Ahhhhh . . . The wonderful sounds of JoeyPastrana – the hip Latin Soul bandleader who was known to the kids as "Hot" Pastrana! This album's one of his best for Cotique – a strong mix of boogaloo numbers and straighter Latin tracks, all played with the kind of fire that was making Joey and his generation draw big crowds in New York – causing the older leaders to quake in their boots and plot their revenge! The album's filled with nice Latin soul numbers – including the groovers "Afro Azul", "My Victrola", "How Sweet It Is", and "Problems". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original mono pressing! Cover has splitting on the top seam, a cutout hole, yellowing from age on the back, a name in pen, and light wear.)
Lost grooves from Spanish Harlem – an incredible set of Latin Soul from The 107th Street Stickball Team! With a name like that, the group certainly aren't as well-remembered as contemporaries like Joe Bataan or Willie Colon, but they've got a soulful groove that definitely fits the style of the time – a sweet uptown blend of Harlem soul and Latin rhythms – with the same blend of sweet soul ballads and uptempo groovers you'd find on some of Bataan's classic albums for Fania Records! Bobby Marin put the whole album together, with a tight groove that's very similar to his work for Speed Records – played here by a group that includes Orlando Marin, Louie Ramirez, Ozzie Torrens, and JoeyPastrana – all kings of Latin Soul at the time! Vocalists include Butch Johnson and Danny Agosto – but there's a real group feel to the record, with lots of harmonies behind the lead – the kind of streetcorner soul you might have heard while catching a stickball game on one of the side streets up north of Harlem. Titles include "Toma Guajira", "Look To Me", "You Put A Hurt In My Heart", "Rhythm & Soul", "Mojo Shingaling", "Barbara With The Kooky Eyes", "Tell Her I Love Her", and "Let Me Do My Thing". LP, Vinyl record album

Raw salsa from the streets of Brooklyn – served up here by a very obscure group, but one who work in the best styles of the Fania and Cotique Records scenes of the time! There's a strong Puerto Rican influence on the rhythms at times – very much that new spirit that was emerging with pride and power as the 70s moved in – but there's also some trailing currents of the Latin Soul generation, in the way that Cotique was working at the time – particularly on records by JoeyPastrana! Lyrics are in English on some tracks, and mighty darn soulful – and the group's led by Hector Ramos, who both sings and plays some massive trombone! Titles include "I'll Make You A Queen", "Vamanos/Let's Go", "Uptight", "Just Like A Fool", "Problems", "Cuero", and "Candela" CD
One of the most fantastic collections we've ever heard from DJ Amir – a set that may well blow away his classic On/Off Track sets for the depth of its spirit and feeling! Amir's been well-known as a crate digger for many years – and while digging for funk, soul, and hip hop on the New York scene, he's also come across plenty of rare Latin nuggets – not familiar salsa or crossover Latin Soul, but instead some much deeper numbers that show just how much spirit and imagination the music had when it was at its best! Most of the numbers here are from late 60s and 70s vintage – and many have this jazzy energy that goes way past just simple grooves, and which instead features the richer colors and complicated motions of some of Eddie Palmieri's music, especially in the 70s. Titles include the previously unreleased "Salsa (parts 1 & 2)" by Fito Foster – plus "Picadillo" by La Moderna Of New York, "Bomba" by Dax Pacem, "Paranoia" by Wayne Gorbea Y Su Conjunto Salsa, "Rogelio Tiene La Salsa" by Chino Y Su Conjunto Melao, "Yo No Bailo Con Juana" by Cortijo Y Kako, "Vete De Aqui" by Joey Aponte, "Asi Asi Descarga" by Mike Hernandez Y Su Sonora Casino, "Tembelque" by Louie Colon, "El Ritmo Soledad" by Orchestra Soledad, and "El Pulpo" by JoeyPastrana.
