Chantels, Dubs, Little Anthony & The Imperials, & OthersRock N Roll Jamboree ... LP
End, Late 50s. Very Good- ... $6.99
That's a really creepy puppet on the cover – but the set's a classic collection of R&B from the mighty End label! ✨✧ Ricard Roda, Ricard Miralles, Enric Ponsa, & Joan Josep TuduriNits De Jazz Al Jamboree (with bonus track) ... LP
Edigsa/Wah Wah (Spain), 1968. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A rare set of Spanish jazz from the 60s – quite a treasure, considering how little jazz we've heard from Spain at the time! The group's tremendous – soulful and modern, at a level that matches some of our favorite Italian combos of the same period – with this strong lead work from Ricard Roda on alto sax and flute, and these beautiful lines on piano from Ricard Miralles – both players we don't know at all, but who really shine in the live setting of the album! The group also features bold bass from Enric Ponsa and drums from Joan-Josep Tuduri – and the group clearly have a love of the modal tendencies that hit American jazz at the end of the 50s, particularly in the work of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Titles include Miralles own "Asteriscs" – worth the price of the album alone – plus "Kelly Blue", "Theme For Ernie", "Stella By Starlight", and "On Green Dolphin Street". Album also features the bonus track "Solar". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition of 500!)

✨✧ Gustav Brom/Polish Radio Big Band/Warsaw Stompers/Rita Reys & Pim JacobsJazz Jamboree 64 Vol 2 – Polish Radio Jazz Archives ... CD
Polskie Radio (Poland), 1964. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A set of swinging large group sounds mixed with vocal jazz numbers – all recorded at Poland's Jazz Jamboree festival in 1964! The real highlight here for us is the music of the Gustav Brom Orchestra – that cool Czech ensemble that later recorded some gems for MPS/Saba, but who here are already moving into some of their more modern conceptions – that strong sense of both color and swing that made Brom such an inventive leader. The group perform the tunes "Sonor", "Get Out Of Town", "African Nights", "Romance Of The Sea", and "Deep Water". The set also features some swinging vocal jazz numbers from the great Rita Reys from the Netherlands – working here with the Pim Jacobs Trio, who always provided her with the best sort of sounds – on titles that include "Bluesette", "Willow Weep For Me", "Moonglow", "Speak Low", and "I Get A Kick Out Of You". Andrzej Kurylewicz leads the Polish Radio Jazz Orchestra on titles that include "Cute", "Guma", and "Ballad For Anna" – and the set also features a few trad numbers from the Warsaw Stompers – including "Bat", "Panama", and "March Of The Charcoal Grays". ✨✧ Krzysztof KomedaJazz Jamboree 63 ... LP
Naked Lunch (Italy), 1963. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic material from the legendary Polish pianist Krzystof Komeda – best-known as the soundtrack composer on most of the early films of Roman Polanski, including Rosemary's Baby – but also a hell of a jazz modernist in his own right! This live performance captures Komeda right at a time when he was taking off – stretching out with fresh modern ideas of his own, and working with a key group of young associates – all at a level that rivals some of the freshest modern jazz experiments of contemporaries like Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, or Joe Harriott! The group's a quintet – with Michal Urbaniak on tenor and Tomasz Stanko on trumpet – and all tracks are long, and include "Knife In Water", "Roman Two", and "What's Up Mr Basie". ✨✧ Andrzej Kurylewicz, Atilla Garay, Wanda Warska, Wojciech Karolak, & OthersJazz Jamboree 62 Vol 2 – Polish Radio Jazz Archives ... CD
Polskie Radio (Poland), 1962. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Things really took off at Poland's Jazz Jamboree in 1962 – as the festival began its fantastic 60s run of bringing together some of the hippest modernists on the planet! Forget any hoke you might think from the "jamboree" name – because instead, the event was a legendary matching of talents – one that often rivaled the hippest jazz festivals anywhere else in Europe during the decade! This second volume from 1962 features the quintet of trumpeter Andrzej Kurylewicz with Jan Wroblewski on tenor and Wojciech Karolak on piano, performing "Ancle's Dance"; the Jan Tomszewski Big Band on "Laura" and "Walking Home"; the trio of pianist Atilla Garay on "The Wind Is Blooming Over The Danube" and "Under The Mountains Of Chitero"; the sextet of pianist Vadim Sakun on "Blues"; the Jerzy Matuskiewicz Swingtet on "Jeanine"; and singer Wanda Warska with the Wojciech Karolak trio on "I'll Wind" and "Time After Time". Terry AllenLubbock (on everything) ... CD
Fate, 1978. Used ... $9.99
Fantastic sounds from Terry Allen – one of the key underground Texas talents who were helping transform the style of country music in the 70s – and one of the few who maybe never fully got his due! Terry's from the same scene as David Allen Coe, Billy Joe Shaver, and Guy Clark, but his music is much more underground than theirs – maybe only ever designed to be put forth in an intimate club setting, late in the night – where the very conversational style of Allen's songs almost make them feel like barroom musings of a cat who's seen a heck of a lot of life on this planet, but still very able to peer into the souls of those he comes across. This double-length set is Allen's masterpiece – originally issued on a small pressing back in the 70s, and very much an alt-country relic – but from a time when such a thing didn't even exist. Titles include "Cocktails For Three", "High Plains Jamboree", "Amarillo Highway", "Lubbock Woman", "Rendezvous USA", "The Girl Who Danced Oklahoma", "Truckload Of Art", and "The Pink & Black Song". Muza/Norma (Japan), 1961. Near Mint- (reissue)... $24.99
A set of early recordings by Polish jazz legend Komeda – all cut at the Jazz Jamboree festival in 1961, and featuring a variety of different groups. The strongest sides on the set features Komeda with a quartet that features tenor sax by Bernt Rosengren – really cooking with a modern edge on the tracks "An Oscar For A Devil" and "Stella By Starlight". Also noteworthy are versions of "Three Little Words" and "For Heaven's Sake" which feature guitar by Jimmy Gourley. The last track on the set is a compelling trio tune entitled "This Or This". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ SymaripSkinhead Moonstomp (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Trojan/Music On Vinyl (UK), 1969. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
There's a bunch of young British skinheads pictured on the cover – but the legendary Symarip are a group of West Indian descent, and created the kind of rocksteady grooves that really drove the London scene wild at the end of the 60s! The group were one of the first to fully rise up from British recording origins with a level to top some of the imports coming from Jamaica – and while they'll forever be known for the classic title cut of the album, they've also got a huge amount of extra greatness to offer – a raw, echoey vibe that not only sets the group apart from some of their Kingston contemporaries, but which also echoes the Two Tone generation to come! Titles include the classic "Skinhead Moonstomp" – plus "Phoenix Reggae", "These Boots Are Made For Walking", "Chicken Merry", "Skinhead Jamboree", "Try Me Best", "You're Mine", "Fung Shu", and "Stay With Him".
