✨✧ HyldonNa Rua, Na Chuva, Na Fazenda (180 gram presssing) ... LP
Polydor/Polysom (Brazil), 1975. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Fantastic work by this underdiscovered Brazilian talent! Hyldon was part of the 70s Brazilian soul and funk generation that included Tim Maia, Cassiano, and Toni Tornado – but he'd also absorbed a lot of the singer/songwriter influences of Caetano Veloso, who's laidback mid 70s style will come to mind on a number of these tracks! Hyldon's got a warmly intimate voice – set here in arrangements by Roberto Bertrami that have a bit of jazz and electric sparkle, kind of in a mellow soul mode that really works great for Hyldon's style. Titles include "Vida Engracada", "As Dores Do Mundo", "Sabadao E Domingo", "Meu Patua", "Balancao Do Violao", and "Na Sombra De Uma Arvore". LP, Vinyl record album

Odair JoseO Filho De Jose E Maria (180 gram pressing) ... LP
RCA/Polysom (Brazil), 1977. New Copy (reissue)... $32.99
A sweet 70s set from Odair Jose – a record that's got a nicely laidback blend of keyboards, guitars, and Odair's excellent vocals – all put together with help from some of the most soulful talents on the scene at the time! The record features keyboards from Jose Roberto Bertrami, guitars from Jaime Alem and Hyldon, drums from Ivan Mamao Conti, and Fender Rhodes from Robson Jorge – all working together in a blend of the jazziness of Azymuth with some of the more soulful elements that you'd hear from some of Hyldon's music. There's a bit of processing on Odair's vocals at a few points, in a very cool way – and titles include "O Casamento", "Que Loucura", "O Sonho Terminou", "Nunca Mais", "Fora Da Realidade", "Nao Me Venda Grilos", and "So Pra Mim Pra Mais Ninguem". ✨✧ Friends From RioFriends From Rio 2014 ... CD
Far Out (UK), 2014. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the best records in years from the mighty Far Out label – and a set that really takes the imprint back to its roots! The name of the record echoes the first Friends From Rio session that launched Far Out almost two decades ago – and like that classic, this one's a collaborative effort between a range of Brazilian and British talents – served up in a style that bridges the gap between older bossa and more contemporary modes! The music is perfect from the ground up – not a cheesy bossa remix project, but a true blend of all the best elements, served up in a rich new style. The project gets key Incognito-style help from Daniel "Venom" Maunick, and a real Azymuth pedigree from Alex Malheiros – and the whole thing features a great range of different singers, including Hyldon, Robertinho Silva, Aleh Ferreira, Ivan Matheus, Denise Pinaud, Sabrina Malheiros, and Carlos Dafe – each wrapped up in a sweet blend of Fender Rhodes, organ, riffing guitar, and sweet jazzy horns. Titles include "So Resta A Porta Se Abrir", "Mas Que Nada", "Garota", "Aguai", "Casino Bangu", "Batucada Bidu", "Anthemia", "Leita De Pedra", and "Mulher Malagueta". CD
