Bembeya Jazz NationalSyliphone Years ... CD
Sterns (UK), 1960s/1970s. Used 2 CDs ... $19.99
An awe-inspiring mother lode of classic Guinean grooves from one of Africa's greatest bands! Senegal's Orchestra Baobab have become the media favorite of Africa's golden era, but it only takes one spin of this fabulous anthology to realize that Bembeya Jazz National were as good as any band the continent ever produced. As the title says, this material is culled from the recordings the band made for the great state-owned Syliphone label, and it reflects an era of dazzling creative potency – sensual Afro-Cuban tropes are blended into a powerful mix of Mande melodies, sashaying grooves, and jaw-dropping solos. Most of this collection features lead vocals by the sweet and soulful Aboubacar Demba Camara, who died in a tragic car accident in 1973, while the prodigiously talented Sekou "Diamond Fingers" Diabate unspools one astonishing lead after another. A still-powerful version of the group reunited in 2001, but nothing can match these recordings. Truly essential stuff! Tracks include "Dembaty Galant", "Waraba", "Super Tentemba", "Fatoumata", and "Sina Mousso". CD

National LampoonRadio Dinner ... LP
Blue Thumb, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $1.99
Great work from the classic days of the National Lampoon Radio Hour – a really wonderful show that ran on FM radio, and parodied many of the ideals and themes of the post-hippie generation! The work here is done in an underground hip mode that would show up more strongly in the mainstream on Saturday Night Live a few years later – and the only big name in the cast for this record is Christopher Guest, although the set does include a few surprise appearances by Melissa Manchester. Titles include "Concert In Bangla Desh", "Those Fabulous Sixties", "Clue Number Five", "Deteriorata", "Catch It & You Keep It", "Pigeons", and "Magical Misery Tour". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Michael Nesmith & The First National BandNevada Fighter ... LP
RCA, 1970. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Mike Nesmith is letting his hair grow a bit on the cover of this third album with his First National Band – and he also seems to be opening up his sound a bit, too – firmly flowing into the expansive country rock territory he opened up with the group's first two albums! Nesmith sometimes seems to have an even more confident lead vocal – partly through a stronger sense of twang – and while he's written more great tracks for this album, he also opens the door to handle work by Bobby Whitlock, Nilsson, and Mike Murphy too. Titles include "Here I Am", "Propinquity", "Grand Ennui", "Texas Morning", "Rene", and "Rainmaker". LP, Vinyl record album

Mighty SparrowSlave ... CD
National/Modern Harmonic, 1963. New Copy ... $9.99 14.99
A great 60s record from Mighty Sparrow – and the kind of set that shows just how different calypso music could sound when you got away from Harry Belafonte and the hits! The music here is every bit as political and socially conscious as earlier recordings of the genre – but you can also hear some of the cool 60s changes taking place on the Caribbean scene – including great use of horns to inflect most of the tunes with a great sort of edge – in the way Jamaican jazz and mento styles were shifting gears into rocksteady and ska! Sparrow's vocals have plenty of bite – and titles include "The Slave", "Calypso Twist", "Corbeau Sheltering Rain", "Popularity Contest", "Stupid Married Man", "Kennedy & Kruschev", and "Old Man & The Donkey". Tresor National (Canada), 1970. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A fantastic porn soundtrack from the Canadian scene at the start of the 70s – a wicked little record from the time when even a schlocky movie could be trusted to have some pretty great music in the mix! The styles here echo some of the modes in the Vampyros Lesbos world of Jess Franco films – funky drums, great organ lines, and plenty of trippy guitar – but there's also the added use of harmony vocals on a few cuts, with female singers who give the whole thing a warmly joyous quality, and really sets the whole thing apart from the rest! The record's got a great sense of variety, including some really cool distorted moog on one track – and titles include "Felicia Nova", "Emmene Moi", "Harizap", "Chanson Pour Candy", "Cago 9", "Sans Raison", "Ouvre Ton Ame", and "Je Ne T'Attendrai Pas". AtmosphereSeven's Travels (with bonus tracks & download) ... LP
Rhymesayers, 2003. New Copy 3LP (reissue)... $23.99 28.98
Atmosphere's signature sound full force – but also featuring some of their most experimental material to this point! Slug bounces along melodically, tortured and true to his nature, yet he comes off a little (just a little) more optimistic this time and he recites more than just tales of love lost. He STILL is at his tightest when weaving wonderful heart-wrenching stories instead of bragging, yet I don't think you hear the name Lucy once on this album. Sean Daley, the philosopher? – maybe we'll see more and more of that in the future. ANT's production is sounding much much better since God Loves Ugly – these beats pound just a little harder, seemingly influenced by punk and classic rock, thankfully without coming anywhere near classifiable rap rock. There still is a whole lotta soul in there, which is very nice, yet he still ain't afraid to pitch the formula, say sample some off kilter scatting or a ripping metal guitar. Tracks include "Bird Sings Why The Caged I Know", "Cats Van Bags", "National Disgrace", "Liquor Lyles Cool July". "Good Times", "Keys To Life Vs 15 Minutes Of Fame", "Reflections" and more. 2019 deluxe edition F Side bonus tracks: "Say Shh", "DMFD", "On The Battle Field", "Quiet Pimpin". LP, Vinyl record album

Gary BurtonGenuine Tong Funeral ... LP
RCA, 1968. Near Mint- ... $14.99
One of the most ambitious projects ever from vibist Gary Burton – an extended piece written by Carla Bley – and billed as "A Dark Opera Without Words"! The work has a feel that's much more fluid than opera, though – and is a great instrumental outing that not only features Gary's vibes at their youthful best, with support from his quartet – but which also includes extra work from Steve Lacy on soprano sax, Gato Barbieri on tenor, and Carla Bley herself on piano. The music is never too far out, but with angular tones and strange time changes that mark the record as being quite different from Gary's other sides for RCA. It also makes the record one of his best, too – as the set has that wonderfully fresh sound that you get from early work by Bley – never too silly, and with a serious approach to composition that also never loses sight of its roots in jazz. Titles include "The New Funeral March", "Silent Spring", "Mother Of The Dead Man", "Death Rolls", and "The New National Anthem". LP, Vinyl record album

Billed as "A Dark Opera Without Words", A Genuine Tong Funeral is an extended piece written by Carla Bley, and performed by the Burton quartet with help from a larger group that includes Steve Lacy, Gato Barbieri, Michael Mantler, and Bley herself. As such, the album's probably the most ambitious one that Burton ever recorded during the 60s – never too far out, but with angular tones and strange time changes that mark the record as being quite different from his other sides for RCA. It also makes it one of his best, too – as the record has that wonderfully fresh sound that you get from early work by Bley, never too silly, and with a serious approach to composition that also never loses sight of its roots in jazz. Leonard CohenThanks For The Dance ... CD
Columbia, 2019. New Copy ... $7.99 11.99
A much stronger posthumous release from the great Leonard Cohen than we were expecting – definitely up there with the last few albums of his lifetime, the best of which we honestly love as much as the late 60s classics! The charismatic speak-singing poetry on Thanks For The Dance is strong, so enchanting, and these late recordings put to haunting and spare backing by his son Adam are wonderful – in spirit, harking back to the sparest style of his most classic work. If you're a long time fan and were worried by the pre-release press about this one getting an assist from modern heroes and heroines like Beck, Feist and members of Arcade Fire & The National, Adam Cohen wisely keep Leonard's voice looming as large as ever – the guests never stepping out of his shadow. Include "Happens To The Heart", "The Night In Santiago", "Moving On", "Thanks For The Dance", "It's Torn", "The Goal", "Puppets", "The Hills" and "Listen To The Hummingbirds". CD

Burger, 1996. New Copy ... $18.99 19.99
Underheard mid 90s rap from the Memphis underground! It's hard to imagine how prescient or not Da Crime Click might've sounded at the time to anyone outside of their scene – few Memphis hip hop scene heavies had reached national or worldwide fame at this point – but in hindsight this crew's mix of raw, darkness-tinged nascent horrorcore mood and production mixed with this distinctively southern inner city rhyme style (which was then fresh and new) and thug rap lyricism sounds pretty far ahead of the curve. Includes the eerily hypnotic title track, "Deathwish", "Clicked Up Makin Gangz", "Smoke A Blunt Or Sumthin'", "Robbin' Spree", "No Remorse" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

Giant Step, 2002. Used ... $2.99
"Destined To Be A Modern Soul Classic" says the sticker on the front – and for once, they finally got it right! The album's the first-ever full length from Donnie – a brilliant young soul singer who's been bubbling out of the Atlanta scene over the past few years, and who has only issued a small number of singles so far. Donnie's voice and style are incredible – a sweetly-crafted approach to soul that's steeped in traditions that stretch back to 70s work by Donny Hathaway, Curtis Mayfield, and Marvin Gaye – and which resonate strongly with some of the better underground NuSoul singers of today. The full album shows a lot more depth to Donnie's work than we've even heard on the singles – with a really great mix of moods and modes, all handled to perfection with Donnie's incredible vocals! Harold Johnson SextetHouse On Elm Street ... LP
HME/Survival Research (Italy), 1967. New Copy (reissue)... $22.99
A fantastic soul jazz set from the 60s – one of the few ever cut by pianist Harold Johnson, and a record that brims over with youthful power and new ideas! The Harold Johnson Sextet were an incredible little LA soul jazz combo during the late 60s. Johnson was a very soulful pianist, and he had a heavy soul style that was similar to Ramsey Lewis' Cadet work – but which was also tinged with the lyricism of Horace Silver, and the emerging modal sound of Stanley Cowell. This first session by the group was originally issued on a small label, became a local hit, and was picked up by the Revue label for national distribution. It's got an incredible sound, and is very very catchy. The band features Johnson's piano in a very strong lead – plus flute, alto, and tenor. Billy Jackson plays a hard rolling conga behind the whole thing – and tracks include "House On Elm Street", "Watts '67", "Something Mellow", and "Yeah Uh Huh". LP, Vinyl record album

Really striking work from Kele – an artist who works in a space that's very much his own, but which follows in a strong British legacy of mashing up modes for political action – a trajectory that might start with Pop Group, and flow strongly through the Tricky and Portishead generation! As we say, Kele's very much his own man, and sounds nothing like those groups – but may well ascend in his own sort of genre-blending glory – spurred on by really creative combinations in the studio, and very pointed messages in his music! Eugene McDanielsOutlaw (red vinyl pressing) ... LP
Atlantic/Real Gone, 1970. New Copy (reissue)... $24.99 25.99
An incredible step forward for 60s soul singer Gene McDaniels – so much so, that most folks hearing this album can't believe he's the same guy who recorded for Liberty Records a few years before! The album's incredibly righteous right from the start – and has a genre-busting quality that isn't quite soul, but isn't rock or anything else either – and instead, the kind of progressive, "years ahead of its time" sort of set that guys like David Axelrod were cutting in the same stretch. Apart from the title, the whole record's got a strong political message that's probably best embodied in the statement on the back – "Under conditions of national emergency, like now, there are only two kinds of people – those who work for freedom, and those who do not – the good guys vs the bad guys". With words like that, you can definitely bet that Eugene is on the side of the good guys – really pushing a social agenda with some wonderfully-penned tunes on the album – set to cool musical backdrops from the equally-righteous William S Fischer. Titles include "Love Letter To America", "Black Boy", "Outlaw", and "Sagittarius Red". LP, Vinyl record album

A girls fiesta that's swimming in dub – presented here by the legendary Ranking Dread – easily one of he most badass performers in reggae at the time! The record features some amazing production from Linval Thompson, who's really at the top of his game here – providing Dread with these deep-stepping, head-nodding sounds that are a perfect fit for the power of his lyrics. And despite the "party" sound of the title, the album's got some very deep political elements – very much like Ranking Dread himself at the time. Titles include "Natty Dread Is A Struggler", "Poor Man", "Africa", "Natty On The Rock/Death Trap", "Marijuana Soul", and "Kilburn Lane". CD reissue is great – and features detailed notes on Ranking Dread, his political activities, and time on the lam across national boundaries! CD

Royal FlushHot Spot (with bonus tracks) ... CD
GEC/P-Vine (Japan), 1980. New Copy ... $19.99
A rare funky gem from the Chicago scene in the pre-house years – but a set that also might be a crucial bridge between the city's 70s soul and the underground clubs that would soon give the world a new groove! The group have plenty of funk elements in the mix – kind of a tightened-up version of P-Funk at times, with lots of bass in the mix – and all these cool moogy keyboard touches – topped by vocals from the group – who often have a call to action sort of vibe, really urging on the groove! The record's definitely too hardcore to have gotten much national radio play – sharper and more wicked than the major label funk of the time – and the use of female vocals in the mix also have a very different vibe than in disco, too – a quality that's hard to describe, but which really stands out. The set features some arrangements by Floyd Morris and Tom Tom 84 – two mighty legends in the Chicago soul scene – and titles include "Doin' It To Def", which has sort of a "We Will Rock You" intro, plus "Hot Spot", "Grab Your Sexy Baby", and "Funk Power". CD features three bonus tracks by the related Jerline & Friends (Jerline Shelton is one of the singers in Royal Flush) – titles that include "Tell Me How Long", "We Need Each Other", and "Got To Let You Know". Numero Group does it again – and manages to pull together all the best bits from the crucially overlooked powerpop scene in the Land Of Lincoln – a wealth of wonderful groups from the 70s and 80s, all of whom recorded great indie sounds in Illinois! Sure, you've heard of Cheap Trick, and maybe The Kind – but Illinois was also home to handfuls of other great groups – many of whom never found national fame, due to lack of access to the kind of A&R that groups on the coast were getting. The sound here is wonderful – razor sharp guitars, super-tight drums, and tuneful lyrics that still burst forth with plenty of power – a great reminder that not all the hot energy of the late 70s was going into punk rock. As usual, Numero's overdone themselves with the package – lots of info on the groups, and the kind of stylish package that even goes way beyond most of the original records too. Titles include "At Practice" by Band Jocks, "Get Away" by Julian Leal, "I Wanna Make You" by Prettyboys, "Midnight Girls" by Eyz, "Where Are You Now" by Tom Orsi, "More & More" by Lay Z, "See You Tonight" by Contra-Band, "Kyle" by Loose Lips, "Total Insanity" by The Kind, "So Lifelike" by The Jerks, and "I Have Always Loved You" by Paul. VariousCoxone's Music 2 – The Sound Of Young Jamaica - More Early Cuts From The Vaults Of Studio One 1959 to 1963 ... CD
Soul Jazz (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. Used 2 CDs ... $11.99
A fantastic overview of sounds from the Jamaican scene in the years before rocksteady and ska really took off – most of them from the hands of groundbreaking producer Clement "Coxone" Dodd – later the driving force behind Studio One! In these early years, Dodd already had very close ties to the local scene – first as a DJ who was bringing in underground R&B sides from the US, to play on his 50s soundsystem – and also as a record store owner, with a very strong ear for new talent! Yet although Dodd's later sounds have been really well documented, these earliest recordings are perhaps even more amazing – as they showcase a really great range of styles, and present a Jamaican musical world in which the new ideas were just getting started, and taking on modes that sometimes feel very American, other times feel as if they're in a very individual space that doesn't even have any ska or blue beat touches. There's even a bit of jazz in the mix at times, which is great – and throughout the collection's 41 titles, there's an undeniable richness of Jamaican talent that would have already been huge, even if the scene didn't explode in later years. Titles include "More Proof" by Clancy Eccles, "Get Drunk" by Owen Gray, "Jerk Pork" by Roland Alphonso & His Alley Cats, "Cuban Blockade" by Don Drummond, "Little Lady" by Theophilus Beckford with Clue J & His City Slickers, "Exodus" by Jazz Jamaica, Don't Do It" by Bunny & Scully, "Six & Seven Books Of Moses" by The Maytals, "Peanut Vendor" by Tommy McCook, "Mighty Man" by Higgs & Wilson, "Creation" by Lascelles Perkins, "Mr Propman" by Jazz Jamaica From The Workshop, "Light Of My Life" by Mellow Larks, and "Grand National" by Down Beat All Stars. Out-Sider (Spain), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... $13.99
The sound of the Louisville scene long before the years of Squirrel Bait and Slint – a treasure trove of underground work, most of it previously unissued – all of which documents a searing scene of psych and garage experimentation! There's a tightness to these tracks that's really surprising – these are under-done outtakes, but the kinds of cuts that should have been huge regional singles – had they been issued on labels from Texas or the Pacific Northwest – the kind of local psych gems that might have made some Louisville group bigger players on the national market. The set features notes on the recordings – all of which were done at the Allen/Martin Studio, and lay on tapes that were almost thrown away when it closed – rescued from obscurity, and presented here as a huge lost legacy in sound! Titles include "Earth & Sea" by The Oxfords, "Rats In My Room" by Blues, "Just Be You" by Illusions, "Blackbird" by Company Front, "Nothing Lasts Forever" by The Premieres, "Silly Girl" by JB & The Young Wheels, "Let The Music Play" by Brothers Pride, "Open Up" by Roc, and "Drink Your Wine" by Free Reign. BBE (UK), 2017. New Copy ... $8.99 19.99
Mad Mats is not only digging beyond the crates here, he's also digging beyond any conventional expectations you might have – as the set's got a unique vibe that may well make it one of the most compelling BBE compilations in years! The music is from the late 60s through the present – but it all comes together in a very future-sounding way – with rhythms that are often offbeat, electric elements that seem to crackle with independent energy, and vocals that can fall down in the mix one minute and burst forth the next! This isn't a dance music compilation, and it's also not a set of rare funk tracks either – and instead, Mats creates his own very personal journey in sound – heedless of time periods, genres, and often national boundaries. Titles include "Take A Stand" by Psalms, "Big Big Boss" by Johnny Moore, "Badly" by Cuthead, "Sherriff (Murlo rmx)" by Gappy Ranks, "Keep The Music Alive" by Yvonne Gray, "Evil Woman" by Bobby Hebb, "Jazz In Outer Space" by BSTC, "The Traveller" by Deft, "Space Based" by Mode M, "Don't Hold Back The Feeling (key trip dub)" by U N I, "Animations" by Intimate Disco, and "Jah I See You" by Ensemble Entendu. VariousSacred Soul – Dave Hamilton's Raw Detroit Gospel 1969 to 1974 ... CD
Kent (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... $12.99 18.99
The lost gospel music legacy of Detroit producer Dave Hamilton – a key force in funk and soul in the Motor City in the 60s – where he developed an amazing sound that he also brought to his spiritual recordings as well! Dave's approach was always grittier than that of Motown or some of the sweeter labels in the city – as you might have heard on some of the great Ace/Kent collections of his rare singles and unissued recordings over the years – all compilations that really lay the groundwork for this one, which is brimming over with raw gospel material from a very soulful stretch in the genre! The work here is like the hippest soul gospel recorded by Chess/Checker or Jewel/Paula at the same time – strongly associated with secular soul in terms of instrumentation, arrangements, and production – and graced with message-oriented lyrics that are perfect for the heady times of the late 60s and early 70s. Some of the tracks were issued on the Sacred Sounds label back in the day, and are mixed with some others found in Hamilton's archives – all given the usual great support by Ace with a big booklet of notes and photos. Titles include "Grown Old & Feeble" by The Soul Inspirers, "I Still Remember" by Umble Faith, "Someday We'll Be Together" by The National Independent Singers, "Savoir On The Throne" by Mr Bo, "Pressing On" by The Silver Harps, "I'm Not Ready To Die" by The Scott Singers, "Down Here Praying" by The Detroit Silvertones, "The Little Light" by The Fantastic Voices Of Joy, "I Heard A Voice (part 1)" by Sensational Angelettes, "If I Had My Way" by OC Tolbert & Clara White Houston, and "Life's Pathway" by Rev Evans. VariousSurrender To The Rhythm – The London Pub Rock Scene Of The 70s (3CD set) ... CD
Grapefruit (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy 3CD ... $24.99
A fantastic introduction to one of the most confusing British styles of the 70s – the huge pub rock moment that preceded punk, and which offered up a stripped-down approach to the music that helped set the scene for plenty of later changes to come! The name is a bit tricky to explain – much of these bands did play pubs and smaller venues, but they also represented a shift amidst the rising tide of arena rock and overblown concept albums – artists who were maybe getting back to basics with tight, sharp songcraft, and the kind of hooks that first made rock and roll so great in the first place – but also served up with all the sense of variety that had crept into the music from the start! There are a few big names that have always been associated with pub rock – but this set is the first we've seen to really showcase the true scope of the music – with 71 tracks in a nice slipcase with detailed notes - work by Chris Spedding, Moon, Legend, Wild Angels, Dr Feelgood, Flip City, Byzantium, Razorbacks, Chaz & Dave, Fox, Count Bishops, Mott The Hoople, Ducks Deluxe, Kiburn & The High Roads, National Flag, Jona Lewie, Roogalator, Deep Feeling, Status Quo, Steve Ellis, STray, The Pirats, Squeeze, Merton Parkas, Inmates, Ian Gomm, and many others! One of the greatest female soul records ever to come from Chicago – a killer set of work from the legendary Ruby Andrews! Ruby's a hell of a talent that should have been huge at a national level – possessed with a deep soul style that matched the best from Betty Lavette or Mavis Staples, but often set up in more sophisticated arrangements too – in a mode that worked perfectly in a "double-edged sword" model that was often employed by other Chicago singers, like Barbara Acklin or Patty Drew. The album was issued as a follow-up to Ruby's massive cut "Casanova", which is a perfect example of this style – with Ruby's raw vocals over the top, some loping string arrangements underneath, and the whole thing working perfectly together in an amazing blend of styles! The whole album's incredibly strong, and other tracks include "Casanova 70", "You Made A Believer Out Of Me", "Tit For Tat", and "Can You Get Away". CD

A much-needed look at the massive amount of music recorded in Kenya during the 70s and 80s – an incredibly fertile time for local culture in the nation – and a time when it seemed like there was a great new groove coming out nearly every day! The work here really rivals the best of the classic Soundway compilations – especially their strong surveys of Ghana and Nigeria, with an ear for grooves that go way beyond the usual mainstream sounds of world music! There's more than enough grit and funk here to please any fan of American funk and soul – but the sounds also go way way deeper, too – and echo not only a long Kenyan cultural heritage, but also reflect the unique place the nation had at the crossroads of East Africa – a site that often made the scene especially vibrant in these years. The presentation is superb – with detailed notes and wonderful imagery that includes vintage label scans – and titles include "Mu Africa" by The Rift Valley Brothers, "Wendo Ti Mbia" by Gatanga Boys Band, "Ware Wa" by The Loi Toki Tok, "Sweet Sweet Mbombo" by Orchestre Baba National, "Cha Umheja" by Afro 70, "See Serere" by Sophia Ben & The Eagles Lupopo, "Mutumia Muriu" by The Lulus Band, "Nzaumi" by Ndalani 77 Brothers, "Teresia" by Huruma Boys Band, and "Week End" by Afro 70. ✨✧ Albert BrooksStar Is Bought ... CD
Asylum/Wounded Bird, 1975. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A wonderfully hip comedy album from the early years of Albert Brooks – very much in the spirit of the LA Warner scene of which Brooks was a part! The album's set up as an "all format radio" record – and as such, also offers a great snapshot of mid 70s radio – with tracks that are attempts to cash in on the nostalgia, talk radio, classical, country, and other growing formats of the time. As such, the record's got some really great bits that show Brooks' off-kilter sense of humor strongly, in the same manner as early classic films like Real Life and True Love, and works in a genre-spanning style that's pretty darn great. Brooks really uses the format of the album as part of the comedy – he doesn't just tell jokes, but he works together in an overall mix of sound, music, and words – very similar to the best format of the early National Lampoon albums – which makes the whole thing as much of a masterpiece in audio creativity as it is a darn funny record! The set was co-written and produced with Harry Shearer, and Brooks gets help from Andrew Gold, Sid Feller, and a range of other LA jazz musicians – and routines include the great radio parody "Phone Calls From Americans", plus "The Albert Brooks Show 112", "The Beginning Of The End", "Near The Beginning", and "Party From Outer Space". A mighty nice set from Berkely Ike Jones – guitarist and one of the founders of the legendary Blo – working here in a groove that's a bit more Afro disco overall, but which still has all the great touches of his previous work! The music's plenty funky, but more in a clubby way than some of the more familiar Afro Funk modes you might know from the mid 70s – with lyrics in English, and an overall vibe that's like the best post-colonial work coming from the Paris and London scenes at the time! Part of the album was recorded in London, which may account for the vibe – and the instrumentation is tightly played, but never slick. There's definitely some politics in the mix, too – surprisingly righteous lyrics, on tunes that include "It's Time For Nation Building", "Calling Health Men/Police", "Tears In The Ghetto", "National Pledge", and "1979".
