Gregory IsaacsCool Ruler – The Definitive Collection ... CD
Trojan (UK), 1970s/1980s. Used 2 CDs ... $9.99
Not an expanded version of the album of the same name, but rather a career spanning retrospective of the smooth, but lonely lover ruling coolly! Perhaps the greatest of the purveyors of lover's rock, who cut a number of wonderful roots and sufferer's numbers too, Isaacs also delivered the goods through the dancehall era into the 80s, and has continued to cut soulful, intimate reggae sides even up through the 90s! Loads of wonderful easy rockin' late night Jamaican vibes resound from these 2 discs, jam packed with 41 of Isaac's best cuts, including "Dancing Floor", "Look Before You Leap", "Loving Pauper", "All I Have Is Love", "Beautiful Africa", "Jailer Jailer (Bring Me My Water)", "Promised Land", "Dreadlocks Love Affair", "Thief A Man", "John Public", "My Time (12" mix)", "Get Ready", "Soon Forward", "Night Nurse (10" mix)", "Cool Down The Pace", "Love Me With Feeling (12" mix)", "Tenement Yard" and "Private Beach Party". Gregory IsaacsMr Isaacs ... LP
Earthquake/17 North Parade, 1977. New Copy (reissue)... $16.99 17.99
Fantastic early material from Gregory Isaacs – captured here early in his career, and working in a deep roots reggae mode – recording at Channel One with great direction from Ossie Hibbert! The set's laidback and righteous, in ways that let all the soulful qualities of Isaac's vocals still come through – but in a very different way than on his later hits! The rhythms are provided by the Revolutionaries – a perfect choice for the record – and titles include "Slave Master", "Story Book Children", "Get Ready", "Set The Captives Free", "Hand Cuff", "Storm", "Sacrifice", and "Smile". Mango, 1981. Very Good- ... $11.99
Compilation of tracks produced by Sly & Robbie just as they were getting the Taxi gang started and stepping out as producers in their own right, at the dawn of the Dancehall era. They've gathered some amazing vocalists together, including Gregory Isaacs, Junior Delgado, the Wailing Souls & Dennis Brown. 12 tracks in all, including the Tamlins version of "Smiling Faces Sometimes", Dennis Brown "Sitting 7 Watching", Sly's "Hot Your Hot", Wailing Souls "Old Broom" Gregory Isaacs "Oh What A Feeling" & Jr. Delgado's "Merry Go Round". ✨✧ VariousRockers – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Island (UK), 1978. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
The great soundtrack to Rockers – an important film from the Jamaican scene of the 70s, and one that offered up some really fantastic footage right from the streets of Kingston! The film was issued after the big fame of The Harder They Come – and while it never reached the heights of the Jimmy Cliff classic, it's maybe even more interesting overall – a lot less polished, in a way that also comes through in the music – which echoes the nature of the film with some of the sense of accident and collaboration that characterized the ever-fervent scene of the time. Titles include "We A Rockers" by Inner Circle, "Money Worries" by The Maytones, "Police & Thieves" by Junior Murvin, "Book Of Rules" by The Heptones, "Stepping Razor" by Peter Tosh, "Tenement Yard" by Jacob Miller, "Fade Away" by Junior Byles, "Rockers" by Bunny Wailer, "Slave Master" by Gregory Isaacs, "Dread Lion" by The Upsetters, "Graduation In Zion" by Kiddus I, "Jah No Dead" by Burning Spear, "Satta Massagana" by Third World, and "Natty Take Over" by Justin Hinds & The Dominos. LP, Vinyl record album
(Original UK Island pressing, including the printed round corner inner sleeve.)

VariousStep Forward Youth – Roots Masters From The Punky Reggae Party ... LP
VP, Mid 70s. New Copy ... $16.99 17.98
A fantastic selection of tracks from a time when reggae and punk were really crossing over on the UK scene – the earliest years of the punk rock movement, when bands like The Clash, Slits, and others were bringing the sounds of Jamaica into much greater mainstream circulation! The cuts here aren't reggae punk – or punked-up reggae – but are instead the core tracks that influenced the late 70s UK generation – mostly roots reggae numbers from a few years before, whose politics and production really struck a chord with disenchanted youth in England! Don't worry about the package being too commercial, or too familiar – as the set list is a nicely deep dig, with all the right tracks – titles that include "Rebel" by Barry Ford Band, "The Barber Feel It" by Dr Alimantado & Jah Stitch, "Turn The Heater On" by Keith Hudson, "Pablo Meets Mr Bassie" by Agustus Pablo, "Jah Is I Guiding Star" by Tappa Zukie, "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" by Michael Rose, "Cool Out Son" by Junior Murvin, "Roast Fish & Cornbread" by Lee Perry, "Mr Cop" by Gregory Isaacs, "Two Sevens Clash" by Culture, and "Heavy Manners" by Prince Far-I.
