✨✧ Jack McDuffMagnetic Feel ... LP
Cadet, 1975. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A very groovy 70s set from the mighty Jack McDuff – one that has him taking a bit of a Charles Earland turn, as he adds in some other keyboards to his work on Hammond – including some nice bits on Fender Rhode and moog! George Benson plays a fair bit of guitar solos on the set, and the record also features Pee Wee Ellis on alto and tenor, and Ray Mantilla on congas and percussion! Titles include some great long groovers – including "Blue Monsoon", "A Long Goodie", and a nice cover of "Don't Mess With Mister T". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Sonny StittMr Bojangles ... LP
Cadet, 1973. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Sweet 70s work from Sonny Stitt – quite different than his bop years, but with a smooth funky finish that puts it in the same territory as CTI or Kudu Records in the 70s! Sonny's getting full backing here – arrangements by Don Sebesky, who crafts some elegant and slinky sounds for the album's gently grooving tracks – and although the set's not a hard-edged funk effort, it's got the same mix of soul and jazz that you'd find in some of Stanley Turrentine's work of the time. Sonny Plays both alto and tenor, and Roland Hanna handles the electric piano. Highlights include the bouncy "Blue Monsoon", a nice mellow version of "The World Is A Ghetto", and the tracks "Got To Be There", "Fifty Per Cent", and "Ben". LP, Vinyl record album
(Orange label stereo pressing. Cover is bent a bit at the top seam.)

Rawkus, 2002. Near Mint- 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Once again, Talib Kweli delivers the goods, with thoughtful rhymes over tight, snappin' beats, and more than just a touch of soul to keep things nice! Guest appearances from Bilal, Black Thought, Mos Def, the Cocoa Brovaz, Pharoah Monche and Mos Def alongside production by the Soulquarians, Kanye West, DJ Quik, and Erik Krasno of Soulive (among others. . .) keep this long player fresh from start to finish. 15 tracks in all, including "Get by", "Shock Body", "Waitin For The DJ", "Talk To You", "Guerilla Monsoon Rap", "Put It In The Air", "The Proud" and "Where Do We Go". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has a cut corner.)

✨✧ Dengue FeverVenus On Earth ... LP
M80 Music, 2008. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Moody, kind of sultry and pulpy Cambodian rock, LA style – perhaps the best record yet from Dengue Fever! The backdrop of keys, horns, guitars, percussion and bass has never sound as measured, loose and assured as it does on Venus On Earth – with Chhom Nimol reminding us of the sweetness out front of the raucous, exuberant sounds of 60s underground Cambodian rock, and living up to that legacy quite well! Titles include "Seeing Hands", "Clipped Wings", "Tigher Phone Card", "Sober Driver", "Monsoon Of Perfume", "Integration", "Oceans Of Venus", "Tooth And Nail" and "Mr Orange". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Massive Attack & Mad ProfessorNo Protection ... CD
Circa (UK), 1995. Used ... Out Of Stock
Heavy dubs by the Mad Professor of Massive Attack's great Protection LP. The Professor takes the trip hop pioneer's album into uncharted territory with some great atmospheric dub renderings of the tracks. 8 tracks in all, including "Radiation Ruling The Nation (Protection)", "Bumper Ball Dub (Karmacoma)", "Trinity Dub (Three)", "Cool Monsoon (Weather Storm)", "Eternal Feedback (Sly)", "Moving Dub (Better Things)", "I Spy (Spying Glass)" and "Backward Sucking (Heat Miser)". ✨✧ Lucky ThompsonBack To The World ... LP
51 West, 1979. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Incredibly wonderful work from Lucky Thompson – a collection of tracks from his early 70s recordings for Groove Merchant – tunes done in a style that he hardly ever used again! The work is incredibly soulful – featuring Lucky on both tenor and soprano sax, blowing in a laidback and open-ended way that has traces of the 70s CTI sound, but in a much earthier style overall. Cedar Walton is on piano on all tracks – and about half the set (at least) features him on electric keys, really hitting some spacious notes that glide out into the grooves with the fluid feel of Lucky's great sax work. The whole thing's wonderful – filled with really groovy tracks that show a much more soulful side of Lucky's career than you'd expect from his 50s and 60s work. Titles include "Lazy Day", "Sun Out", "Monsoon", "Back To The World", and "Green Dolphin Street". LP, Vinyl record album
