✨✧ Ana MazzottiAna Mazzotti (1977) ... LP
GTA/Far Out (UK), 1977. New Copy ... $22.99 26.99
One of two incredible albums from the lovely Ana Mazzotti – a 70s Brazilian singer who could effortlessly blend fusion and soul, Brazilian rhythms and funk – working here with plenty of help from Jose Roberto Bertrami of Azymuth! In fact, the record has a vibe that's a lot like the best early Azymuth music, although with vocals – hip rhythms, unusual inflections, and a great electrified version of older Brazilian styles – all topped by the warm, wonderful vocals of Mazzotti! The whole thing's wonderful – and titles include an amazing version of "Sou", a vocal take on the Azymuth tune "Agora Ou Nunca Mais", and the cuts "Em Acalanto", "Eta Samba Bom", "Bairro Negro", and the funky classic "Roda Mundo". Great great great! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ DJ MannySignals In My Head (pink vinyl pressing) ... LP
Planet Mu, 2021. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
DJ Manny's got roots in the Chicago footwork scene, but his sound here is much more soul-based overall – nicely spare, but surprisingly tuneful – served up with a mixture of instrumental moments, sung passages, and a few hip hop lines as well – all at a level that shows just how much Manny has grown as an artist in the past few years! Some of the best numbers have a really compelling, cascading sense of rhythm – but we also love the way those tracks are balanced out by sweeter moments, too – all to make a very well-crafted full length set, with titles that include "Club GTA", "Wants My Body", "Havin Fun", "Smoke N Fade Away", "Signals In My Head", "At First Site", "Never Was Ah Hoe", and "You All I Need". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Chairmen Of The BoardGive Me Just A Little More Time ... LP
Invictus, 1970. Good ... Just Sold Out!
A landmark album of 70s soul – and perhaps the most enduring full LP by this enigmatic harmony group! The vocals of General Crook alone are more than enough to win us over – some of the most distinct lead soul singing we've ever heard, pitched perfectly with the backings of the rest of the group. But the overall package is even better – righteous arrangements that really show the new Holland-Dozier-Holland energy for the 70s – more of a punch than most of Motown a few years before, and open to some headier elements that only serve to do even more with the vocals! Titles include the group's huge hit "Give Me Just A Little More Time", a totally compelling number with a scattershot beat, and some wonderful lead vocals from the always-great General Johnson – plus, their cover of Clarence Carter's "Patches" – which was a big single for them – and the tracks "Bravo Hooray", "Since The Days Of Pigtails & Fairytales", "Come Together", "You've Got Me Dangling on a String" and "Tricked & Trapped". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has surface and edge wear, clear tape on the spine, and a name in pen. Labels have a name in pen.)
