An excellent album of hard bossa cuts – played by drummer Antonio Da Souza, aka
Miltinho – a player you might also know as
Milton Banana, from a great run of Brazilian bossa jazz albums in the 60s! The
Milton Banana Trio albums are all just done with piano and bass – but the approach here is a nice change – a group that features piano from Oscar Castro Neves, and some especially nice alto work from the great Leo Wright! The record's a prime example of the excellent style of
Banana, Joao Gilberto's favorite drummer – in that it's extremely lively, and all over the kit, with sort of a melodic drumming component that's perfect for bossa nova. Titles include "Influencia Da Jazz", "Bossa Nova Blues", "O Apito No Samba", "Boato", and "Nao Faz Assim".
