✨✧ VariousBrazilian Guitar Fuzz Bananas – Tropicalista Psychedelic Masterpieces 1967 to 1976 ... CD
Tropicalia In Furs/World Psychedelic Classics, Late 60s/1970s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A fuzzed out treasure trove of rare Brazilian psychedelia – wild stuff that's in many ways akin to the freewheeling sounds of the Tropicalia movement, but not necessarily taking on the cultural and political weight of that movement – and more about the boundless spirit of psychedelia and funk rock around the globe! The sounds are buzzing and indeed fuzzy throughout, ranging from raw and ramshackle guitar jams to more organ and drum driven funky, and it's really incredible stuff all around. We've been purveyors of hard to find Brazilian music for many many years, and this set – compiled by Joel Stones who also provides the richly detailed – brings to light some numbers we've never heard! 16 tracks in all: "Tema De Banana", "Era Uma Nota De" Loyce E Os Gnomes, "I Wanna Be Your Man" by Youngsters, "Ourico" by Serguei, "Lindo Sonho Delirante" by Fabio, "Cinturao De Fog" by Marisa Rossi, 'Som Imaginario De Jimmi Hendrix" by The Pops, "The Lantern" by Mac Rybell and more. CD version comes with a thick booklet of notes, in both English and Portuguese, and it's an enhanced CD – with the short documentary What Are Fuzz Bananas?. CD
(Enhanced CD.)

✨✧ VariousJon Savage's 1980 to 1982 – The Art Of Things To Come ... CD
Ace (UK), Early 80s. New Copy 2CD ... $19.99 23.99
A mighty nice collision of sounds – and one that really gets at the special spirit of music on the left side of the scene at the start of the 80s! Sure, punk broke things open in the late 70s – but a few years later, that initial shock gave way to a much more fluid, experimental sort of scene – one in which different sounds and styles could resonate with each other in a really great way – some barriers between rock and soul forever taken down, and the door from the artier side of the spectrum open to bring some fresh ideas into the mainstream! Writer Jon Savage was a very important part of the scene at the time – and here, he recalls the musical moment not just with a great array of tracks that leap between genres, but also with well-penned notes that get at the thought behind the tunes included on the 35 track set. Titles include "Hydraulic Pump (part 2)" by P Funk All Stars, "We're So Cool" by Au Pairs, "Planet Rock" by Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force, "Don't Make Me Wait" by NYC Peech Boys, "Poor Old Soul (part 2)" by Orange Juice, "Sound Of The Crowd" by Human League, "Underground" by The Bizarros, "Twist & Crawl" by The Beat, "These Days" by Joy Division, "The Apartment" by Giorgio Moroder, "She's Lost Control" by Grace Jones, "More Bounce To The Ounce" by Zapp, "Flight" by A Certain Ratio, "Euthenics" by Modern Eon, "Too Many Creeps" by Bush Tetras, "How We Gonna Make The Black Nation Rise" by Brother D with Collective Effort, "Mack The Knife" by Psychedelic Furs, "Pictures" by Josef K, "Adventures On The Wheels Of Steel" by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, "Art On 45" by Royal Family & The Poor, and "Our Love" by Donna Summer. VariousLife Moves Pretty Fast – The John Hughes Mixtape ... LP
Edsel (UK), 1980s. New Copy 2LP ... $42.99 49.99
Director John Hughes gave the world some pretty great movies back in the 80s – and in most of those movies, music was a very big part of the experience – as Hughes had a way of using just the right songs in just the right moments, and also helped get wider mainstream exposure for some of the hipper acts of the time! This package is a great tribute to the kinds of cuts that Hughes would use – some done especially for his films, most from other records but used in key scenes – in a package that collects together songs from films that include Some Kind Of Wonderful, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty In Pink, She's Having A Baby, Weird Science, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Planes Trains & Automobiles. 2LP version features 25 cuts in all – with titles that include "Do Anything (soundtrack version)" by Pete Shelly, "Eighties" by Killing Joke, "Full Of Love" by Dr Calculus, "Beat City" by Flowerpot Men, "She's Having A Baby" by Dave Wakeling, "I Go Crazy" by Flesh For Lulu, "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds, "If You Leave" by OMD, "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush, "Oh Yeah" by Yellow, "Pretty In Pink" by Psychedelic Furs, "Brilliant Mind" by Furniture, "Six Days On The Road" by Steve Earle, "Crazy Love" by Bryan Ferry, "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby (soundtrack version)" by Kirsty MacColl, "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want (inst)" by Dream Academy, "Tenderness" by General Public, "Bring On The Dancing Horses" by Echo & The Bunnymen, "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Lick The Tins, "Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo, "Left Of Center" by Suzanne Vega & Joe Jackson, and "If You Were Here" by Thompson Twins. VariousStudio Wizardry Of Todd Rundgren ... CD
Ace (UK), 1970s/Early 80s. New Copy ... $14.99 22.99
Todd Rundgren's known to most as a hell of a songwriter, and a singer with surprising charms – but he's also a genius in the studio, with talents that were first demonstrated on all of his early self-produced classics – then shared with some key acts in the 70s and 80s! As with his own music, Rundgren really has a way with making a tune come together – a special ear for getting everything to sound right, but at a level that's simple and understated – so that all the best qualities of a song come out perfectly, but without making you feel like you're being hit over the head by the process behind the music! That quality is on great display here – in a set of 22 numbers that feature Rundgren at the helm, with details that are extrapolated more fully in the detailed notes within – but which come through loud and clear on tunes that include "Baby Blue" by Badfinger, "Long Times Gone" by Felix Cavaliere, "You're Much Too Soon" by Hall & Oates, "Frederick" by Patti Smith, Heaven's Falling" by Cheap Trick, "Jet Boy" by New York Dolls, "One Night Stand" by Janis Joplin, "L5" by New England, "We're An American Band" by Grand Funk Railroad, "Dear God" by XTC, "Something Warm" by Rick Derringer, "Long Road Home" by Fanny, "Fa La Fa Lee" by Sparks, "Piece By Piece" by The Tubes, "Love Is The Answer" by Utopia, "Goodbye" by The Psychedelic Furs, and "She's So Young" by The Pursuit Of Happiness. ✨✧ VariousStranger Things – Music From The Netflix Series ... CD
Legacy, Early 80s. Used ... Out Of Stock

But the set isn't just a collection of 80s rock, becuase it's also interspersed with cool elements from the show – bits of dialogue, and even Will singing a Clash song at one point – all alongside 80s classics that include "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" by The Clash, "Sunglasses At Night" by Corey Hart, "Hazy Shade Of Winter" by The Bangles, "Girls On Film" by Duran Duran, "Heroes" by Peter Gabriel, "Back To Nature" by Fad Gadget, "The Ghost In You" by Psychedelic Furs, "Nocturnal Me" by Echo & The Bunnymen, "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper, "Talking In Your Sleep" by The Romantics, "Whip It" by Devo, "Runaway" by Bon Jovi, "Atmosphere" by Joy Division, "Rock You Like A Hurricane" by The Scorpions, and "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" by Jim Croce.
