Two 60s sex comedy soundtracks – back to back on a single CD! George Duning
is at his grooviest on the music for Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed – a great Dean Martin film from 1963, scored by Duning
with a mixture of jazzy modes – often with woodwinds that are surprisingly expressive, from comedic dips and turns, to passages that are slightly sexy, or more emotive. Most tracks are relatively short – but work together well over the course of the two dozen numbers included in the package – all very visual in structure and sound! Next up is Wives & Lovers – scored by the lesser-known Lyn Murray
, with an equally great use of jazzy elements – especially woodwinds, played by a lineup that includes a number of great west coast saxophone talents! The tunes have no trouble mixing a bit of sentiment with a touch of class, using the jazzier elements in a really great maturation of 50s west coast cool – one that still works well, even when a bit of strings come into the mix. There's also some great piano lines played by Jimmy Rowles – and the CD features 21 tracks from the film, including some unusual bonus material!
