✨✧ VariousBoogaloo Pow Wow – Dancefloor Rendez-Vous In Young Nuyorica ... LP
Honest Jons (UK), 1960s/Early 70s. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Amazing Latin grooves from the New York scene of the 60s – and a set that goes way past the obvious to collect tracks from a range of different labels! Unlike other collections of Latin Soul and boogaloo, which are always heavy on entries from the Fania catalog, this set features much more obscure numbers that were issued on a variety of different imprints back in the day – usually numbers that represent the harder, rougher side of the boogaloo scene – and which often include a fair bit of jazzy touches too! There's a really fresh sense of discovery here – and our hats are off once again to Honest Jons for another excellent collection! Titles inlcude "Cool Jerk" by Kako, "Tanga" by Machito, "Descarga Cachao" by Tito Rodriguez, "No Me Dejes" by La Playa Sextet, "Trinidad" by Willie Bobo, "Aqui Voy Yo" by Bobby Paunetto, "Cool" by Rene Grand, "Feelin The Pain" by Dianne & Carole, "Shining Knight" by Willie Rosario, "Fuego Y Pa'Lante" by Ray Barretto, and "Descarga" by Chuito Velez. ✨✧ ESGESG ... CD
Pow Wow, 1991. Used ... Just Sold Out!
A wild cool album made by the once obscure, now legenday group! The ESG album was the group's long, long, long awaited return to the format after is filled with wild percussion tracks, occasional crazy vocals, and a sound that influenced abstract beatmakers, leftfield dancefloor gurus, and post rock acts alike! After ESG's early 80s classic, business and label dramas made it difficult for them to work as a steady concern, but this 1991 album with some classic 12" tracks and later material helped cement their reputation. Dennis BovellDubmaster – The Essential Anthology ... CD
Trojan (UK), Late 70s/1980s/1990s. New Copy 2CDs ... $17.99 19.98
A massive tribute to the long career of Dennis Bovell – the British artist who first rose up in the late 70s group Matumbi, then went on to share his production talents with a host of other artists in the decades that followed! This double-length set brings together a career-spanning set of tracks that all were handled by Bovell – a first half that features his own recordings under a number of groups, and a second half that features Bovell production and studio work with a range of other artists too – including some rare and unissued material, in a package put together by Dennis himself! Titles include the Bovell cuts "Run Rasta Run" with African Stone, "Come With Me" as Dennis Curtis, "The Grunwick Affair" and "Za Lon" with 4th Street Orchestra, "Blood Ah Go Run/Blood Dem (12" mix)" by Matumbi, and cuts "Brain Damage", "Chief Inspector", "Dub Master", "Silly Dub", "Caught You In A Lie", "After Tonight (acoustic version)", "Raindrops", "Eye Water", and "Pow Wow" – all issued under Bovell's name. The second half features titles that include "African Queen" by Errol Campbell, "Africa Is Our Land" by Joshua Moses, "Take Five" by Young Lions, "Portrait Of You" by Gladwin Wright, "Hooked On You" by Delroy Wilson, "Cry" by Angelique, "A Little Way Different/Differentah (12" mix)" by Errol Dunkley with Julio Finn, "Silly Games" by Janet Kay, "Get Up Stand Up" by I Roy, and "Positive Vibrations" by Pebbles. Lou ReedLegendary Hearts ... CD
RCA (Germany), 1983. Used ... $6.99
Remarkably strong stuff from Lou Reed in the early 80s – even if it's somewhat overlooked in his canon! As he was often doing in the period, it's fairly straight-forward rock & roll – which may have been something of a sly rebellion at a time when many of his late 60s and 70s peers were tripping over themselves to modernize and dive headlong into drum machines and synths. No skews towards timelessness, and with Robert Quine playing guitar, it's pretty great! Includes "Legendary Hearts", "Don't Talk To Me About Work", "Pow Wow", "Betrayed"m "Rooftop Garden", "Home Of The Brave" and more. CD

✨✧ MoondogElpmas ... CD
Kopf (Germany), 1991. Used ... Out Of Stock
Lovely later work from Moondog – a set of simple instrumental tunes that almost has the same naive charm as his initial recordings in the 50s! There's definitely a bit of avant classical going on at times – use of violin, viola, and oboe – but other instrumentation is spare and often somewhat percussive – recalling the minimal, elliptical rhythms that Moondog first set on fire while living on the streets of New York during the postwar years. There's a bit of vocalization on the record, and some keyboards too – and many of the tunes have a poetic feel that really fits their titles – tunes that include "Cosmic Meditation", "Fujiyama", "Bird Of Paradise", "Marimba Mondo 1 – The Rain Forest", "Suite Equestria", and "Wind River Powwow". CD
