Isley Brothers3 + 3 (plus bonus track) ... CD
T Neck/Legacy, 1973. New Copy ... $4.99 6.99
An amazing little album from the Isley Brothers – one in which the group manage to explore their growing love of the electric guitar, yet somehow sound even more soulful than before! The music is slinky and seductive, with a wonderful style that's never too overly funky – just laidback and flowing, with a vibe that's sometimes mellow, sometimes a bit more upbeat – but never too over the top or rocking. Titles include the group's the monster cut "That Lady" (parts 1 & 2) – a totally righteous groover, even if it has been in a million commercials over the years – and their cover of Seals & Croft's epic "Summer Breeze", which is ten times doper than the original! Other tracks include "Listen To The Music", "If You Were There", "What It Comes Down To", and "Sunshine (Go Away Today)". CD includes bonus live version of "That Lady". CD

✨✧ Isley BrothersHarvest For The World ... LP
T Neck, 1976. Sealed ... Just Sold Out!
Fantastic Isleys from the mid-70s! The record has the group dropping their heavy funk style (which was sounding a bit tired by this point), and picking up a strident soul groove that buoyed their tracks with a spiritual sound that reminds us of some of the best moments from the Brother Brother Brother album! This one includes the incredible song "Harvest For The World", one of the most anthemic soul songs of the 70s – and a monster groover that mixes message-driven vocals with some tight guitar work. Other tracks include "You Still Feel the Need", "Let Me Down Easy", and "People of Today" – and the whole album's one of the group's best from the 70s! LP, Vinyl record album
(Reissue pressing in a non-gatefold cover, still sealed with Nice Price sticker and a cutout hole.)

T Neck, 1975. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $9.99
A great mix of heavy funk and sweeter ballads from the Isley Brothers – and a record that's filled with two-part tracks that really let them stretch out and groove! The tunes have a bit more bass and keyboards than before – an approach that's even more electric than Isley funk of a few years back, and which steps out in some tightly vamping rhythms that still crackle with plenty of warmth and soul – especially on the mellower numbers, which dominate side two of the record, and really make this one worth having! Mellow tracks include "For The Love Of You (parts 1 & 2)", "Sensuality (parts 1 & 2)", and "Make Me Say It Again (parts 1 & 2)" – and funkier numbers include "Fight The Power (parts 1 & 2)", "The Heat Is On (parts 1 & 2)", and "Hope You Feel Better Love (parts 1 & 2)". ✨✧ Isley BrothersWinner Takes All ... LP
T Neck, 1979. Sealed 2LP Gatefold ... $19.99
A key album in the Isley Brothers "extended funk" mode of the 70s – a style in which the group approached nearly every tune by adding in a "part 2" in order to stretch out the groove! The style here is bass-heavy funk, but less of the sort that other groups were using at the time – because the Isleys still bring in plenty of soul to the mix, and resist popping the bass too much so that they still have plenty of space for the slinky vocals that always make their work so great. Most of the titles on the album have this extended approach, and titles include "I Wanna Be With You (parts 1 & 2)", "Liquid Love (parts 1 & 2)", "Winner Takes All", "Love Comes & Goes (parts 1 & 2)", "Let's Fall In Love (parts 1 & 2)", "Let Me In Your Life (parts 1 & 2)", "Life In The City (parts 1 & 2)", "Go For What You Know", and "Mind Over Matter (parts 1 & 2)". T Neck/Columbia, 1977. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A funky album – but one that we love best for the mellow tracks! Sure, the Isleys could wear flashy suits and play some heavy guitar – but honestly, what we really love them for here are the laidback, loving tunes they do so well. The album includes 2 of their greatest ballad tracks ever – "Voyage To Atlantis" and "Footsteps In The Dark" – plus the midtempo tune "Tell Me When You Need It Again", another great track that almost has the same power as the other two. Other tracks include "Climbin Up The Ladder", "The Pride", and "Go For Your Guns". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Isley BrothersInside You/Real Deal ... CD
T Neck/BGO (UK), 1981/1982. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Two early 80s groovers from the Isleys – on one great CD! Inside You is a strong extension of the group's funky 70s style – moving into a more compressed mode that had been taking hold of the group's style over the past few albums, giving them a smoother finish, but one that actually brought out some even more soulful feelings from their overall work. As always, we dig the mellow cuts best – especially the two part "Don't Hold Back Your Love", and the stepper "Welcome Into My Heart". Other tracks include "First Love", "Baby Hold On", and "Love Zone" and "Inside You". The Real Deal is authentic 80s grooving from the Isleys – mostly an album of upbeat, electro-grooving numbers that change up the style a bit more from their 70s funk work. But as usual for this period, they actually sound best on the ballads – clocking in with the sweet slow tune "All In My Lovers Eyes", and sounding even nicer on the anthemic "I'll Do It All For You" – a great little track with a bubbling, steppish groove. Other tracks include "The Real Deal", "Stone Cold Lover", "Are You With Me", and "Under The Influence". CD

The Isley Brothers in prime 70s mode here – hitting a warm and wonderful blend of soul and funk throughout – always delivered with that sweet talent for smooth understatement that makes them so great! The costumes on the front cover may be freaky, but the grooves are nicely restrained – and by this point in the decade, the brothers have definitely learned that their strongest suit is often their mellow one – tracks that groove, but often in more subtle ways! Titles include the massive slow jam track "Groove With You", plus "Take Me To The Next Phase (parts 1 & 2)", "Love Fever (parts 1 & 2)", "Fun & Games", "Ain't Givin Up No Love", and "Coolin Me Out (parts 1 & 2)". Atlantic, 1974. Used ... $4.99
AWB's first for Atlantic – and a nice slice of funk that proves that they can mix it up with the best groups of the 70s! The record's got plenty of sweet electric keyboards over smooth funky basslines – and as the years go by, the band's white boy vocals don't sound nearly as bad as we remember them. And besides, when they play their instruments so nicely – how can you hold the singing against them? Includes the killer classic "Pick Up The Pieces", sampled more times than we can remember – plus "You Got It", "Just Wanna Love You Tonight", "Person To Person", and a nice remake of the Isley Brothers' "Work To Do". The CD includes the bonus track "Pick Up The Pieces (the Atlantic Family Live At Montreux). CD

Peven EverettSincerely Yours ... CD
Studio Confession, 2008. New Copy ... $6.99 13.99
One of the most sweetly soulful sets we've ever heard from Peven Everett – a laidback session that's a nice change from some of his more upbeat grooves – and one that places him solidly in the territory of mid 70s Isley Brothers or Marvin Gaye! Tunes are simple, but have a real sense of warmth – thanks to Peven's mellow vocals and keyboard work, and occasional jazzy touches that shade things in with a nice sense of color. There's beats at the bottom of most tunes, but they never move too fast – more in a mellow or midtempo mode that's totally great – and a whole new side of Peven's mighty talents. Titles include "Pressure", "First Choice", "Always Love You", "Enough Of You", "I Know When I Met", "Soul Music", "Do It Again For The Last Time", "I Ain't Goin Nowhere", and "Last Night". CD

T Neck/Survival Research (Italy), 1969. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99
A fantastic bit of tripped-out rock from the end of the 60s – issued on the Isley Brothers' own record label, and featuring a group who previously recorded as the Soul Survivors blue-eyed combo from Philly! There's plenty of fuzz going on here – raw guitar that shows plenty of Hendrix influence – but the group also still seem to hold onto some of their crossover soul roots too, and the vocals are very tight and catchy – in ways that almost make this a set of psychedelic soul, of the sort that was coming out of Detroit at the time! The Isleys produced the record – and titles include "Going Down", "Purple Dog", "It's Yesterday", "The Quiz", "Circling", "People", and "Sojourn". LP, Vinyl record album

Lewis TaylorLewis Taylor ... LP
Island/Be With (UK), 1996. New Copy 2LP ... $36.99 About August 30, 2021
A hell of a classic from UK singer Lewis Taylor – one of the best blue-eyed soul albums recorded in the 90s, and a record that's still years ahead of its time! In a stretch when so many others were putting out fake soul – or breathing heavily on downtempo records – Taylor found a way to really deliver something new and unique, yet also come across with the classic mellow flow of 70s work by artists like Marvin Gaye or The Isley Brothers! Taylor's vocal delivery here owes plenty to both, but the production is very crisp and individual – handled by Lewis himself, and in a spare mix of modes that's quite different than some of the more stock "beats and keys" modes that would take over underground soul in the next decade! Instead, there's this great range of subtle tones and textures that work beautifully alongside Taylor's sublime vocals – all to suit some beautifully-written tunes too. Titles include "Lucky", "Track", "Betterlove", "Right", "Spirit", "Bittersweet", and "Whoever". LP, Vinyl record album

Northern soul from the source – over two dozen 60s soul stompers from Motown Records – most of them the kind of underground grooves that have always been prized on the Northern scene! The work here moves past obvious Motown hits, and really shows the kind of hard-burning stormers that set fire to the British all night dance scene in the 60s – music that moved the mods, then continued to help redefine our understanding of soul for decades to come! The set's a treasure trove of gems – some of which would cost you a pretty penny as original singles – and titles include "For The Love Of Mike" by Patrice Holloway, "You Can Do It" by Kim Weston, "Crying In The Night" by The Monitors, "Baby Come Home To Me" by Shorty Long, "Sure Is A Lotta Woman" by The Isley Brothers, "You're Gonna Love My Baby" by Barbara McNair, "I've Been Blessed" by Bobby Taylor, "Look What You Done Boy" by The Lollipops, "I Miss You Baby" by Marv Johnson, and "Keep On Loving Me" by Frances Nero. CBS, 1982. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A killer late set by Bloodstone – one that holds on to all the excellent harmonies they brought to their 70s work, but which pushes their groove forward in a whole new direction! There's a warm modern glow to the set – one that works perfectly with the vocals – and the quintet still have a hell of a way with a ballad – singing in that slow-tripping style that was never too overly emotive, yet could pack a hell of a punch back in the day – especially in the wee hours! The tunes here are longer than before, and inflected by some rich arrangements by both the Isley Brothers and McKinley Jackson – and the set's got an Isleys-like approach by putting all the ballads on one side, and the groovers on another. These groovers really hold onto the harmonies wonderfully – making for a great follow-up to the ballads – and titles include the sublime smooth stepping track "We Go A Long Way Back", plus "Go On & Cry", "How Does It Feel", "Nite Time Fun", "My Love Grows Stronger", and "My Kind Of Woman". Joss goes way out with her strong, deeply 70s influenced vocal histrionics on a batch of tunes that stretch all over the songwriting landscape. She tackles tunes by as far-reaching a group of writers as Harlan Howard on the opening "The Chokin' Kind" to the Isley Brothers' "For The Love Of You" and many points in between, with the same extroverted approach.
