A really unique side of the talents of PJ Proby – a singer who's forgotten by most these days, but who had a hell of a vocal range when he was making records back in the 60s! That range really comes through here, in a set of tracks that offer up an unheard and almost unknown side of Proby's career – a set of recordings that were done as demo tracks for Elvis Presley – full recordings of songs that were brought before the king, all with PJ himself handling the vocals, in a mode that's a nice reworking of the style of Elvis! Presley had a wish to hear all songs coming his way in a near-finished form – so these tracks are way more than just rough songwriting demos, with full instrumentation, and performances by Proby that easily rival some of his own records from the time. Some folks know her only as the woman who gave the world "Hound Dog", which Elvis Presley took to great early fame – but Big Mama Thornton's a hell of an artist who hardly needs to be linked to anyone else as a measure of her greatness!
