✨✧ Michel Legrand With Ray Brown & Shelly ManneAt Shelly's Manne-Hole ... CD
Verve (Japan), 1968. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A nice little live set – recorded at Shelly Manne's club in LA, and one that features a trio with Michel Legrand on piano, Ray Brown on bass, and Shelly Manne on drums – all playing together on a combination of improvisational, original tunes and some more familiar ones! The improvisational tunes are really the standouts here – quite unusual not only for the time, but also for Legrand, who was known strongly by this point as a composer. Four of the album's songs were created on the spot – with titles that include "The Grand Brown Man", "Ray's Riff", "Another Blues", and "Los Gatos" – the remaining familiar tunes include "A Time For Love", "Watch What Happens", "My Funny Valentine", and "Willow Weep For Me". A nice return to jazz for Legrand – one of his few from the time! CD
