Peabo BrysonDon't Play With Fire ... CD
Capitol/PTG (Netherlands), 1982. New Copy ... $11.99
Tremendous work from Peabo Bryson – and a record that really has him coming on strong, and staying long! Bryson's vocals are sublime – rooted in gospel depth, but turned towards some warmer secular modes – all wrapped up in a style that's tight, but never slick – perfect production by Peabo himself, with a care and sensitivity that's quite different than some of his later, clunkier work. Bryson is still a mighty fresh talent at this point in his career – glowing with an inner light that really shines through – on tracks that include "Go For It", "We Don't Have To Talk", "Turn It On", "Words", "Let Me Be The One You Need", "Give Me Your Love", and "Don't Play With Fire". Peabo BrysonI Am Love ... CD
Capitol/Vinyl Masterpiece (Netherlands), 1981. Used ... $14.99
A sweet solo set from Peabo Bryson – part of his excellent run of records for Capitol, and an album that features great production from the legendary Johnny Pate! Peabo's got this great way of being mellow and masculine, but without ever sounding too cliched – at a level that makes a record like this a lot more compelling than some of his crossover duets of the time. And Pate's thrown in a few more upbeat moments amidst the laidback, slow-stepping tracks that were always Bryson's best stock in trade – although we still love the mellow moments the best! Titles include "Split Decision", "Impossible", "You", "Get Ready To Cry", "Love Is On The Rise", "Let The Feeling Flow", "There's No Guarantee", and "Move Your Body". CD

Peabo BrysonParadise ... CD
Capitol/PTG (Netherlands), 1980. New Copy ... $11.99
Maybe the greatest record ever from Peabo Bryson – a wonderfully smooth set that features help on production and arrangements from the great Johnny Pate! Pate brings a groove that's got all the warm, sophisticated touches he developed while working on the Chicago scene – a bit of a jazz undercurrent, which really hips things up a lot – and helps give an instrumental setting that's rich enough to match Peabo's really sublime vocals! The blend of everything here is perfect all the way through – at a level that has Bryson really hitting new heights, and steering clear of any later cliches as well. Titles include "Love Has No Shame", "I Love The Way You Love", "Paradise", "Love In Every Eason", "Life Is A Child", "When Will I Learn", and "I Believe In You". CD

Peabo BrysonPositive ... CD
Elektra/Wounded Bird, 1988. New Copy ... $6.99 11.98
Peabo Bryson in prime pop soul years – a time when he was really crossing over big, thanks to a strong ear for the mainstream market! Bryson's as positive and confident here as you might guess from the title – a master balladeer in the smoother soul mode – still with that incredible range in his voice, but also a bit more concerned with the softer, more intimate side of his vocal powers. Regina Belle duets with Peabo on the track "Without You" – which was penned by Lamont Dozier – and other titles include "Positive", "Come On Over Tonight", "I Want To Know", "Tonight", "When We Need It Bad", "Hurt", and "This Time Around". ✨✧ Minnie RipertonLove Lives Forever ... LP
Capitol, 1980. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
The last album ever from the amazing Minnie Riperton – and one of her greatest records as well! The album was sadly issued after Minnie's untimely early passing from this planet – but it's a heavenly batch of tunes that definitely shows that her love of music lives forever – thanks not only to a strong talent for songwriting and sublime production from husband Richard Rudolph – but also some important help from a variety of all-star guests who are all brought together out of deep affection for Minnie. George Benson, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Roberta Flack, Patrice Rushen, Peabo Bryson and others all make key appearances here – working with arrangements from Johnny Pate, and vocals the Minnie recorded for the record before its completion. Titles include the perennial favorite "Here We Go" – easily one of Minnie's greatest tunes ever – plus "I'm In Love Again", "You Take My Breath Away", "Strange Affair", "Island In The Sun", and " The Song Of Life (La-La-La)". LP, Vinyl record album
