✨✧ Keith BarrowPhysical Attraction ... LP
Columbia, 1978. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A great secular set from Keith Barrow – a singer who started in gospel, but who's always been best-remembered for this modern soul gem from the 70s! Keith's got a great range to his vocals – one you can hear right from the start, as he dips and soars effortlessly with a quality that's clearly inspired by the spirit – but set here to some wicked smooth soul arrangements from Johnny Allen. The album's got a mix of clubby moments and some even better laidback cuts – and the set also features a few tunes penned by Ronn Matlock, an under-credited master of modern soul. Titles include "Turn Me Up", "Physical Attraction", "You Know You Want To Be Loved", "If It's Love That You're Looking For", "Garden Of Love", and "Free To Be Me". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Keith BarrowKeith Barrow (Columbia) ... LP
Columbia, 1977. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Keith Barrow's first album of secular soul – a soaring set of vocals that really shows off his gospel roots! The record's produced by Bobby Eli with a bit of a Philly soul touch, but in ways that go quite past the conventional modes of the time – kind of offbeat at points, with a richness in sound that really matches Barrow's vocal range! Keith is one of those singers who's very confident in his style – working lines over and over, and driving a tune into a nice sort of frenzy – even at some mellow moments. We like these mellow moments best – as they have a great sort of focus – and titles include the underground groover "I Put The Twinkle In Your Eye", which has a hook you'll be singing for days, plus the cuts "A World Of Loney People", "Didn't You Know You'd Have to Cry Sometime", "Precious", "Mr Magic Man", and "Questions". ✨✧ VariousHoly Church Of The Ecstatic Soul – A Higher Power – Gospel, Funk, & Soul At The Crossroads 1971 to 1983 ... LP
Soul Jazz (UK), 1970s/Early 80s. Sealed 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A really cool collection – one that's maybe best summed up by the word "ecstatic" in the title – as the package presents a blend of work from artists who easily skirt both the spiritual and secular side of soulful music, united together with a very joyous, uplifting vibe in their sound! This isn't classic gospel from the years when you might hear a guitar or organ behind a small group of harmonizing vocals – and instead, much of this work was created at a time when soul music had already been going strong for years – and while gospel might have initially helped in the formation of soul, it's clear that things are also moving the other direction in these tracks – as many of these artists borrow from the power of righteous soul styles, and use it to inflect their joyous message with a great new energy! Titles include "Everything Is Gonna Be Alright" by Keith Barrow, "Is There Anybody Here" by The Alvin Darling Ensemble, "Trouble's Brewin" by The Meditation Singers, "Satisfied" by Andre Crouch & The Disciples, "Let Your Feet Down Easy" by Dorothy Norwood, "If You Believe Your God Is Dead" by Swan Silvertones, "The Upper Way" by The Violinaires, "Elijah" by Roscoe Robinson, "Till I've Got This Feelin Of Love" by Dyson's Faces, and "Nothing Can Stop Me Now" by Destiny. LP, Vinyl record album
(Red vinyl pressing, still sealed with hype sticker.)
