PossessedSeven Churches (green vinyl pressing) ... LP
Century Media, 1985. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $29.99
The hugely influential debut of Possessed – and a major metal milestone! Hard rock and heavy metal bands from mainstream heroes to underground genre heavies dabbled with devilish lyrics and paired the sounds of lumbering heaviness and lightning speed before, but Possessed break so much sacred ground here in pushing those sounds forward. This one is oft-cited as the first death metal album and it'd be hard to argue there were many forbears! Includes "The Exorcist" (complete with the "Tubular Bells" inspired intro), "Pentagram", "Burning In Hell", "Evil Warriors", "Fallen Angel" and the genre-inspiring closer "Death Metal". LP, Vinyl record album
(RSD Essentials pressing. Quantities pressed on demand and strictly limited!)

PrincePrince & The Revolution Live (2CD & Blu-ray) ... CD
Legacy, 1985. New Copy 2CD & Blu-ray ... $37.99 41.99
A long-overdue audio presentation of the famous performance that was captured in 1985, and used in the concert film of the same name – brought together here as an audio release that stands as a tremendous document to the strength of Prince and his famous group of the time! This is the fantastic lineup that features Wendy & Lisa, who helped Prince hit a whole new level of grooviness – a blend of funk, soul, and rock touches that takes the Purple Rain sound to a much richer dimension in the setting of the arena! The performance was recorded at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on March 30, 1985 – and the core set features 20 tracks that include "Let's Go Crazy", "1999", "God", "Computer Blue", "Darling Nikki", "International Lover", "Possessed", "Do Me Baby", "Irresistible Bitch", "Little Red Corvette", "I Would Die 4 U", and "Delirious" – plus extended jams that include an 11 minute version of "Baby I'm A Star", a 9 minute version of "When Doves Cry", and a 19 minute version of "Purple Rain"! Jack SelsJack Sels – Minor Works (with bonus download) ... LP
Sdban (Belgium), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $31.99 32.99
Tenorist Jack Sels may not be one of the best-known names on the European jazz scene of the postwar years – but that's likely because he passed away earlier than most, but not before leaving a strong legacy of jazz on the Belgian scene! Sels is a hell of a player – modern in conception, but possessed with a wonderfully soulful tone – one that goes deeper than some of the other European modernists of the period, and which has as much of a sense of Jack's person in the music as it does his overall vision for the sound. This package might be the first that most of us on this side of the Atlantic have experienced his work – and it's a wonderfully-done set that lives up to the quality of the other Belgian funk and jazz sets on this excellent label – with great song choices and very detailed notes. Sels plays with some of his own groups, but also with Lucky Thompson on tenor, Philip Catherine on guitar and Lou Bennett on organ, and also as part of the Saxorama group. Titles include"Zonky", "Gemini", "Dong", "Tchack Tchak", "La Campimania", "African Dance", "Blue Triptichon", "Rain On The Grand Place", "Spanish Lady", "Ginger", and "Night In Tunisia". ✨✧ Ruby AndrewsEverybody Saw You ... CD
Zodiac/Everland (Austria), 1970. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of the greatest female soul records ever to come from Chicago – a killer set of work from the legendary Ruby Andrews! Ruby's a hell of a talent that should have been huge at a national level – possessed with a deep soul style that matched the best from Betty Lavette or Mavis Staples, but often set up in more sophisticated arrangements too – in a mode that worked perfectly in a "double-edged sword" model that was often employed by other Chicago singers, like Barbara Acklin or Patty Drew. The album was issued as a follow-up to Ruby's massive cut "Casanova", which is a perfect example of this style – with Ruby's raw vocals over the top, some loping string arrangements underneath, and the whole thing working perfectly together in an amazing blend of styles! The whole album's incredibly strong, and other tracks include "Casanova 70", "You Made A Believer Out Of Me", "Tit For Tat", and "Can You Get Away". CD

✨✧ StylisticsFabulous ... LP
H&L, 1976. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
Seems like The Stylistics were recording a new album every few months at this point – and thankfully, through all that work they still managed to come up with a few great numbers now and then! This album's a great example of that fact – not as all-solid as their first few, but still possessed of some nice harmony soul tracks that showcase the falsetto lead of Russell Thompkins Jr. Horace Ott and Van McCoy handled the arrangements – and the best numbers have a fuller, almost heavier sound that's like some of the many crossover vocal groups who sprung up in the wake of The Stylistics' early fame. Titles include "You Ought To Be With Me", "It's So Good", "Baby Don't Change Your Mind", "I Will Love You Always", "Because I Love You Girl", and "Maybe It's Because You're Lonely".
