✨✧ Dick MorrisseyIt's Morrissey Man! ... LP
Fontana (UK), 1961. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The brilliant debut LP of British tenorist Dick Morrissey – one of England's strongest players of the 60s, as you'll hear in this crackling set! The album features Morrissey working in a quartet – playing the tenor in a manner that's got all the liveliness and warmth of a player like Ronnie Scott or Tubby Hayes, but which also has a slightly angular quality in the tone, almost in the mode of some of the Tristano-ites, especially Warne Marsh. The writing is very inventive – and the tracks have a confident driving tone that's quite refreshing all the way through. Titles include "A Bench In The Park", "Sanctity", "Mildew", "Happy Feet", "Jellyroll", and "Gurney Was Here". LP, Vinyl record album
(Japanese 180 gram pressing in a flip-back cover, including the insert.)

SmithsMeat Is Murder ... LP
Sire/Rough Trade, 1985. Very Good ... $36.99
A stone classic from the team of Morrissey and Marr – a record that manages to wear its politics on its sleeve, yet still express things in a highly personal way! The balance is a key part of what made The Smiths go farther than just about all their 80s Brit indie contemporaries – and is what still keeps them going so many years later – not to mention great songwriting, haunting vocals, and some damn catchy guitar! Titles include "The Headmaster Ritual", "What She Said", "I Want The One I Can't Have", "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore", "Nowhere Fast", "Barbarism Begins At Home", and "Well I Wonder". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original US pressing with SRC stamp, including the printed inner sleeve.)

SmithsQueen Is Dead ... LP
Rough Trade/Sire, 1986. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $29.99
A triumphant third album from The Smiths – one that really focuses the energy of their previous sets, and helps them find a new sort of sonic perfection! Those haunting guitars are still in all the right places – as are Morrissey's heartfelt lyrics – but there's also a nice balance here between humor and honesty, which may well make the album the most appealing Smiths set to our ears! Titles include "The Queen Is Dead", "Never Had No One Ever", "Vicar In A Tutu", "Cemetery Gates", "Frankly Mr Shankly", and "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others". LP, Vinyl record album
(180 gram pressing on Rhino.)

Harry South Big BandHarry South Songbook ... LP
1960s (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... $28.99 29.99
An nice array of work from British pianist/bandleader/arranger Harry South – one of the most important large group talents of the late 50s, and an artist who helped shepherd British jazz through a range of stylistic periods – from straight big band of the postwar years, to mod moments in the 60s, to even some sound library-styled work near the end of this set! The range of musicians who worked with South on these tracks is incredible – almost a who's who of British jazz – as the set features work from some of the top talents of the scene at the time – either as leaders, or as sidemen on some of the dates. Titles include "Orient Line" by Tubby Hayes, "Liggin" by Joe Harriott, Slidin" by Ronnie Ross, "Minor Incident" by Dick Morrissey, and "Signing Out", "Raga (edit)", "Storm Warning", and "The Goblin" by Harry South himself. ✨✧ FeltPictorial Jackson Review ... LP
Creation/Cherry Red (UK), 1988. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Pure genius from a group who kept on growing strongly over the relatively short span of their career – maybe under-sung heroes at the time of their release, at least on this side of the Atlantic – but one of the few truly classic groups we can think of from the decade, at least with a recorded legacy this strong! The songs are as creatively distinct as anything every put forth by Morrissey and The Smiths – but in a very unique sort of way, with the guidance of mainman Lawrence firmly guiding the sound with his vocals amidst the wonderful songswirl of Hammond organ and guitar. Titles include "Apple Boutique", "Ivory Past", "Until The Fools Get Wise", "Bitter End", "How Spook Got Her Man", "Christopher Street", "Under A Pale Light", and "Don't Die On My Doorstep".
