Ash Ra Tempel —
Starring Rosi ... CD Made In Germany (Germany), 1973. New Copy ...
$15.9917.99
The last and lean effort from the legendary Ash Ra Tempel – a set that relies heavily on vocals from female singer Rosemarie Muller, who's pictured on the cover almost as some Teutonic take on LindaRonstadt! And oddly, there might be a bit of Cali currents in the mix – as the guitar work of Manuel Gottsching, while as weird and wild as ever, does have these occasional moments of grounding – certainly not standard rock, but these tuneful snippets from time to time that are almost a surprise next to the darker, moodier vocals of Rosi! Dieter Dierks produced, and had a nice hand in the sound – and Rosi also plays a bit of vibes and a concert harp – although the swirling sound is much more electric and spacey than you might guess from those instruments. Titles include "Interplay Of Forces", "Laughter Loving", "Bring Me Up", "Cosmic Tango", "Schizo", and "Day Dream". CD
A smaller-form piece by Philip Glass, but still an opera of sorts – billed as a "space fiction music drama" – with reeds from Jon Gibson and Jack Kripl, and some vocals from LindaRonstadt! CD
A totally great record, with very obscure origin – one that didn't come out until 1973, but which features 1969 studio jam session work with a huge amount of famous players – including Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton under fake names – plus Harvey Mandel, Jack Wilkins, Buzzy Feiten, and Todd Rundgren on guitars; Dr John, Moogy Klingman, and Keith Emerson on organ; Stu Woods and Richard Davis on bass; Chris Wood and Joe Farrell on reeds; and LindaRonstadt, Eric Mercury, Tommy Cosgrove, and others on vocals! LP, Vinyl record album
The second album from The Stone Poneys, but it's a set that definitely lives up to its title – a mature, well-crafted batch of tracks that should certainly stay fresh years after the group's demise! There's a darker, more sophisticated sound than on the group's debut – less straighter folk influences, and more of a mix of complicated country and late 60s adult vocals – held perfectly by LindaRonstadt's lead, but wrapped up nicely with a bit of a harmony sound at times. Titles include the hit "Different Drum", plus "Evergreen (parts 1 & 2)", "December Dream", "Song About The Rain", "Autumn Afternoon", and "Toys Of Time". LP, Vinyl record album
