A big collection of tracks from a time when the British scene was starting to get mean and lean – when the world of punk was separating from the mainstream a bit more before – pushing deeper in a range of cultural and political modes, and hardly the kind of chart-possible work that was first coming out in the late 70s! There's still a few elements here of the old days, and a number of groups that might also resonate a bit with post-punk material – but the set's brimming over with plenty of oi and new hardcore energy – a similar shift to what was taking place on America's west coast scene at the same moment. The box has a big booklet of notes on the artists and the moment – and the set contains a total of 75 tracks in all, with work from The Exploited, Blitz, Chelsea, Cockney Rejects, Demob,
Partisans, Dark, Xtraverts, Knox, Outcasts, Vice Squad, Toy Dolls, Subhumans, The Boys, Skodas, Membranes, Nuclear Socketts, The Aces, Erazerhead, The Tarts, Revillos, Salford Jets, Abrasive Wheels, Charge, Rudi, The Nips, Varukers, Product, The Business, TV Smith's Explorers, and many others.
