VariousWhere Were You – Independent Music From Leeds 1978 to 1989 (3CD set) ... CD
Cherry Red (UK), Late 70s/1980s. New Copy 3CD ... $28.99 34.99
A killer look at one of our favorite scenes in the UK in the punk years and beyond – the city of Leeds, home to a surprising amount of really fantastic groups – some of whom were initially united in a scene-based style, many more who later exploded in a range of very groovy modes that were all their own! The title's taken from a song by The Mekons – back when they shared a lot with Gang Of Four – and in addition to those two great groups, the package features material by a startling array of others – groups who really run the gamut once the 80s moves on – in a lineup that includes Cassandra Complex, Three Johns, Vicious Pink, Deja Vu, The Hollow Men, Wedding Present, The Mission, Son Of Sam, Age Of Chance, Edsel Auctioneer, Pale Saints, Snapdragons, Sisters Of Mercy, Soft Cell, Girls At Our Best, Scritti Politti, The Neats, Jerks, and many others. As you'll guess from the groups, there's a great range of punk, indie, and industrial material here – plus some noisy bits as well – and the whole thing's presented with a great booklet of notes on everyone included, and the scene in Leeds as well. ✨✧ ShindigIssue 140 ... Magazine
Shindig, 2023. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A post-punk band with the wisdom to look to psych era inspiration, laying the groundwork for indie rock to come and all the while getting surprising mainstream success in their heyday – The Teardrop Explodes are the rightful cover feature for this issue of Shindig! This issue has plenty of cool features, items and snapshots of tons of other cool bands from the 60s and 70 and relatively contemporary torch carriers including The Soup Dragons, The Cramps, Edgar Jones, and look at gargage revival 45s, The Creeps, Permanent Clear Light, The Playn Jayn and lots more! ✨✧ Blue MagicMystic Dragons ... LP
Atco, 1976. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Blue Magic getting a bit bolder than before – adding in some heavier funk that takes them past the mellow moments of their earliest years – yet still serving up some great harmonies in the process! The change is a subtle one – heard on some of the album's more hard-grooving tracks, which also bring in some full arrangements that echo the trippy feel of the cover – yet which still always respect that slight heartbreaking undercurrent of the group's great vocals, thanks to arrangements from Bobby Eli! Just about every moment from Blue Magic is totally great, and this album is no exception – with titles that include "Freak N Stein", "Mother Funk", "To Get Love", "See The Bedroom", "Summer Snow", "Making Love To A Memory", and "Spark Of Love". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cutout hole, light wear, and an ink stamp.)

Cherry Red (UK), 1980s. Used 5CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A sprawling 5CD box set of benchmark 80s indie pop from the UK – chronologically sequenced (for the most part) from the beginning to the end of the decade – with so many brilliant songs both straight-up classic and others that are relatively forgotten! Incredible stuff from the post punk guitar years, to dreamier and more psych steeped sounds, to the dancier grooves late in the decade that laid the groundwork for the 90s. Classics and early singles by Prefab Sprout, TV Personalities, Everything But The Girl, Pulp, Biff Bang Pow!, Primal Scream, The Wedding Present, The Soup Dragons, House Of Love, The Shamen, The Rosehips, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Wonder Stuff, The Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, James, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Lloyd Cole & The Commotion, The Darling Buds, The Boo Radleys and many, many more!
