Brij Bhushan Kabra is handling his guitar on the cover in a very unusual way – and he gets some very unusual sounds out of the instrument too – on an incredible record that's almost a bridge between 60s Indian sitar recordings and some of the acoustic American experiments on Takoma Records! Kabra's handling of the instrument allows for all sorts of unusual inflections – sound shaping as he plucks these notes with a speed that increases greatly as the set moves on – often with the same sort of long-spun format as ragas on sitar, including some work at points on tablas next to the guitar. Titles include "Raaga Bihag", "Raaga Joygiya", and "Raaga Bhaiarvi". LP, Vinyl record album

Magic Of Music – Guitar & Tabla ... LP GramophoneCompanyOfIndia (UK), 1982. New Copy (reissue)...

A very cool record, and exactly what's promised in the title – this beautiful mixing of guitar and tabla – the latter handled by Zakir Hussain, the former by the great Brij Bhushan Kabra! Tracks are nice and long, and are a variant of the 60s raga recordings that were captured often by EMI – but with a different flavor, given the use of the guitar – which is adapted here by Kabra, with use of some bronze strings – which really deepens the sound of the instrument and widens its color range! Side one features "Raga Shud Kalyan", which has some work on jhala – and side two features "Raga Kafi". LP, Vinyl record album

Call Of The Valley ... LP GramophoneCompanyOfIndia (UK), 1968. New Copy (reissue)...

An amazing setting for the groundbreaking guitar work of Brij Bhushan Kabra – set up here in a trio with Hariprasad Chaurasia on flute and Shivkumar Sharma on santoor! We already love Kabra's guitar on its own – played in a sitar-like way with all these amazing inflections and soundshaping moments – and it sounds even more wonderful here next to the cascading chimes of the santoor – dulcimer-like instrument that really brings an otherwordly quality to the record. The flute has a way of soaring out on its own, often with weird and unusual tones – and the group also features work on tablas on both sides too – on long tracks that include "Ahir Bhairav", "Nat Bhairav", "Piloo", "Bhoop", and "Pahadi". LP, Vinyl record album
