Delaney & Bonnie & FriendsOn Tour With Eric Clapton ... LP
Atco, 1970. Near Mint- ... $13.99
A killer set of southern rock – even if the whole thing was recorded in London, while the group was on tour with Eric Clapton! Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett are at the height of their powers here – really reworking rootsy southern elements into the kind of sharp-edged 70s sound that made them such an important part of the scene at the time – even though they never went as mainstream to get the kind of crossover fame as some of their contemporaries! But it's that true-to-roots quality that really keeps things great here – as they work with famous help from Eric Clapton and Dave Mason on guitars – alongside sounds by southern stalwarts who include Bobby Whitlock on organ, Jim Price on trumpet, Bobby Keys on saxes, and Jim Gordon on drums. Titles include "Things Get Better", "Little Richard Medley", "Coming Home", "That's What My Man Is For", and "I Don't Want To Discuss It". LP, Vinyl record album
(Yellow label stereo pressing. Cover has light aging down the spine and a bit of pen.)

BandLast Waltz ... LP
Warner, 1978. Very Good+ 3LP ... $69.99
One of the most iconic rock and roll shows of all time – the late 70s farewell to The Band – and quite famously, much more final concert by an esteemed band, it's actually a rock, pop, folk, blues and soul summit that features The Band as the house band. This landmark document of the event has always been one of rock's more opulent releases – with appearances by Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Dr. John, The Staples and more. Martha VelezFiends & Angels/Escape From Babylon ... CD
Warner/Wounded Bird, 1969/1976. New Copy ... $11.99 14.99
Two classic albums from Martha Velez – back to back in a single set! Fiends & Angels features badass work from Martha Velez – a rock singer at the core, but one with some plenty soulful touches! The album's a UK effort with help from a host of top-shelf talents at the time – but the groove is pretty gritty, and almost has that key rock/funk crossover mode that female singers were hitting in the US – a somewhat colorblind groove that often worked better for a singer like Velez than it did for male vocalists trying for a similar groove. Drums are nice and heavy on some cuts, and the album sports organ from Brian Auger, guitar from Eric Clapton, and heavy bass from Jack Bruce. Titles include "Swamp Man", "I'm Gonna Leave You", "Drive Me Daddy", "Feel So Bad", "Tell Mama", "Very Good Fandango", "A Fool For You", and "Come Here Sweet Man". On Escape From Babylon, Martha Velez gets some heavy help from Bob Marley – who produced the album with a bit of extra help from Lee Perry! The set's a nice mix of Martha's soulfully-styled vocals and Marley's Kingston rhythms – a blend that has similar appeal to some of Serge Gainsbourg's reggae-related projects, but in a slightly different style overall – almost more Marley-like in the end, with Bob pushing Martha into his side of the musical spectrum, instead of the other way around. Backing vocals are by the I-Three – and titles include "Wild Bird", "Money Man", "Happiness", "Get Up Stand Up", "Disco Night", and "Come On In". CD

✨✧ Plastic Ono BandLive Peace In Toronto (Original Master Recording – Gold CD pressing) ... CD
Capitol, 1969. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Live Peace in Toronto from John & Yoko – not the sprawling art rock proto noise collective that would record a little later, but a small group featuring Eric Clapton on guitar, Klaus Voorman on bass and Alan White on drums – who surprised the audience at the Toronto Rock & Roll Revival festival! The album is most famous for the iconic "Give Peace A Chance" sing-a-long, but it includes some raucous covers, some then new Lennon originals, some wild Yoko vocals, and some and all around good natured vibes. Other titles include "Money", "Blue Suede Shoes", "Yer Blues", "Cold Turkey". Side two has the full on Yoko extreme art noise, with "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking For Her Hand In The Snow)" and "John, John (Let's Hope For Peace)". CD

✨✧ Dr JohnSun, Moon, & Herbs (50th anniversary deluxe 3LP edition) (2021 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Atco, 1971. New Copy 3LP (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Dr John at the height of his powers – able to evoke his New Orleans roots, while reaching out to new currents of funk and soul – and opening the door to some famous guests too! A few years before, the Dr John persona of Mac Rebennack was something new – but by this early 70s point, the character had taken over completely – with a sense of mystical funky energy that really comes through on the set! And even though the record sports guest appearances from Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, PP Arnold, Graham Bond, and Doris Troy – it's clear that the man himself is always at the lead – creating his own sort of special magic on tunes that include "Craney Crow", "Black John The Conqueror", "Zu Zu Mamou", and "Pots On Fiyo", "Where Ya At Mule", and "Familiar Reality". Amazing 3LP set – with two full records of mostly unissued work – titles that include "Free From The Beast (take 1)", "Headin A Little Closer To My Home (take 2)", "Jungle (take 2 inst)", "Fish Dance (inst)", "Catfish Soiree Medley", "Where Ya At Mule (alt)", "Numerology (inst)", "Burning", and "Trip City (edit of takes 4 & 7)". LP, Vinyl record album
(50th Anniversary Expanded Edition – includes 2LPs worth of previously unreleased material!)
