Lee Konitz & Space Jazz Trio —
Blew ... CD Philology (Italy), 1988. Used ...
Temporarily Out Of Stock
Don't let the name put you off, as The Space Jazz Trio's a pretty straightforward little group – hardly the electric outfit you might expect, and instead a solid acoustic trio who provide some great grounding here for Lee Konitz! The trio's headed by pianist Enrico Pieranunzi, whose warm tones and lyrical lines push Lee into some mighty nice territory – bits that are sometimes boppish, but often more sensitively expressive – in ways that have the alto of Konitz snaking out beautifully, always with that great tone that we've loved since his earliest recordings. Titles include "Blew", "Friendlee", "From E To C", "The Man I Love", "Cool Blues", and "Lost & Found". CD
A great indie set from the early years of the gangsta scene – a record that was maybe overlooked a bit at the time, and which maybe was trying a bit too hard with its posed cover image – but which, after the passage of years, has this great sort of upfront, earnest approach to the material that makes the whole thing surprisingly endearing! Awesome Dre produces himself here – working with fast rhymes over hyped-up beats – on titles that include "Murder One", "Executioner Style", "Master Of Philology", "Killer On Wax", "Committing Rhymes", and "You Can't Hold Me Back".
