One of the greatest records ever from Frankie Laine
– a strongly jazz-based session, and one that really makes incredible use of Laine
's powerful voice! The group here is led by trumpeter Buck Clayton
– who's also at a bit of a high point in his career, and able to give Laine
this warm, swinging groove that's quite different from both the dramatic pop of his early years, and the western-themed numbers of later – a rock-solid backing from which Frankie
can really take off and soar! We're huge fans of Laine
's big hits, but we especially love him here – and the backings also feature trombones from JJ Johnson and Kai Winding, and tenor from Budd Johnson too. Titles include "You Can Depend On Me", "That Old Feeling", "If You Were Mine", "Sposin", "Stars Fell On Alabama", "Until The Real Thing Comes Along", and "Baby Baby All The Time".
