Patti AustinEvery Home Should Have One ... LP
Qwest, 1981. Very Good+ ... $6.99
A big one for Patti Austin – and a set that moved her from the jazz/soul sidelines right into the mainstream – but all without losing any of her charm from before! A big part of the record's success comes from the production work of Quincy Jones – a longtime associate who gave Patti some key exposure on earlier records of his own, and a great choice to handle the mix of sophisticated soul and jazzy moments on this set. The record features some key tunes penned by Rod Temperton – and James Ingram duets with Patti on the crossover classic "Baby Come To Me" – nestled nicely alongside other cuts that include "The Way I Feel", "Do You Love Me", "The Genie", "Stop Look Listen", "The Island", and "Symphony Of Love". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a name in marker and light wear.)

✨✧ George BensonGive Me The Night ... LP
Qwest/Warner, 1980. Very Good ... $9.99
Yipes! This one made everyone a bucket of money – especially Quincy Jones, whose new Qwest imprint the record was one of the first to grace. George has come a long way from his roots with Jack McDuff here – but in a way that kind of has us impressed, as he's grooving away slickly on guitar, laying down some smooth vocals that we never would have imagined from his mid 60s recordings. Includes the massive hit "Give Me The Night", a cover of "Moody's Mood", and the tracks "Star Of A Story (X)", "Midnight Love Affair", "What's On Your Mind", and "Dinorah, Dinorah". The sound of a million supermarkets and elevators during the 80s! LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes printed inner sleeve.)

Ernie WattsChariots Of Fire ... LP
Qwest, 1982. Very Good ... $2.99
Don't let the title and cover put you off – because the album's neither a version of the Chariots Of Fire soundtrack, nor the kind of hokey effort you might expect! Instead, the record's one of a great line of soulful 80s fusion sets from Ernie Watts – a player with roots in spiritual jazz, and countless 70s sessions for famous artists – but one who really came into his own with records like this! The album's got a sweet mix of jazz and R&B – a vibe that Ernie learned from LA scenemates The Crusaders, but which he explores here in a variety of ways – from upbeat groovers to mellow ballads, all voiced at a very personal level on alto sax. The record features a sweet remake of "Valdez In The Country" – retooled for the 80s – plus two takes on "Chariots Of Fire", and the tracks "Abraham's Theme", "Five Circles", "Lady", and "Hold On". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ New OrderLow-life ... LP
Factory/Qwest, 1985. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
New Order take a slightly sweeter turn for this mid 80s set – but still never lose the charm that won us from their first few records! There's a warmth here we might not have expected in the immediate post-Joy Division years – and a catchy tunefulness on some of the biggest crossover numbers on the set – yet, given the commercial dreck of the time, New Order are still way ahead of the pack – and from the perspective of these many years later, we're even more impressed at the way they manage to balance nascent pop sensibilities with some of the darker leanings of their roots. More than enough edgey guitar and moody basslines to please fans of the first two albums – on titles that include "Sunrise", "Elegia", "Love Vigilantes", "The Perfect Kiss", "Sub Culture", "Face Up", and "Sooner Than You Think". LP, Vinyl record album
(Columbia House pressing. NOTE – Cover is stained at the bottom half, with minor flaking on front. Includes the heavy inner sleeve, with some wrinkles from moisture.)

New OrderBlue Monday/The Beach ... 12-inch
Factory, 1983. Very Good+ (pic cover)... $24.99
A dark classic that broke out of the underground and forever transformed the world of dance music! "Blue Monday" has this infectious bass/keyboard riff that you'll recognize immediately – and which you've heard emulated a million times in electro house tracks from later on in the 80s. "The Beach" is more of the same – kind of a dub version of the hit. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(US Qwest pressing in a standard cover without die-cuts. Vinyl has just a few light surface marks. Cover looks great.)
