Little DragonNew Me, Same Us (orange vinyl pressing) ... LP
Ninja Tune, 2020. New Copy Gatefold ... $22.99 23.99
Little Dragon's always got a great way with a tune – a way of folding together elements that are both sweet and crispy, but without ever sounding too sanded-down or sleepy – as so many others who hit this territory! Instead, there's a nice crackle to most tunes – tracks that might almost want to be pop songs, but which have more of an underground soul current – little electronic bits bubbling around next to subdued soul vocals, finding all the right spots to mesh together in the best possible way! Titles include "Another Lover", "Every Rain", "New Fiction", "Sadness", "Stay Right Here", "Where You Belong", "Water", and "Are You Feeling Sad". LP, Vinyl record album
(Indie exclusive colored vinyl pressing & with embossed back cover!)

Daryl Dragon & OthersSea For Yourself (with bonus DVD) ... LP
Rural/Modern Harmonic, Early 70s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... $35.99 37.99
A fantastic little surf soundtrack record – and one that's very different than both the guitar instrumental and jazz-based albums that showed up earlier in the genre! This one is much more like some of the Australian rock scores that started to show up at the end of the 60s – very trippy, and with a weird mix of psych styles, and some really surprising rootsy touches too – so that you'll get fuzzy guitar one minute, and North Cali acoustic sounds the next – all jumping around in this really great way! Production and the whole project is by Daryl Dragon – of later fame – and here, he's a madman in the studio – using cool effects to create some really great moments on some of the tunes. Dragon also handles some of the music, too, amidst a wide variety of other artists and singers – listed here in groups that include The Bozone, Dan Peyton, Al Oakie & Friends, Richard Henn & Co, The Dragons, BFI, and Helpers. Very hip – like the best Aussie surf rock sounds at the end of the 60s! LP, Vinyl record album
(Features a bonus DVD of the film, too!)

Ryo KawasakiLittle Tree ... LP
Studio Mule (Germany), 1980. New Copy ... $19.99
One of the few rare albums cut by Japanese guitarist Ryo Kawasaki and his groundbreaking Golden Dragon group during the early 80s – a record that mixes some of the groove-oriented currents of his previous work with elements that are maybe more far-reaching and fusion-styled too! There's plenty of great guitar on the record – as you'd expect from Ryo – and the set also has reedman Azar Lawrence and percussionist Nana Vasconcelos – each of whom add their talents to some of the album's best cuts! Highlights include the soulful vocal track "Looking Around You", the spacey jammer "Quasar Infection", and the straight ahead "Maximillian" – plus other tracks that include "Little Tree", "Jamiko", and "Midnight Fire Engine". Derek Bailey/Evan Parker/Jamie Muir/Hugh Davies/ChMusic Improvisation Company ... LP
ECM (Germany), 1970. Near Mint- ... $43.99
A seminal session that forever put the British improvisational scene on the map – a great little record that features guitar by Bailey, soprano sax by Evan Parker, electronics by Hugh Davies, and work by Jamie Muir and Christine Jeffrey. Tracks are longish, and relatively free – and titles include "Tuck", "Third Stream Boogaloo", "Dragon Path", and "Packaged Eel". LP, Vinyl record album
(German pressing. Cover is still in shrink, but like many German pressings, the cellophane has fused with the gloss finish and shows some aging.)

DJ ShadowLess You Know, The Better ... CD
Verve, 2011. Used ... $7.99
Does any hip hop DJ/producer/artist or otherwise instrumental sound stylist of any stripe face steeper critical expectations with each successive album than DJ Shadow, and if so, do any of them divert those expectations so profoundly as Shadow does? On The Less You Know, The Better, Josh Davis flirts with the beats, scratches and mood altering soundscapes of his early work at a few points, but he really tackles wide sylistic breadth here – including fuzzed out rock guitars over frenetic beats, spacey folk funk, darkness tinged new wave, timelessly brilliant rap. Includes "Back To Front (Circular Logic)", "Border Crossing", "Stay The Course" feat Talib Kweli & Posdnuos, "I've Been Trying", "Tedium", "Going Nowhere", "I Gotta Rokk", "Run For Your Life", "Scale It Back" feat Little Dragon, "Redeemed", "Circular Logic (Front To Back)" and more. Percy FaithCorazon/My Love ... CD
Columbia/Collectables, 1973. Used ... $6.99
Sweet 70s grooves from Percy Faith – a snoozer of an arranger in the 60s, but a talent who picked up a lot for us in the 70s! Both albums feature some strong tracks in which Percy mixes strings and easy instrumentation with electric bass and some nice drum work by Hal Blaine or Earl Palmer – creating tunes that at once have a glossy sweep, but also a nice little bounce that actually makes for some nicely funky moments that sparkle with a soundtrack feel. Some tunes are easy – but there's some really nice ones on here, like Percy's cover of Freddie Hubbard's "First Light", or versions of "Pata Pata", "Enter The Dragon", "Corazon", "Crunchy Granola Suite", "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life", "Sing", "Kodachrome", "Pillow Talk", and "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia", all of which come off with the feel of some of the better tunes on the MPS Snowflakes compilation! BBE (UK), Late 60s/1970s/Early 80s. New Copy 3LP Gatefold ... $28.99 39.99
An incredible trip through the 70s Japanese jazz scene – a second volume of J Jazz that's even bigger and better than the first – with unknown gems from private presses, indie labels, and rarities from the Japanese branches of the major labels, too! Compilers Tony Higgins & Mike Peden (who are both also responsible for the nicely done notes) follow through on all of the things we loved about the first J Jazz compilation, but improve on it by going bigger and digging deeper. The majority of the tracks were recorded from 1969 through the late 70s – with a few recorded in later years – and all have a wonderful way of being open to the stylistic inventions of the time without getting hung up on trends. So while there's some fusiony funk and electric piano, there's plenty of acoustic instrumentation and timelessly inventive material. BBE has outdone themselves on this excellent collection – and the titles include "Dragon Dance" by Makoto Terashita & Harold Land, "Daguri" by Kohsuke Mine Quintet, "Distant Thunder" by Mabumi Yamguchi Quartet, "Animal Garden" by Miyasaka + 5, "Mother Of The Future" by Electro Keyboard Orchestra, "Serenade To A Dimly Lit Street" by Hiroshi Matsumoto/Hideo Ichikawa Quartet, "Teru-Teru Bozu" (Black Keys) by Teru Sakamoto Trio, "Little Giant" by Nobuo & Sharps & Flats, "Brown Trout" by Akira Miyazawa and more. 14 tracks on 3LPs. Nature Sounds, 2020. New Copy Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A strong little record that speaks its message right in its title – and which follows up with some inventive production touches that are sure to set Preservation apart from the pack! Much of the aesthetic here seeks to bridge a space between New York and China – using the melting pot of Queens as a strong springboard – sometimes with found snippets that address global issues, sometimes with slight instrumental flourishes that echo trans-Pacific culture – but all topped with rhymes from a variety of guests that really center the project in New York – contributions from Roc Marciano, YoungQueenz, Mach Hommy, Ka, Your Old Droog, Quelle Chris, AG, Grande Marshall, and others. Titles include "Rose Royce", "Medicine Drawer", "Lemon Rinds", "A Cure For The Common", "Mouth Of A River", "Money In the Wild", "A Scholar's Rock", and "Dragon Town". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Chet BakerChet Baker Ensemble (10 inch LP) ... LP
Pacific Jazz, 1954. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Cool moody work from Chet Baker – a very unusual set that has him blowing with a larger group than usual! The set's real star is Jack Montrose – the great west coast arranger who had a perfect talent for taking horns and locking them up tight to create a sound full of gloss and surprise! Montrose plays tenor sax on the set – in a three sax section that also features Herb Geller and Bob Gordon – and the rest of the group includes Russ Freeman on piano, Shelly Manne on drums, and Joe Mondragon on bass. Chet's work is great too – but the real appeal of the set is the Montrose-styled groove – very nice all the way through! Tracks include "Ergo", "A Dandy Line", "Pro Defunctus", "Goodbye", "Headline", and "Little Old Lady". LP, Vinyl record album
(Vinyl is nice and clean, and cover is nice too!)
