One of the strangest records you'll ever buy! Even on our storied pages this one's a bit of anoddball to describe – kind of a sound play of words, songs, noises, and lots of odd effects – an effort of classic rock proportions, but the brainchild of Lol Creme and Kevin Godley after their departure from pop group 10CC. It's nearly impossible to believe how a record like this got made – especially in the year that punk was taking over the British record industry – but the fact that it became an instant cutout may say a lot about its ill-chosen release. Whatever that history, though, the album's a near-legendary one now – some where between Ivor Cutler-esque sound poetry and some of the weirder pop of British mid 70s groups. Peter Cook wrote and performed all the spoken bits on the record, and Sarah Vaughan even makes a guest appearance! LP, Vinyl record album
(US pressing, with booklet and inner sleeves! Box has a cut corner and some light weare – but this is a very nice copy overall.)

Dinah Washington —
Dinah Jams ... CD EmArcy/Phonogram, 1954. Used ...
Out Of Stock
One of the best jazz-based sessions recorded by Dinah Washington in the 50s – appropriately titled Dinah Jams, which is a pretty good reference to the feeling of the set! The sessions were recorded in a relatively relaxed, intimate feel – not necessarily as unbridled as a true jam session might be, but with a lot more interplay between the instrumentalists in the group than you might get on a typical 50s jazz session. And with horn players that include Cliford Brown, Harold Land, and Herb Geller – alongside rhythm by Junior Mance, Richie Powell, and Max Roach – you'd have to expect that there'd be some good interplay on the set! Titles include "I've Got You Under My Skin", "No More", "Darn That Dream", "You Go To My Head", and a nice open-ended version of "I'll Remember April"! CD
A treasure trove of rare work from the 40s – 21LPs of music from the legendary Keynote label, all pressed on super-nice Japanese vinyl! The set also features 115 performances presented here for the first time ever – and comes with a great booklet, a Keynote photo album, and even a unique one-sided Lennie Tristano 45! LP, Vinyl record album
(Original numbered pressing, with obi, in white outside printed packaging box with handle. Includes everything – book, photo book, and rare Lennie Tristano 45! White outside box has some light aging near top, but is in great shape.)
A strong 50s session from Gerry – a bit like some of his work for the Pacific Jazz label, but perhaps a bit more biting and modern. The group's a sextet with Jon Eardley on trumpet, Zoot Sims on tenor, Dave Bailey on drums, Bob Brookmeyer on trombone, and Peck Morrison on bass – and titles include "Nights At The Turntable", "Mud Bug", "Bernie's Tune", and "Apple Core". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono Japanese Phonogram pressing – EXPR-1003. Cover has a cutout notch and light ring wear.)
On this single, it's the mellow cut that's the great one! "Heaven Must Be Like This" is one of the best spacey soul tracks ever recorded – a sweet and mellow groover that's shortened here for the 7" release, but which still moves along with a depth you wouldn't expect. The track's a great one to trip on back to – and drift away to the clouds on a breezy summer day! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Still in an Phonogram sleeve, with a small number in pen. Includes jukebox strips.)
Ahhhh . . . . Great stuff! We like "Sweet Sticky Thing" as much as any of the heavy funk tracks by Ohio Players – in fact, maybe even better, as the tune's got a slow finish that makes for a really compelling groove, one that shows that the group had a lot more depth than you might remember! 7-inch, Vinyl record
