✨✧ Louis JordanHallelujah – Louis Jordan Is Back ... LP
Tangerine, Early 60s. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Comeback LP that Louis Jordan recorded for Ray Charles' Tangerine label during the mid 60's, with some reprises of his old stuff like "Saturday Night Fish Fry" and "Cole Slaw", plus other stuff like "Honey Bee", "The Troubadour", "Hop, Skip & Jump", "El Camino Real", and "Time Is Running Out". Louis' style totally benefits from the good recording quality of Tangerine, and the set's a great updating of his music, with excellent backing, and some very nice production on Louis' vocals and sax solos. ✨✧ Oliver SainSt Louis Breakdown – The Best of Oliver Sain ... CD
Sain Sound/P-Vine (Japan), Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Killer instrumental funk from the mighty Oliver Sain – one of the hippest cats to ever work the St Louis scene! The package features most of the best cuts from Sain's years at Abet Records, plus some tasty indie moments too – a really tremendous assortment of his sax-heavy grooves, brought together in a package that's overstuffed with greatness! Styles range from heavy funk to some of the more boogie-oriented styles that Sain did later in the 70s – and they've all got a mighty sharp edge, and lots of soul sax work that easily rivals the best that King Curtis, Joe Thomas, or other ebony godfathers had to offer. Titles include the massive sample cut "On The Hill" – plus "St Louis Breakdown", "Comin Down Soul", "Feel Like Dancin", "African Walk", "The Prayer", "Country Funk", "Night Time", "Mr King & Mr Jordan", "20-75", "Strollin", "Party Hearty", "Booty Bumpin", "Soul Serenade", "Scratch My Back", "London Express", and "Going Back To Memphis". VariousBarjazz 3 ... CD
Motor (Germany), 1998. Used ... $9.99
The folks at Motor Music got German hipster Gotz Alsmann to put together this moody set of 50's and 60's jazz tracks with a "barjazz" sound that makes you feel like you're kicking back in some darkly lit dive in the middle of the evening! There's a great mix of bluesy jazz, and R&B tinged vocal tracks – and titles include "Big Bad Wolf" by Freddie Bell & The Bell Boys, "Peace Of Mind" by Louis Jordan, "Blue & Yellow" by Ambrose Seelos, "Sunny" by Wes Montgomery, "Foggy Day" by Toni Harper, "Nothing But A Fool" by Oscar Brown & Luiz Henrique, and lots more! Nice bluesy jazzy jukebox sound, and a lot like the Modjazz sets on Ace! CD

✨✧ Kenny BurrellBlue Lights Vol 2 ... LP
Blue Note, 1958. Very Good- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Some of Kenny Burrell's best early work! The album catches Kenny in the perfect Blue Note jam session mode of the late 50s – one used also with Jimmy Smith, and which features a number of the label's star players hitting hard with the main soloist. Players on the two volume set include Duke Jordan or Bobby Timmons piano, Junior Cook and Tina Brooks tenor, Louis Smith trumpet, and Art Blakey on Drums. The cuts have a very open-ended blowing session feel, and Kenny comes through surprisingly well, really picking up steam on a way you don't always hear in more restrained recordings. Titles on this volume include "Rock Salt", "Chuckin", and "Phinupi". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono Liberty pressing with RVG stamp and 9M etch, in the pink cover. Vinyl has a mark that clicks a bit on "Rock Salt". Cover has split seams, some surface wear, and light aging.)

Fremeaux & Associates (France), Late 30s/1940s/1950s/Early 60s. New Copy 3 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic collection of music – 66 tracks that show the huge influence of Cuban rhythms in American music during the mid-century years – presented here in a wider range of styles than you might expect! This isn't just Latin music, made by Cuban cats hitting the New York scene – and instead, these are tracks that show the very deep penetration of sounds from Havana – at a level that has the rhythms emerging in soul, hardbop, R&B, and even more standard blues material! The CD divides the music up into three different CDs, each with a different theme – one that looks at rumba in jazz music, another the influence of the mambo, and the third the range of slower Cuban rhythms well into the 60s. Titles include "Dem Tambourines" by Don Wilkerson, "Cuba Doll" by Lloyd Glenn, "Summertime" by Red Saunders, "Soony Roony" by Slim Gaillard, "De Laff's On You" by Louis Jordan, "Conga Brava" by Duke Ellington, "I Come From America" by Chris Powell, "Jock A Mo" by Sugar Boy Crawford, "Woke Up This Morning" by BB King, "Fool Burro" by Mabel Scott, "Cu-Blue" by Billy Taylor, "Arabian Love Call" by Art Neville, "Out Of Nowhere" by Cal Tjader, "I've Waited So Long" by Eddie Cochran, "She Wants To Mambo" by The Chanters, "Mambo Hop" by Oscar Saldana, and "Mambocito Mio" by Illinois Jacquet.
