George BensonErotic Moods ... LP
Paul Winley, Early 70s/1978. Near Mint- ... $29.99
Wild and mysterious stuff! This album is sort of a repackaged version of the legendary Harlem Underground album – a great lost funk album from the mid-70s that listed George Benson as a player in the group, but one that Benson claims that he never played on! The time of this release coincided with Benson's big hit years in the 70s – so the package is a bit of a cash-in project – but the grooves here are a lot harder-hitting than anything George recorded for Warner or Columbia – really gritty funk that's totally great throughout! Other players include Dave Baby Cortez on organ, Reuben Wilson on keyboards, and Willis Jackson on tenor – and Ann Winley sings on one track, the great "Fed Up", which has a really bad-rapping feel! Other titles include the classic break track "Smokin' Cheeba Cheeba" – plus a few smokin' organ/guitar wailers, like "Loose Joints" and "Overture Erotic", both of which are nice enough to warrant this separate release! Other tracks include "Erotic Moods" and "Sweet Taste Of Love". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing with RFJ etch. Cover has some ringwear, edge wear, and a light stain at the bottom right corner.)

Paul Winley/Traffic, 1976/1996. New Copy ... $7.99 16.98
A legendary album – and for good reason too – a set that's as mysterious as it is funky, and a record that's stayed at the top of our crates for years! The album features a really unusual collective of musicians, pulled together under the guidance of producer Paul Winley – a group that features George Benson on guitar, Dave Baby Cortez on organ, Willis Jackson on tenor sax, and Earl Williams on some massively funky drums! The music's a mix of funky jazz and gritty soul – put together with some really weird studio touches – including an uncredited male voice that comes in and out of the tracks, bad-rapping along with some very hip commentary. Ann Winley sings the female vocals on the set – often egged on by the dude – but the real charm of the record lies at the bottom – the wicked drums, funky basslines, and choppy instrumental bits that have gotten the set sampled plenty over the years. Titles include the classic "Smokin Cheeba Cheeba" alone, the groovy "Finger In It", a great breakbeat version of "Ain't No Sunshine" with a tenor solo by Willis Jackson, and the slow bluesy talking cut "Fed Up", a baaaad rap about a couple splitting up – done here in both vocal and instrumental versions. CD
(In a very cool Japanese-styled, LP-like cardboard sleeve cover!)

Paul Winley, 1963. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An essential document of one of Malcolm's most important messages – recorded live in Detroit, November 1963. The sound quality is great, and the speech is a wonderful example of Malcolm's tremendous ability to present the issues in a clear, concise manner – leaving no room for argument as he puts his ideas over with uncanny reason. ✨✧ Jimmy CastorFrom The Roots ... LP
Paul Winley, 1969. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
Killer early soul from Jimmy Castor – material that's mostly from the years before his better-known Smash Records and RCA sides – done in a wickedly-grooving style! The work here is a mix of upbeat dancefloor numbers and mellower harmony cuts – and even at this early stage, Castor's clearly a powerhouse in soul – really able to get his bag together, and deliver a tune with a tightness that's totally great – especially given that the Winley Records production still keeps an edge in the music that's plenty darn raw! There's plenty of charm, and a great sense of variety in the tunes – and titles include "Poor Loser", "Block Party", "Soul Sister", "Rattle Snake", "It's OK", "A Dream Affair", "Oh Susanna", and "Hangin Out".
