✨✧ VariousFast Jivin Class Cutters High On Booze – Spellbound Cavemen & Mad Scientists From The Vault Of Lux & Ivy ... CD
Righteous (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy 2CD ... $12.99
Those crazy Cramps are at it again – serving up an insane array of rare 45s with a really mad mix of styles – the kind of sounds that you might hear if you fell asleep and woke up in a world of b-movies and 60s exploitation flicks! The styles are hard to peg – you might almost say "The Cramps" – and give enough of a hint – and these are all the real deal – the kind of weird and wonderful 7" singles that were recorded by the thousands back when studios were cheap, pressing plants did heavy business, and every local scene seemed to have some completely creative combos and producers. The package features 42 tracks in all – and titles include "Spunky Onions" by Billy Davis & The Legends, "Tomahawk" by Tom Brown & The Tom Toms, "Mr Custer Stomp" by The Scouts, "Sleeping In A Car" by Tyrone Bracken, "Yabba Dabba Doo" by Frankie Davidson, "Like Spellbound" by Tarantulas, "Kan Gu Wa" by The Scholars, "The Ghost Hop" by Surfmen, "Space Monkey" by Lisa Anders & The Victory Five, "Cerveza" by Boots Brown, "Shot Rod" by Conny & The Bellhops, and "Upturn" by Eddie Smith & The Hornets. ✨✧ Keely SmithKeely Sings Sinatra ... CD
Concord, 1991. Used ... Out Of Stock
Keely Smith steps out at a more dynamic level than most of her solo recordings we remember from the old days – doing a pretty great job of here of paying tribute to Frank Sinatra during the height of his years at Capitol Records! The backings are lively and swinging – handled by the Frankie Capp Orchestra with a blend of strings and jazz that's right at home with the older Sinatra backings by Nelson Riddle or Billy May. But nicely, Keely doesn't just copy the modes of the old days – and instead, takes these tunes at her own level – swinging them a bit differently than Frank, but still with his classic sense of power and punch! The CD features a great introduction by Frank Sinatra Jr, and a whopping 20 titles in all – with tunes that include "Angel Eyes", "Come Rain Or Come Shine", "I've Got A Crush On You", "Night & Day", "South Of The Border", "Without A Song", "All The Way", and "I've Got You Under My Skin". VariousMainstream Soul Survey – Gonna Have A Good Time ... CD
P-Vine (Japan), Mid 70s. New Copy ... $22.99
Heavy funk and soaring soul from the Mainstream Records family of the mid 70s – a rare batch of tracks that were only ever issued as singles by the label, and by the smaller Brown Dog and IX Chains imprints! Most of the cuts here are right from the middle of the 70s – and are a mix of small combo grooving and some fuller, Philly-styled backings – all in support of a range of great singers who often bring some deeper soul vocals into the mix. Most of the cuts here have never been reissued before, and the package is a whopping 17 track look at this under-acknowledged side of the Mainstream Records story – with rare tracks that include "Let The People Talk" by Steptones, "Seven Day Lover" by Raymond Smith, "Be Here In The Morning" by 2nd Verse, "I'm Gonna Get You" by Frankie Floyd, "Let The Music Play" by JG Lewis, "Gonna Have A Good Time" by Crystal Image, "You Are The Spice Of My Life" by Nia Johnson, "Wind Up Toy" by Zebra, "These Memories" by Almeta Lattimore, "Super Guy Flying High" by The Last Crusade, "Get Down Get Down" by South Side Coalition, "You've Got A Lot To Give" by Chocolate Syrup, "You're A Friend Of Mine" by Words Of Wisdom, and "If You Wanna Party" by Spectrum.
