Kenny DrewFalling Leaves ... CD
Limetree/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1990. New Copy ... $18.99
Beautifully fluid, lyrical work from Kenny Drew – the sort that he first gave the world in the early days of his career, and which was still going strong, with plenty of fire and imagination by the time of this very late recording! Drew's got this way of balancing both sides of the keyboard in an effortless way – with these left hand romps that balance out the lighter elements of the right – given and equally great sense of support here from George Mraz on bass and Lewis Nash on drums. The recording's a live one – done in Zagreb, with some nice long tracks – and titles include "The Falling Leaves (Autumn Leaves)", "Django", "All Blues", "In Your Own Sweet Way", "Blues", and "Stella By Starlight". CD

✨✧ Ferdinand Povel, Wim Overgaauw, Ruud Pronk, etcBeboppin ... LP
Limetree (Denmark), 1983. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Ferdinand Povel's one of those players we never seem to get enough of – a tenorist who may not be one of the bigger stars on the European scene, but one who always finds a way to serve up something special! Povel's got a nice edge in his horn at times – a mode that's always inside, but often sharply spoken – even when he's going for some mellower moments too – a bit of old school bite in the way he approaches the reed, maybe – and a definite sense of attack that really comes on when he's in a more swinging mode! The group here has some great guitar from Wim Overgaauw, whose ringing tones bring a bright balance between Povel's horn and the piano of Frans Elsen – and the rest of the group features Victor Kaihatu on bass and Ruud Pronk on drums. Titles include "Off Minor", "I'm Old Fashioned", "Beboppin", "Deception", "Nobody Else But Me", and "I Fall In Love Too Easily". LP, Vinyl record album
