2 albums worth of material by the br
others Ted and Dick Nash – razor-sharp horn players recorded here in 50s LA modern modes – reissued on CD for the first time ever! The first 12 tracks on the set are for a rare 1954 album issued by Starlite Records – best known as the initial home of the Hi-Los, whose arranger Frank Comstock works on all the Nash recordings for the date! Ted plays alto, tenor, flute, and piccolo – the latter two with a feel that's quite similar to Bud Shank – and Dick plays trombone, with support from a group that includes Tony Rizzin on guitar, Morty Corb on bass, and Alvin Stoller on drums. Tracks are all original numbers by Comstock – quite well-written with lots of playful changes – and titles include "Whim Wham", "
South Of Brazil", "Frantica", "Nightfall", "The Grabber", "Laurel", and "Footloose". Next up are 12 more tracks from the 1955 album The Br
others Nash – originally issued on Liberty Records, and featuring the pair working again with guitarist Rizzi, plus Jimmy Rowles on piano,
Harry Babasin on bass, and Roy Harte on drums. Tracks are mostly familiar numbers, but inventively arranged by Frank Comstock and
others – and Ted really increases his range of reed work here, blowing on tenor, alto, and soprano sax – plus flute, alto flute, piccolo, clarinet, and bass clarinet! Titles include "Juntos", "We'll Be Together Again", "I Remember You", "Cuban Veranda", "You Are Too Beautiful", "For Heaven's Sake", and "The Nearness Of You".
