Whatnauts —
On The Rocks ... LP Stang/Playoff (France), 1972. New Copy (reissue)...

Heavenly harmony soul – the fantastic third album by The Whatnauts – maybe our favorite group of the early 70s east coast scene, and that's saying a lot, given that these guys were contemporaries of The Stylistics, Delfonics, and other super-important acts! Yet despite the greatness of those other groups, the Whatnauts have a sound that's very much their own – sweet, but with an edge, and maybe an undercurrent of toughness too – all given this wonderfully fragile production from New Jersey soul genius George Kerr, who also wrote most of the tracks on the record too. The record has a great mix of heavy soul tracks – like "Only People Can Save The World" and "Why Can't People Be Colors Too?" – plus some great mellow ballads, like "You Forget Too Easy", "Blues Fly Away", and "I'm So Glad I Found You". LP, Vinyl record album
