – with lots of popping rhythms and plenty of Ray's guitar underneath his vocals. Titles include "I'm A Dog", "Sex & The Single Man", "I'm In Love", "Girls Are More Fun", "Good Time Baby", and "Everybody Wants Someone". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear and a cut corner.)

✨✧ Ray Parker JrWoman Out Of Control/Sex & The Single Man ... CD
Arista/Soulmusic.com (UK), 1983/1985. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A pair of Ray Parker Jr classics – back to back on a single CD! On Woman Out Of Control, Ray Parker's at the height of his 80s hitmaking power, scoring strongly on one of his key classics from the decade for Arista! The tunes have a bit more of that catchy, rhythm-heavy sound that Parker was forging at the start of the decade – a quality that moves away from straight mainstream soul into crossover territory that would only suit Ray even more strongly a few years later. There's plenty of numbers here that aim strongly for radio play on both sides of the fence, but Parker balances things out with enough traces of his roots to keep things interesting. Titles include "Electronic Lover", "Woman Out Of Control", "Invasion", "N2U2", "She Still Feels The Need", and "In The Heat Of The Night". Sex & The Single Man follows strongly in the catchy, crossover mode of Parker's work from the middle part of the decade – almost equally balanced between mainstream rock and soul styles of the time – with lots of popping rhythms and plenty of Ray's guitar underneath his vocals. Titles include "I'm A Dog", "Sex & The Single Man", "I'm In Love", "Girls Are More Fun", "Good Time Baby", and "Everybody Wants Someone". CD

Jr TuckerJr Tucker ... CD
Geffen/PTG (Netherlands), 1983. New Copy ... $10.99
Jr Parker gets some great help from Ray Parker – not that Ray's a family member or anything like that – he's just got a great ear for the kind of groove Jr's going for in his music! Ray produced and plays sweet guitar and keyboards on most tracks – giving the music that great Raydio bounce – which turns out to be a wonderful fit for the youthful Jr's vocals – almost styled in a Michael Jackson mode at points, but a bit deeper at other times too! Titles include "I Was Made For Dancing", "Too Young To Fall In Love", "If It's Love You're After", "Treat Me Right", "Mr Telephone Man", and "Bad Girls". CD

✨✧ Cheryl LynnGot To Be Real – The Best Of Cheryl Lynn ... CD
Columbia/Sony, Late 70s/Early 80s. Used ... $3.99
Plenty real soul here – a killer collection of Columbia grooves by Cheryl Lynn – a set that runs right from the clubby start to the more commercial finish of her time at the label! The package is a great illustration of Cheryl's ability to rise to the occasion in just about any setting – and although work is handled by a variety of producers – including Marty Paic, Ray Parker Jr, Barry Blue, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and even Luther Vandross – Cheryl always comes out on top in the end! ✨✧ Randy HallI Belong To You ... CD
MCA/PTG (Netherlands), 1984. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A catchy slice of mid 80s soul from Randy Hall – an excellent musician who handles quite a bit of the instrumentation, on top of being a charismatic singer – and this one's produced by Ray Parker Jr, whose ear for catchy hooks is in top form! Hall spins a lot of plates on his own – most of the vocals, some guitar, bass, keys and programming – but there's a lot of other great players in the studio, including producer Parker – and that dedication to real musicianship puts I Belong To You on higher level than a lot of pop soul, circa '84! Great stuff! Includes "I've Been Watching You (Jamie's Girl)", "A Gentleman", "Feel My Eyes", "She's My Little Star", 'I Want To Touch You", "I Belong To You", "A Real Man" and more. CD
