✨✧ MF DoomOperation Doomsday (longbox edition) (2024 Black Friday Release) ... CD
Metal Face, 1999. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The first full length from MF Doom – a record that set the standard for underground hip hop to come! On this modern classic, Doom caps off the 90s with more jazzy soul in the beats, and some semblance of straightforward rhyme mastery from both Doom & his guests – taken to the outer limits! What really pushes this one into legendary status are how well he works with creaky comic adventure samples – using them as the genesis of Doom's metal face supervillain persona. Looking back, the set is clearly the building blocks for deeper insanity to come – but the sense of structure may well make it his best album ever! Includes "Doomsday", "Rhymes Like Dimes" feat Cucumber Slice, "The Finest" feat Tommy Gun, "Go With The Flow", "Tick Tick", "Hey!", "The Mic", "Dead Bent", "?" feat Kurious and much more – including all of the classic skits (yeah, we said it, classic skits, creative sci fi sample genius that are creative as the proper tracks) – with 19 tracks in all. CD
(Longbox CD editions feature full color boxes with original art or variant cover. Fulfilled at random!)

✨✧ KMDBlack Bastards ... LP
Subverse, 1994. Near Mint- 2LP ... Out Of Stock
A legendary record from KMD – the group's second album, which was unissued at the time because their label had an issue with the now-famous cover image! The set is every bit as fantastic as their first – with some of that strong influence from jazz that marked their music as a real standout at the time – but also some raw elements that really make us wonder where they would have gone, had they kept on together as a trio – if not for the untimely early death of Dingilizwe Dumile! Yet, as history shows, that moment spawned the MF Doom persona of group member Zevlove X (Dumile's brother) – who would go on to form a legacy of his own. The whole thing's great, even without that mini-history lesson – and titles include the classics "Plumskinnzz" and "What A Ni**a Know" – plus "Get-U-Now", "Sweet Premium Wine", "Black Bastards", "Constipated Monkey", and "Gimme". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Madvillain (Madlib & MF Doom)Money Folder (orig, rmx, inst, rmx inst)/America's Most Blunted (voc, inst) ... 12-inch
Stones Throw, 2003. Sealed (pic cover)... Out Of Stock
MF Doom and Madlib, two of the most ubiquitous characters in underground hip hop – hell, perhaps THE most ubiquitous characters in underground hip hop, pair up for an outing on Stones Throw! "Money Folder" is Doom's real showpiece of the couple of tracks here. Metal Face kicks his gravelly, atomically charged word bombs over some really hot start & sto(m)p beats by 'Lib. "America's Most Blunted" is the DJ's game, with a string of strange samples and soundtrack vibe with a Cut Chemist feel. Madlib's knob twirlin' and wheel spinnin' on the two main cuts and remixes is much more in his funk beats and wacked samples guise than the mad jazz vibe he's been rocking on other recent projects. 12-inch, Vinyl record

YOD serves up that nicely laidback, almost conversational style that makes his music so great – working here with beats from Wino Willy, Lee Scott, Nicholas Craven, Jonwayne, and J-Es – each of whom really get that slow-stepping mix of bass and jazz just right! Titles include "The Simpsons", "50K Or Brunch", "The Hand Of YOD", "The Unknown Comic", "The Man On The Moon", "The Tonight Show", and "Triple Lindy". Also features a bonus "Metal Face Medley". ✨✧ Milt JacksonOlinga ... LP
CTI, 1974. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Milt Jackson's third album for CTI – part of a wonderful run that really helped him redefine his sound in the 70s! The album's got the electric approach you'd expect from the label – a great change from the sound of Jackson in the Modern Jazz Quartet, and a surprisingly great setting for his wonderful work on vibes! Milt's laidback style is perfect for the CTI mode – open, flowing, and filled with great tones – matched up here with sax work by Jimmy Heath, bass by Ron Carter, piano from Cedar Walton, and drums by Mickey Roker – a perfect setting to let loose in a way he rarely did on his earlier albums. The whole set's great – and titles include "Lost April", "Rerev", "The Metal Melter", "The Steel Bender", and "I'm Not So Sure". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing with Van Gelder stamp. Cover has light surface wear and blemish streaks.)

American, 1990. Used ... Out Of Stock
The dawn of the 90s debut of the Black Crowes! This is a record that really stood out at the time, a strange period in mainstream rock between the hard rock/hair metal of the late 80s and the moodier alternative rock to come – and here was the Crowes, carrying a torch for the old school swagger of the Rolling Stones and especially the Faces – and doing a pretty damn convincing job! Includes "Twice As Hard", "Jealous Again", "She Talks To Angels", "Struttin' Blues", "Stare It Cold", "Hard To Handle" and more. CD

✨✧ Jackie McLeanOne Step Beyond ... LP
Blue Note, 1963. Very Good- ... Out Of Stock
An amazing album – simply groundbreaking, and a key turn for Jackie McLean! The record features a group of hip young players – including a very young Tony Williams, plus Grachan Moncur III, Bobby Hutcherson, and Eddie Kahn – all playing in a spare contemplative modernist mode that would soon become known as "new thing" jazz. The four tracks on the album – "Frankenstein", "Ghost Town", "Blue Rondo", and "Saturday & Sunday" – are extremely stark, and even Hutcherson's often-warm vibes sound harsh and metallic, especially next to McLean's razor-sharp tone. The record's a real treasure – and never too out to be unenjoyable by fans of McLean's more inside work. Extremely compelling – and we sure wish they were making them like this again! LP, Vinyl record album
(New York mono pressing, with Van Gelder stamp and ear, deep groove on side one. Cover has a split bottom seam, surface wear & aging. Includes Blue Note inner sleeve.)

✨✧ Savoy BrownSavage Return ... LP
London, 1978. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A record that features a slightly-changed version of Savoy Brown – still with Kim Simmonds on lead guitars, providing all the strong blues-influenced elements that got the group going in the first place – but with bassist Ian Ellis on vocals, who gives the record a very different vibe than before! Overall, the sound has shifted too – the group's a trio, the drums are more prominent, and that seems to almost push Savoy Brown into hard rock territory – almost as if they were trying to give the new metal generation a run for their money! Titles include "The First Night", "Spirit High", "Don't Do It Baby Do It", "Double Lover", "My Own Man", and "Walk Before You Run". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Wishbone AshArgus ... LP
Decca, 1972. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
The early 70s mix of medieval themes and more 70s rooted jams – Argus by Wishbone Ash! If you haven't heard this one, and you're expecting battle axes, swords and early metal bombast. . .well, there's some of that. But Wishbone Ash were restless cats, and there's longwinded acoustic passages and all kinds of early 70s rock going on here! Dig that Hipgnosis cover art, too. Titles include "Time Was", "Sometime World", "Warrior", "Throw Down The Sword", "Blowin Free" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

A classic! Where would electronic pop be without Gary Numan's "Cars"? Alongside Kraftwerk's classic 80s albums and Yellow Magic Orchestra's first LP, this album by Gary Numan ranks as one of the most essential synth driven LPs on a creative level – and it rightly brought the sound to the masses at the time, too – thanks to a brilliant pop sensibility, awash with robotic tones that will forever vindicate 80s new wave. Includes "Airlane", "Metal", "Complex", "Films", "ME", "Tracks", "Observer", "Conversation", "Cars" and "Engineers". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Czarface & MF DoomSuper What? ... LP
Silver Age, 2021. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
MF Doom left our planet all too soon, and he left behind a great legacy of music, too – including a previous collaboration with the Czarface collective, nicely matched by this posthumous set! The balance here is great, and the set brings the metal man of mystery into great play with his collaborators and guests who include DMC, Kendra Morris, and Del The Funky Homosapien – all coming together on an album that's every bit as fun as the first time around, and maybe even more essential, given that we're not going to hear that much more from the unissued archives of MF Doom. Titles include "This Is Canon Now", "So Strange", "Young World", "Mando Calrissian", "Doom Unto Others", "The King & Eye", and "Czarwyn's Theory Of People Getting Loose". LP, Vinyl record album

SkyzooSalvation (marble vinyl pressing) ... LP
Jamla/Duck Down, 2009. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... $30.99 34.99
The debut of Skyzoo, and a set that already has the Brooklyn MC confident enough to share his thoughts and ideas at a very personal level – maybe taking some of the modes of the backpack generation, and giving it a bit more bite – all in a way that prefaces other work of its time to emerge strongly in the following decade! The set's got a variety of production help – 9th Wonder, Eric G, Cyrus Tha Great, Best Kept Secret, Just Blaze, and others – which creates this great palette of sonic energy, while also keeping things unified by the presence of Skyzoo in the lead! There's not really much in the way of features – which keeps the core energy going strong – and titles include "The Shooter's Soundtrack", "My Interpretation", "The Beautiful Decay", "Easy To Fly", "For What It's Worth", "Dear Whoever", and "Metal Hearts". A searing live performance from the Praxis Festival in Athens – one that features Don Moye and John Tchicai alongside the enigmatic Hartmut Geerken! The trio perform work with a fair bit of intensity here – driven by heavy percussion from Moye, complicated reeds from Tchicai, and a fair range of unusual instrumentation from Geerken – not just his usual piano, but also Tibetan Horn, swarmandal, bells, balloons, whistles, singing tube, ooting, chinkas, gongs, and even a water basin! ✨✧ T RexSlider ... LP
Reprise, 1972. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
T Rex's phenomenal second album since moving into a heavier glam mode, following the great Electric Warrior LP – still standing firmly as one of the best purely rocking, trashy fun rock & roll albums of the 70s! Marc Bolan's roots on spacier psyche folk melodies sort of float over beefier, fuzzier, sleazier hooks – a facet of the T Rex sound that always set them apart from the pack of more rote guitar rock guys & gals, and this peak material. Includes the eternal "Metal Guru" & "Telegram Sam", more classics like the title track, "Mystic Lady", "Baby Boomerang", "Ballrooms Of Mars", "Main Man" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousWe're An American Band – A Journey Through The USA Hard Rock Scene 1967 to 1973 (3CD set) ... CD
Grapefruit (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 3CD ... Out Of Stock
A really heady set of tracks from the American scene – music that effortlessly bridges the 60s sounds of garage, blues rock, and psych – and prefaces some of the metal and more guitar-heavy modes to emerge later on in the 70s! The work here definitely shares more with the sounds of the 60s, but also really captures the music at a moment when things were really transforming – groups were getting past a slavish presentation of their influences, finding bold new modes of expression, and really letting their freak flag fly with fuzzy brilliance throughout – all at levels that were also different than some of the longer-spun modes of the European progressive world. As with other Grapefruit packages, the distillation of a sound and scene here is wonderful – and supported with very detailed notes too – in a package that includes 62 tracks in all - with work from Bang, Sudden Death, Dust, Arthur Lee, Boomerang, Cactus, Grand Funk, The Flow, Head Over Heels, Sir Lord Baltimore, ZZ Top, Brigade, Fuse, Conception, Morgen, Coven, Alice Cooper, Nazz, Stack, Spirit, Kim Fowley, SRC, Mass Confusion Rock Band, Society's Children, Omnibus, Wildwood, Human Beinz, The Sound Barrier, Fever Tree, and many others!
