✨✧ Richard & Linda ThompsonShoot Out The Lights ... CD
Hannibal, 1982. Used ... Out Of Stock
One of the best-remembered Richard Thompson moments of the 80s – and a set that's also a bittersweet farewell to his years with Linda Thompson too! The album may well be the Rumors of the folk rock scene – but it's also got a quality that's more personal and pointed, too – songs that really show a lot of evolution in the style of not just the Thompsons, but also the production talents of Joe Boyd – who manages to make the music sound surprisingly biting for the time – really shaking off the trappings of early 70s British folk rock, but without losing any of its depth. Titles include "Don't Renege On Our Love", "Walking On A Wire", "Just The Motion", "Shoot Out The Lights", "Did She Jump Or Was She Pushed", and "Wall Of Death". CD

✨✧ Richard ThompsonRichard Thompson – Guitar/Vocal – A Collection Of Unreleased & Rare Material 1967 to 1976 (180 gram pressing – with bonus download) ... LP
Island, Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A great overview of the early years of Richard Thompson – a set that brings together some rare material and classics, all at a level that really shows the multi-faceted genius he had right from the start! In later years, Thompson continued to be known as a skillful singer/songwriter – but here, he's almost as much a guitar hero as he is a vocalist – a sharp-edged talent, no matter what the setting! Highlights include unissued live takes on "Dark End Of The Street", "The Cavalry Cross", "Night Comes In", and "Sweet Little Rock & Roller" – and other titles feature solo work, duets with Linda Thompson, and even a few with Fairport Convention – titles that include "Mr Lacey", "Ballad Of Easy Rider", "Poor Will & The Jolly Hangman", "Flee As A Bird", "A Heart Needs A Home", "It'll Be Me", and "The Pitfall/The Excursion". ✨✧ VariousWhen Day Is Done – The Orchestrations Of Robert Kirby ... CD
Ace (UK), Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The cover and title are both a reference to the late Nick Drake – and Drake's music is the way that most people know the talents of Robert Kirby – a fantastic arranger who helped bring a whole new level of melancholy and sophistication to British music at the start of the 70s! Kirby's strings are one of the elements that have always made Drake's Five Leaves Left album so wonderful – and around the same time, he also worked with a number of other English acts in similar modes – that unique post-folk period in which all previous standards and styles were broken open, and presented with a depth that's still strongly appreciated all these many years later! This is the first tribute to Kirby we've ever seen, and it's lovingly put together by Bob Stanley – the man who gave us the excellent English Weather compilation, a great partner to this one. Titles include "Rainbow River" by Vashti Bunyan, "Forest & The Shore" by Keith Christmas, "Ophelia's Song" by Shelagh McDonald, "What Memories We Make" by Dana Gillespie, "Gimme An Inch Girl" by Ian Matthews, "Madonna Blue" by Illusion, "First Light" by Richard & Linda Thompson, "Honour Bright" by Shirley Collins, "Love Is A Funny Thing" by Spirogyra, "White Witch" by Spriguns, "Dancing At Whitsun" by Tim Hart & Maddy Pryor, "I Keep A Close Watch" by John Cale, and "Follow On" by Steve Ashley.
