CherrelleHigh Priority ... CD
Tabu, 1985. Used ... $7.99
Sweet 80s grooves from Cherrelle – a set that really has the singer cooking strongly with the production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis – complete with all the heavy beats you might expect! Jam and Lewis borrow plenty of bottom sounds from the styles of hip hop and electro, and do a great job of mixing the rhythmic elements with Cherrelle's catchy vocals – all in a way that really blows away some of their more chart-topping productions, as the tunes have a bit more of an underground appeal! Make no mistake, this is definitely the poppier side of the soul spectrum – but there's also a freshness here that goes way past Janet Jackson – and which retains some of that smoother, more sophisticated sound we always love in the Tabu label. Titles include "You Look Good To Me", "High Priority", "Artificial Heart", "Saturday Love", "Oh No It's U Again", and "New Love". CD

Ice CubeDeath Certificate (with 3D lenticular cover image) ... LP
Priority, 1991. New Copy (reissue)... $31.99 35.99
Cube's anger goes full throttle on his second post NWA full-length. He takes every aspect of his social commentator standpoints to another level from his solo debut – the roles of the angry and educated leader, and the finger-pointing blamer each get their say here, and so do those furiously funky Lench Mob beats. One of the last great gangsta era records to be so propulsive and exciting – Dre's Chronic was waiting just around the corner to haze this sound out of the picture for good. Quite tough to find on wax in it's original pressing – and the titles include include "Givin Up The Nappy Dug Out", "The Funeral", "Wrong Ni**a To –- Wit", "My Summer Vacation", and "Steady Mobbin". LP, Vinyl record album
(Top notch 2015 pressing – with a 3D lenticular cover!)

✨✧ MC LyteEyes On This ... CD
First Priority/Traffic, 1989. New Copy ... $6.99 14.98
MC Lyte's second full length record – a bit overlooked in the grand scheme, if only because the preceding Lyte As A Rock was a tough act to follow – so now's a great time to catch up with it! To our ears, Eyes On This is every bit as nice as the debut, and it that last of Lyte's no nonsense late 80s east coast rap efforts – before she started inching more towards a commercial style in the early 90s. An underappreciated classic! Includes "Cappucino", "Stop, Look, Listen" featuring Audio Two, "Survival of the Fittest (rmx)", "I Am the Lyte", "Cha Cha Cha", "Not Wit' A Dealer" and another song dedicated to Shante, "Shut The Eff Up! (Hoe)". Also includes "Throwin Words At U", "Please Understand", "Rhyme Hangover", "Funky Song" and "Slave 2 The Rhythm". CD

✨✧ NWAStraight Outta Compton ... LP
Priority, 1988. New Copy (reissue)... Just Sold Out!
Benchmark west coast gangsta – and one of the hardest hitting albums of the era in any genre! We're not gonna lie, we played this record to death when it came out – and it still holds up better than most of the material put out by former NWA's, and most of the West Coast sound-alikes that popped up later. For better and for worse, the start of an era – with undeniable strength and a production style that'll never get old! Features "Straight Outta Compton", "Express Yourself", "Dopeman (rmx)", "I Ain't The One", the title track, "Gangsta Gangsta" and the only record ever condemned by the FBI, "F*ck Tha Police" and more. Ruthless/Priority, 1987. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99 25.99
Nice early Ruthless compilation, issued on Macola in '87, and a year later on Priority with a slightly altered tracklist – featuring NWA and other affilated members of the Ruthless stable at the time – with tracks by NWA, solo Eazy-E and Fila Fresh Crew featuring DOC! A genuine blueprint for west coast gangsta and Dr. Dre productions to come – with all tracks produced by Dre, with titles that include "8 Ball", "Panic Zone", and "Dope Man" by NWA. "LA Is The Place" and "Boyz N The Hood" by Eazy E, "Dunk The Funk", "Tuffest Man Alive" and "3 The Hard Way" by Fila Fresh Crew w/DOC and more. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Ras KassSoul On Ice ... LP
Priority, 1996. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... $24.99 26.99
The debut of Ras Kass – kind of a watershed mark of the intellectual/complicated rhyme style for the mid 90s era, if you will – finding the west coast MC bursting out of the starting gates with some his best ever work! Includes all of the early singles and some classic level deeper album cuts. Rhymes wise, it's one of the finer albums on Priority around that time – really delivering some tough, intricate rhymes that rival some of best in the game. 13 tracks in all, including the ambitious 7+ minute "Nature Of The Threat", On Earth As It Is...", "The Evil That Men Do", "Drama", "Sonset", "If/Then", "Reelishymn", "Miami Life", "Soul On Ice" and more. ✨✧ Ice CubeAmeriKKKa's Most Wanted ... LP
Priority, 1990. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The solo debut masterpiece from Ice Cube – who links with Bomb Squad for the incredible production! When Ice Cube left NWA he took a lot of the more sobering lyrical aspects of that landmark crew with him, and with the addition of the Bomb Squad's cut & paste rhythms and jackhammer funk, and a bit of new ally Chuck D's social muckraking skills, he created one of the greatest hip hop albums of the 90s. Ice Cube at his solo peak! Features the unbeatable title track, "A Gangsta's Fairytale", "Better Off Dead", "Endangered Species" with Chuck D, "Turn Off The Radio", "Who's The Mack?", "To Come Here", "Once Upon A Time In The Projects" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has some ring and edge wear, a small piece of clear tape on the bottom seam, and is bent a bit at the corners.)

✨✧ Ice CubeLethal Injection ... LP
Priority, 1993. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A sharp, angry salvo from Ice Cube! Cube's early 90s solo style was firmly established at this point, so Lethal Injection doesn't have the acknowledged classic status of his previous couple albums, but he's still close to his prime that it's well worth your dollar! As you'd guess from the title, he's still pretty angry – the reasons for that permanent scowl he wore at the time are all over the place, as is the firm Lench Mob production. Tracks include "Really Doe", "Ghetto Bird", "Bop Gun (One Nation)" featuring George Clinton, "What Can I Do?", "Make It Ruff, Make It Smooth" featuring K-Dee, "Down For Whatever", "Enemy", "When I Get To Heaven", and more.
