✨✧ Manzanita Y Su ConjuntoTrujilo, Peru – 1971 to 1974 ... LP
Analog Africa (Germany), Early 1970s. Sealed Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Stunning sounds from the early 70s Peruvian scene – a really unique take on the cumbia mode of the time, and one that's topped with plenty of psychedelic touches as well! In truth, the rhythms here are often as Cuban as they are Colombian – a really great hybrid of both, used alongside these sweetly bubbling organ lines that are often thinner than a Hammond organ, which lets the guitar step out even more strongly over the top – often with these sounds from both elements that act like a distant cousin of anglo psych, but make for a very surprising addition to Latin rhythms! The set brings together the best cuts from a key recording period of Manzanita – and titles include "La Buenita", "No Me Marchare", "Lamento En La Puna", "Salome", "El Norteno", "Un Sabado Por La Noche", "Shambar", "La Mazamorrita", and "Catita". VariousCumbias Chicadelicas – Peruvian Psychedelic Chicha ... CD
Infopesa (Peru), Late 60s/1970s/Early 80s. New Copy ... About September 5, 2024 (delayed)
One of the coolest collections of chicha we've ever heard – that ultra-cool Peruvian style that mixes cumbia rhythms with electric surf-styled guitar – all in a sound that's as fresh today as when it was first waxed back in the 70s! Chicha is one of those rare cross-cultural moments when all the parts came together to make something way more than just their components – a cool new style of expression that didn't have to answer to any other outside forces, and which was instead free to take its own best impulses and really run with them! The package all draws from the archives of the Infopesa label, and is filled with great chicha cuts that are heavy on sweet guitar lines and rootsy percussion – with production that almost feels like the indie scene in LA during the 60s. The collection is done in the usual thorough style we've come to expect from Pharaway Sounds – and comes with a great bach of notes, and titles that include "Monito Saltarin" by Sonido 2000, "Mi Gran Noche" by Aniceto & Sus Fabulosos, "El Bicho" by Los Beta 5, "Arre Caballito" by Manzanita Y Su Conjunto, "Lobos Al Escape" by Los Orientales De Paramonga, "Ramo De Rosas" by Los Pakines, "Mi Morena Rebelde" by Eusebio Y Su Banjo, and "Todos Juntos" by Los Invasores De Progreso. ✨✧ VariousCumbia Beat Vol 1 – Experimental Guitar-Driven Tropical Sounds From Peru 1966 to 1976 ... LP
Vampi Soul (Spain), Late 60s/1970s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
One of the coolest collections of cumbia music we've ever heard – a set that focuses on the really special sounds that were being cooked up in Peru in the late 60s and early 70s – a time when there was a definite influence from rock guitar modes mixing in with Latin rhythms! The tunes chug along with all the fast-stepping crackle of later cumbia – but there's very pronounced use of guitar on most numbers – sometimes clean and lean, ala American surf instrumentals – sometimes fuzzier and freaky, with a clear psychedelic inspiration! Peru was always a bit farther from other Latin scenes, and seemed to have more freedom in cooking up their grooves – which is definitely the case in this really wonderful set! Titles include "El Avison" by Silvestre Montez Y Sus Guantanameros, "Viento" by Grupo Celeste", "Cumbia Pop" by Los Beltons, " Arre Caballito" by Manzanita Y Su Conjunto, "La Ardillita" by Los Destellos, "Beteando" by Los Beta 5, "Mujer Hilandera" by Juaneco Y Su Combo, "Malambo" by Los Diablos Rojos, and "Liliana" by Los Demonios Del Mantaro. LP, Vinyl record album
