✨✧ Gerry Mulligan & Ben WebsterGerry Mulligan Meets Ben Webster (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Verve, 1959. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of our favorite-ever team up classics on Verve Records – a completely sublime meeting between aging tenor genius Ben Webster and younger baritone magician Gerry Mulligan – both players here who really seem to rise up even more than usual in the company of each other! The set's maybe one of Ben's best for Verve during this stretch – performed with a stunning tone, and that soulful, sensitive swing that he virtually invented – which also seems to bring out some different qualities in Mulligan's horn, maybe in part because there's also great piano work in the group from Jimmy Rowles, who's a subtle but key part of the session. Other players include Leroy Vinnegar on bass and Mel Lewis on drums – and titles include "Tell Me When", "Go Home", "The Cat Walk", "Sunday", "Chelsea Bridge", and "Who's Got Rhythm". LP, Vinyl record album
(Part of the Verve Acoustic Sounds series – heavy cover and vinyl!)
