✨✧ Jack Nitzsche/Mick Jagger/Randy NewmanPerformance – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Warner, 1970. Used ... Out Of Stock
The jury is sometimes out on the Mick Jagger on-screen performance in the Nicolas Roeg film Performance – but the soundtrack is something pretty separate entirely, and really says a lot more about the spirit of late 60s Warner Brothers Records in LA than it does the arthouse cinema scene in England! The great Jack Nitzsche composed a number of instrumental tracks for the score – maybe his first time in this mode, and prefacing some later 70s successes to come – with titles that include "Rolls Royce & Acid", "Harry Flowers", and "Natural Magic". Other Warner talents get a hand in the music too – as Randy Newman conducted all of Nitzsche's charts, and also sings "Gone Dead Train" – while Ry Cooder delivers bottleneck solos on "Get Away" and "Powis Square". There's also some nice soul-based moments – the cut "Wake Up N*ggers" by The Last Poets, and "Poor White Hound Dog" and "Performance" by Merry Clayton. And yes, Mick does get to sing on one tune – the album's "Memo From Turner" – and the set is completed by Buffy St Marie work on "The Hashishin" and "Dead Dead Red". CD

✨✧ PP ArnoldFirst Lady Of Immediate ... LP
Immediate/Charly (UK), 1967. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A really beautiful debut from PP Arnold – the American soul singer who first really made her mark in England, thanks to some key support from The Rolling Stones and other 60s rockers! Despite the British nature of this record – and despite the fact that production is by Mick Jagger, Andrew Loog Oldham, and others – the sound here is almost in the best US soul mode of the 60s, with full arrangements and sweeping strings that remind us of some of the strongest New York uptown soul of the mid 60s! Titles include "If You Think You're Groovy", "Born To Be Together", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "Something Beautiful Happened", "Life Is But Nothing", "Speak To Me", and "Would You Believe". CD also features 3 bonus tracks – including a version of "Come Home Baby" sung as a duet with Rod Stewart! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Rolling StonesMiss You/Far Away Eyes (photo cover) ... 12-inch
Rolling Stones, 1978. Very Good (pic cover)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A club crossover classic from The Rolling Stones – a track that surprisingly got the group onto the dancefloor in the late 70s, but which still held onto most of their best elements! Although sometimes panned as a cheap disco cash-in effort by some, the tune is actually pretty darn great – a gritty little tune that relies on heavy vamping, rolled-out guitar parts, and one of the catchiest vocal hooks that Mick Jagger had sung in years. Harmonica completes the sound, and the whole thing's got a bluesy undercurrent that's totally great! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(UK pressing on pink vinyl, in the round corner cover, with edge wear, some light ring wear.)

✨✧ Dr JohnSun, Moon, & Herbs ... LP
Atco, 1971. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Dr John at the height of his powers – able to evoke his New Orleans roots, while reaching out to new currents of funk and soul – and opening the door to some famous guests too! A few years before, the Dr John persona of Mac Rebennack was something new – but by this early 70s point, the character had taken over completely – with a sense of mystical funky energy that really comes through on the set! And even though the record sports guest appearances from Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, PP Arnold, Graham Bond, and Doris Troy – it's clear that the man himself is always at the lead – creating his own sort of special magic on tunes that include "Craney Crow", "Black John The Conqueror", "Zu Zu Mamou", and "Pots On Fiyo", "Where Ya At Mule", and "Familiar Reality". LP, Vinyl record album
(2018 EU reissue on translucent red vinyl. Vinyl is clean but plays with light noise for a few spins at the end of "Familiar Reality - Opening".)

✨✧ JacksonsVictory ... LP
Epic, 1984. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Michael Jackson's last album with his famous family – a set of electric 80s soul that's a bit different than Jackson's well-known solo work! In a way, the later Jacksons albums almost feel like a place where Michael can try out some ideas that don't fit as tightly into the overall sound of his own records – and there's definitely more diversity here than before – a shift between gentle ballads, beat-heavy tunes, and even a few rockish/poppish moments. Of course, we should probably be crediting the other Jacksons for their help in the sound here too – as they're certainly credited on the cover – but there's also less of the "many parts as one" sound than before, so it's hard to tell how they're working together. Titles include "The Hurt", "Wait", "Torture", "One More Chance", "Body", "We Can Change The World", and "State Of Shock", the big single, which features a guest appearance by Mick Jagger. LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. A nice copy.)

✨✧ MadsMolesto ... CD
Lion/Repsychled, Late 1960s/Early 1970s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Rare and raw work from the Peruvian scene – a killer batch of tunes from Lima combo The Mads – late 60s studio numbers for the most part, plus two tracks recorded at a castle owned by Mick Jagger in 1971, captured on the Rolling Stones' mobile studio equipment! That actually makes some sense, given the buzzing, "Satisfaction" era swagger of some of the tunes here – that way that some of the best Peruvian acts have of hanging onto Brit modes from a few years before, while coming up with an unusual twist of their own! Vocals are in English and tracks include "If You Feel", "Fly Away", "Tumor Bossa", "Birds In My Tree", "Rock & Roll Woman", "Feels Like Love", "Aouh Aouh" and more – plus two bonus tracks, circa '67! CD
(Includes a booklet of notes, glossy photo foldout and replica show flyer!)

✨✧ Rolling StonesTattoo You ... LP
Rolling Stones, 1981. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
An album that some thought might mark the final years of The Rolling Stones – as it came out as Mick Jagger was reaching 40 – but one that instead marked a great rebirth of the group and its sound, and set a whole new standard for the group for years to come! The opening lick of the first track, "Start Me Up", has become one of The Stones trademark sonic fingerprints – and the whole thing keeps on moving strong, through titles that include "Hang Fire", "Slave", "Black Limousine", "Worried About You", "Waiting On A Friend", "No Use In Crying", "Tops", and "Little T & A". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing with Masterdisk stamp. Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has edge wear. Labels have a sticker.)

✨✧ Rolling StonesBeggars Banquet (50th Anniversary edition – 2 x SACD with bonus flexidisc) ... CD
London/Abkco (Japan), 1968. Used 2 SACD & Flexidisc ... Out Of Stock
One of the greatest albums ever from The Rolling Stones – a set that still draws on all the bluesy roots of their best 60s material, yet which also shows a sharper, nastier edge as well! The album shows the tremendous sense of focus and power the Stones had in this crucial late 60s stretch – a bold step forward that would give them some of their most memorable moments ever, launched by this sublime set of tracks that includes "Sympathy For The Devil", "Street Fighting Man", "Dear Doctor", "Parachute Woman", "Prodigal Son", "Factory Girl", and "Stray Cat Blues". This version comes with a great package created in Japan – a 7" gatefold that features both covers of the album, inserts, and a flexidisc that features a "Hello This Is Mick Jagger" interview from 1968! Second CD features the interview, and a rare mono mix of "Sympathy For The Devil". CD
