✨✧ Jean Jacques PerreyMoog Indigo ... LP
Vanguard, 1970. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An incredible record of funky moogy grooves – possibly one of the best of the genre! Jean Jacques Perry really outdid himself on this record – going past the simple cut ups of his work with Gershon Kingsley, and hitting a style that was more groovy, and more song oriented. The best example of this is the album's fantastic funky tune "EVA" – a monster break/moog cut that's been sampled by Gang Starr for "Just To Get A Rep", and more than a few other artists over the years! The rest of the record's just as great – and cuts include "Soul City", "18th Century Puppet", "Gossipo Perpetuo", and "Passport To The Future". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousPop Boutique 2 – A Jazz Selection Of Unreleased Soundtrack Tunes ... LP
Spinning Wheel (Germany), 1970s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
2nd cool volume of this great series of funky sound library tracks put together by the Spinning Wheel record store in Germany! Like the first volume, this one's got a killer set of grooves that you'll never find in the original, and which are laid down by some of the funkiest cats working in Europe during the 70's. There's stuff on here by Nino Nardini (and not cuts from the Desco reissue), Klaus Weiss, Jean Jacques Perry, Guy Boyer, and Georges Arvanitas – and the set's even more well-selected and well-congealed than the first one. We're simply astounded at the amount of good tracks coming out of the vaults of Europe, but all we can say is keep the good stuff coming! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Kai WindingSoul Surfin' ... LP
Verve, Early 60s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A very groovy little record from the famous Kai Winding – hardly the trombone jazz outing you might have guessed from Kai's famous work with JJ Johnson – and instead, an electrified set that's got plenty of cool 60s touches! Winding does play trombone, but the group also features lots of guitar from Kenny Burrell, electric piano from Paul Griffin, and ondioline from Jean Jacques Perry – who really gives the whole thing a cool sort of watery sound – making the guitar and trombone sound wonderful together! Burrell's at his boldest too – almost surf-ish in parts – and titles include the album's hit version of "More", plus "Gravy Waltz", "China Nights", "Pipeline", "Sukiyaki", "Tube Wall", "Sinner", and "Hearse Ride". ✨✧ VariousSuper Breaks – Essential Funk, Soul & Jazz Samples and Breakbeats ... LP
BGP/Ace (UK), Late 60s/1970s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Way more than just a typical collection of rare funk and soul – as the selections here not only meet the stunningly high standards of the BGP label – but they've also been sampled in more recent years for hip hop records and other contemporary recordings! Essentially, you've got the best of both worlds – vintage funk from the late 60s and early 70s – brought together in a great collection – and work that's gone onto form the blueprint for contemporary urban sounds as well – which means you'll probably recognize some or part of most of these songs from their use in more contemporary recordings. Nearly every cut's been sampled at least more than once – and titles include "Blind Alley" by The Emotions, "Chick A Boom" by Pazant Brothers, "Eva" by Jean Jacques Perry, "Walk Tall" by Cannonball Adderley, "Baby Let Me Take You In My Arms" by Detroit Emeralds, "Bouncy Lady" by Pleasure, "Tramp" by Lowell Fulson, "Take Yo Praise" by Camille Yarbrough, "Thinking Single" by The Counts, "Different Strokes" by Syl Johnson, "Ike's Mood" by Isaac Hayes, "What A Man" by Linda Lynell, and "Smokey Joe's La La" by Googie Rene. Funky funky! LP, Vinyl record album
